Episode 3: Bulimia Nervosa
In this episode of the Healthy Nerves podcast, we discuss bulimia with Amy Dishion. Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating followed by compensatory behavior such as vomiting. Unlike anorexia nervosa, people with bulimia tend to be in the normal range for their weight. As we will explore in this episode, Bulimia compensatory behavior is not only vomiting, it can also be fasting, diuretics or laxative use, excessive exercise, or in Amy's case, strict dieting. Amy was told for years that she did not have bulimia because she does not vomit after eating. She explains the pain she endured for years before reaching a diagnosis and finally getting the help she needed.
