the last dance/an exquisite death/the end of human becoming

the end of an era
welcome to the last episode of season four of human becoming. this episode is a kind of recap of the previous four seasons and the journey that we've gone on together. it is the last episode of 2022 (at least, it was recorded in 2022).and it is an invocation of change, as we move into the fifth season of the podcast and the mysteries that it holds.blessed 2023, sweet magician.

no more bandaid solutions: why we need nothing less than a (r)evolution of human consciousness
ever get tired of bandaid solutions? watching humans living under capitalism is like watching someone slowly get stabbed and putting little bandaids over the wounds. at a point you just want to scream: "HOW ABOUT WE STOP THIS GUY FROM GETTING CUT?!"but changing the systems and structures that allow for this constant cutting is not enough if we don't transform the underlying level of consciousness that allows for a world to be built that is #deathbyathousandcuts.today's episode is a long and windy road, it feels like two friends sitting in the desert and talking about the fall of capitalism under a romantic sky. it rambles and goes in circles and I say "what was I saying?" many times. I tell stories from my younger days as an activist coming of age during the Fallist movements and how learning about consciousness has changed my strategy for enacting change on planet earth.the key takeaway? get outside. speak to your neighbor, speak to a stranger, speak to your lover. create connections. build community. know that you can do consciousness-raising work anywhere, at anytime, and you can start exactly where you are. right now.yours in Love.

a letter to my next lover
this episode is all about love. it is about readiness, and how I yearn for a love that is ready to meet me on the bridge (listen on if you want to understand what that means!). may this episode find you when you are ready to receive it.

honouring love's ending
Love's ending is painful. Whether it's a friendship, a romantic relationship, a familial tie - and whether love ends through a physical or spiritual/psychological/energetic death, it's fucking painful. We don't have a lot of rituals and ceremonies in this society to honour the ending of Love - to honour our grief, our sadness, our pain, our anger, our confusion, our frustration. Our ceremonies and rituals become vilifying the other, playing "who will win the breakup" or "move on" first, or disassociating from the deep grief that we're feeling. This episode is part ceremony - part ritual - part podcast. It is filled with tears and sobs and snotty sounds. It is an honouring of Love's beginning, middle and ending, and an exploration of how I am meeting the ending of a particularly beloved connection.May Love be with you, always.

am I failure? and other questions I ask myself at night
This episode is all about feeling like a failure. I feel like a failure very often, despite how much or how little I judge myself as doing, and I've come to realize that this is just another annoying side effect of growing up under capitalism. Oh well. In this episode, I speak about how I relate to this voice in my head, how it shows up NO MATTER what, and how ultimately I think I want to recognize that this voice will show up every once in a while, and it... doesn't have to mean anything at all. Enjoy.

the chaos of the creative path, and why showing up for our practices matters
I procrastinated SO much around the creation and uploading of this episode (very fitting, given the subject matter) but here it is. Sometimes, I don't want to show up for my practices (my spiritual practices, my creative artistic practices, my self-care practices). We become what we practice, and we are always practicing SOMETHING. In this episode, I speak about what it's like to show up for our practices in a devotional way even when we don't really feel like it or are feeling decidedly avoidant in connection to them, and how this can create such beautiful creative openings in our lives. We are often taught that brilliance is something that shows up as a rare, unexpected brush stroke, something that is either innate in us or lacking in us. There are fewer cultural stories celebrating the magic of consistent, devotional practice - the showing up that makes the blooming of creative genius possible. This episode is an ode to this magic.

the path of desire
Desire is God's way of communicating their will for us. In this episode, I speak about what that means, wax lyrical about the divinity of our desires and name the systems of oppression that actively benefit from and DEVOTE energy towards removing us from our desires. Desire brings (r)evolution, desire brings change, and if we want to change the conditions of our lives and our culture - we must begin by reclaiming our sacred knowledge of what we want.

sacred contrast
Hi, cutie! Human Becoming turns two and we're celebrating by speaking about my love of Jesus, how much my life has changed in the past few years, my love of suffering/contrast and all that is possible for us as human beings. Enjoy!

the grief of loving men
I'm grieving. In this episode, I open my heart and my mouth to share some of that grief with you. I speak about my most recent breakup, how fucking HARD and infuriating it is to love men under the conditions of patriarchy, and the deep importance of all of us committing to the work of love at this moment in earth's history.

on sacred rage, atoms, and de-gendering the divine feminine and masculine
This episode is a WILD ride. I come in hot and angry, allowing my rage to move through me and feeling the medicine/wisdom/teaching that this rage has to offer. I speak about the dual wave-particle nature of atomic particles, the feminine path of consciousness and what it looks like to think about the energetic masculine and feminine in a de-gendered framework. These are some of the fun things that bounce around in my head and keep me up at night - enjoy my imperfect sense-making process.

why tf are we in relationships?
Join me in my existential musings on WHY THE FUCK we are even in relationships with other human beings (and also my vision for how we can navigate connection and intimacy and a new culture of relationships that moves us more deeply into love).

money is cool and weird and magic is real
Money is cool... and weird. I opened the doors of my business this January and since then I have received a LOT more money than I was expecting or thought possible. In this episode, I talk about where that has been hard, confronting, and joyful, and what having access to this money has allowed me to create and experience. I received all of this money through the use of magic - and this episode is also a celebration of that fact. Magic is real. Magic is real. Magic is real. I speak a little bit about how our awakening to and understanding of magic is part of what it means to become human at this time and I share my delight in being able to share that magic with you.

where I've been
Hi there, dear human becoming. I've been out and about and down and up and feeling all the things and questioning all the things and experiencing all the things - this is a little update on some of the beautiful chaos that I, Tumi, am moving through in this moment.

many successful relationships end
Breakups are hard. Grief is hard. In the last month, I've had a friendship that I thought would last forever and a partnership that I hoped would last forever come to an end. Moving through this grief has been deeply humbling and opening and painful - and this episode is about how I've been moving through this process, what it's been teaching me and revealing to me about God and life and Love.

showing up messy
Ever find yourself wanting to offer something to the world and feeling like you can't because it has to be perfect? Because you need to know more? Because (insert little detail) isn't correct, or just as you'd like it? I love playing this little game with myself where I convince myself that I only get to show up, and offer myself (and my art, and my work) to the world if they're perfect - and then I just... never do the thing I want to do because it will NEVER be perfect. If you're in that space, wonderful! If there's something you've been wanting to share with the world but find yourself getting worked up over the fine print - this is the episode for you! The world needs you AND your unique contribution in all of its messiness.

money is NOT a dirty word
Money is not a bad word. But in the spiritual/activist community - it can feel like one! If you're someone who cares about the transformation of human consciousness so that we can create a more free, loving, and caring world (where we all get to be the geniuses that we are and offer our unique brilliance to the collective) - and sometimes you feel stuck around the money piece of the puzzle because it just feels so bad and icky - this episode is for you! Enjoy!

pleasure first: a leadership principle for the Aquarian age
What would it look like to live a life where you put pleasure first? Where you trust your turn on to lead you to the places that you want to go? This week's episode is all about leadership (and why we might not consider ourselves leaders/shy away from that language), what it means to step into self-leadership, and the leadership that this new age is asking us to step into. I speak about the foundation of Aquarian age leadership: erotic empowerment, embodiment, and shadow-awareness - and the principle of putting pleasure first in ALL aspects of our lives.

the human behind human becoming
Hi! I'm Tumi. This is a little episode about me, the human behind human becoming, the medicine that I bring to the world, and what the last three years (since the inciting incident! - listen to the first-ever episode of the podcast if you're curious about what I'm talking about) have taught me about healing and what it means to be in human-recovery from our current paradigm of domination and power over (plus, what it looks and feels like to reorient to pleasure, resilience, and abundance!). Also, this is an episode about the reorientation that Human Becoming is experiencing, and what I'm being moved by as I continue to create here and birth Human Becoming's work into the world. As always, enjoy!

humanizing the "enemy"
If you are into linear, focused, goal-oriented, moving-in-a-specific-trajectory podcast episodes, this is not for you. If you are into thought-provoking-squiggly-non-linear-points-connecting-through-time podcast episodes, this might be an episode for you. This episode is about the "enemy", the "villain", the victim-perpetrator-righteous observer drama triangle and moving outside of moral condemnation and into compassion for all suffering. It is about trauma, how humans who don't process their trauma will blow that trauma through other people, historical trauma (specifically around race), and a whole lot more. It's about this big, cosmic theatre that we are a part of where we get to play out many, many roles, and how deeply entangled we are with the mess that (sometimes) we would desperately like to separate ourselves from.As a personal note, I really considered not releasing this episode - but upon hearing it with fresh ears, I think it might have some value to offer you (you be the judge). Speaking about these topics brings up all my fears and shame around being 'bad', canceled, labeled a victim-blamer, not-woke-enough, not-left-enough, too woo, spiritual bypassy, etc etc. But, this is my truth - and whether it resonates with you or not, I hope that it will bring clarity to yours. The Ted talks that were mentioned:I Was Almost A School Shooter. My descent into America's neo-nazi movement and how I got out.Meeting the enemy: A feminist comes to terms with the Men's Rights movement.
