Finding Meaning in Grief
How can we move through grief and loss with more self-compassion and greater self-kindness? Even the most positive, upbeat people we know seem to be experiencing grief these days. Many of us are holding both the loss of the past year and our hope for the future simultaneously as we come to the “end-ish” (hopefully) of the COVID-19 pandemic. Maybe you lost someone to COVID or another unexpected cause, and if so, you may be feeling increasingly isolated and lonely. If you are in the midst of grieving or you want to be there for someone who has gone through a loss of their own, this episode is for you. Today, on Erin’s first solo show, she opens up about the passing of her beloved 8-month-old puppy, Stevie Nicks, and shares some of her takeaways from On Grief and Grieving and Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief. Erin talks about embracing your emotions without feeling obligated to assign an immediate meaning. The episode dives deep into the truth that loss does not always have a deeper significance. You’ll also learn how to release the temptation to compare your level of grief to someone else’s who is “greater” or “less” and instead respect that your grief is allowed to be exactly what it is. As you may have experienced, grief is not linear, and it can come in waves when you might least expect it from a timeline or trigger standpoint. Hopefully, rather than pressuring yourself to move past it, with the help of this episode you can treat yourself with grace and kindness and allow the “meaning” of your loss to unfold one day at a time. Healing will happen, but you must be kind to yourself until then. In this episode you’ll: Clarify why you have to “feel in order to heal” Accept that there isn’t always a meaning behind loss Release the pressure to grieve on a timeline because grief is not linear. Authorize yourself to really feel your grief in a non-comparative way Celebrate the smallest everyday wins as you survive another day Experience deep gratitude for what the love, person, moment, or experience you lost brought you and taught you. Tweetables: “Oftentimes, we try to find the silver lining because we’re trying to expedite healing, we’re trying to expedite the happy ending, we’re trying to land the plane safely. But the reality is, if you don’t feel it, you can’t heal it. We can’t heal what we don’t feel.” — @mrs_erin_king [0:07:26] “At a certain point, I think we do have to decide, are we going to keep treading water in these grief-stricken waters? Or at some point, are we going to try to move towards shore? Are we going to try to find a life raft? Are we going to try to change where we are so that we don’t let it overtake us, and so that we don’t drown?” — @mrs_erin_king [0:11:48] “To uncover the meaning from your particular loss, the most important thing that you can do on a tactical every day basis is to remember to celebrate the smallest win.” — @mrs_erin_king [0:17:58] “When you think about the person that you lost, when you think about the child, the parent, the friend, the sibling, the opportunity, the life that may we used to have, whatever you are lost looks like, I want us all to remember to focus on the fact that it would be worse if we never knew that person, or had that joy, had that moment.” — @mrs_erin_king [0:21:01] Links Mentioned in Today’s Episode: Erin King Erin King on Twitter On Death And Dying On Grief and Grieving Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief Grief.com David Kessler and Brené on Grief and Finding Brant Menswar Black Sheep The post Finding Meaning in Grief appeared first on erinking.com.

Build Your Invincible Brand with Melissa Agnes
How can you manage your reputation and protect your brand in an always-on, controversial online landscape? Building a brand that can withstand shocks and handle crises is more important in these tumultuous times than ever. Instead of putting out fires AFTER they happen, it helps to have a clear strategy to deal with potential curveballs so you can manage your reputation and better protect your brand. As a direct seller, network marketer, or small business entrepreneur, you might not have as much control over your brand when you’re affiliated with a larger organization, but there are still powerful steps you can take to establish an invincible empire. Today’s guest, Melissa Agnes, is the Founder and CEO of the Crisis Ready Institute and is a leading authority on crisis preparedness, reputation management, and brand protection. Her book, Crisis Ready, is not only globally recognized but also provides a framework around how to deal with the myriad of challenges when it comes to effective brand defense. In this episode, you’ll learn about the value of being proactive rather than reactive, plus some actionable steps to take, such as establishing core values and creating positive dialogue early on in any potential crisis. You’ll also learn about anticipating difficult questions, the power of being mission-driven and aligned with your purpose, and how to deal with controversy. Melissa’s methodology is a tried and trusted way of building a shock-resistant brand and helps you avoid knee-jerk reactions that might come back to bite you in the long run. In this episode you’ll: Open up more positive brand dialogue no matter what crises you are facing Establish your core values proactively before a crisis begins Distinguish between issues versus crisis- and how to define those thresholds in advance Map your stakeholder response plan one department at a time Anticipate potential misalignment between you and your brand partner or partners Prepare to respond to extremely difficult questions more effectively and powerfully Open with a purpose-filled response when your actions are under fire Strategize more thoroughly for a vast number of potential scenarios Respond to your haters more strategically and intentionally for a better outcome Deliver controversial or strong opinions in way that is prepared for inevitable backlash when you want to take a stand on current events Tweetables: “I’m a strong advocate for being proactive and getting ahead of things before they become an issue.” — @melissa_agnes [0:05:16] “Ultimately, one of the biggest failures in crisis management, in leadership and in communication is wanting to avoid the difficult questions, because they’re vulnerable and they’re uncomfortable and that’s not a space that leaders want to be in.” — @melissa_agnes [0:09:50] “Silence is a communication. Silence is a very, very strong communication. Unless, that is the communication that you want to have out, that is the narrative that you want, then choose a different way.” — @melissa_agnes [0:11:07] “When it comes to controversy, if you’re going to make a statement, then be very thoughtful and concise with your statement, and make sure it aligns with your core values, because that is always your guiding beacon.” — @melissa_agnes [0:20:44] Links Mentioned in Today’s Episode: Melissa Agnes Melissa Agnes on Twitter Melissa Agnes Crisis Ready The Secret to Successful Crisis Management in the 21st Century Crisis Ready Institute Crisis Ready Community Clubhouse Jay Baer Hug Your Haters Ten Lessons for a Post-Pandemic World Erin King The post Build Your Invincible Brand with Melissa Agnes appeared first on erinking.com.

We’re so lucky to have one of my favorite people: fitness guru, happiness facilitator, and bestselling author of the perfection detox, Petra Kolber. Over the next hour, she is going to help us tame our inner critic, live with more bravery, and unleash more of our inner joy. Highlighters, I can’t wait for you to soak this one in. Let’s go! How to stop ruminating and start reflecting (and how to determine the difference between the two) How to determine if you have perfectionist tendencies Why perfectionism is just “fear in really good shoes” How to stop comparing your life to others- especially online The first step to putting your perfectionist tendencies in the back seat How to find acceptance instead of “stoke” when it comes to where you are Reframing “microwave moments” to see them as they really are Optimize how you process how you think about what you think Replacing the “disease of enoughness” with a healthier alternative How to put “should” in its place once and for all The line between healthy and unhealthy “feedback” Deleting the negative voices of the past and leaving false narratives behind Determining whose voice is actually in your head How to stop seeing ourselves through the perfectionist’s impossible lens Identifying “bucket emptiers” vs. “bucket fillers” How to stop seeing ourselves through “broken eyes” Why it’s sometimes more important to at least LIKE yourself, than to strive to LOVE yourself Make sure you’re measuring the metrics that bring you joy How to actually figure out what it is that you DO want Take Petra’s Confidence Catalyst Course Follow Petra on Instagram Read The Perfection Detox here The post Banish Your Inner Critic appeared first on erinking.com.
