Ep 22 - Projecting Demand for your skills
When looking to get into a new marketplace in which you think there will be high demand, you'll want to consider a few factors: andbull; How difficult will it be to break into the new market? andbull; How long will demand last? andbull; Will you be better off than if you were to remain in your current market? If you're going to move out of a market in which you've worked for the last five to ten years, make sure you're not going to a market that will be hot for a couple of years and then cool off. You certainly dont want to give up your highly tenured skill set in a market that may have slow to mild growth in exchange for being a much less experienced candidate in a market that may explode in growth for a couple of years, only to fizzle out because it was a trend.

Ep 21 - How to Set Yourself Up for Continuous Work as a Contractor
When you're considering taking a contract, you should also consider the following: Is the project a good fit with your skill set? How will you fit in, culturally, with the group at the hospital? How much will the position pay? What's the expense reimbursement policy? What will the travel be like? How long will it take, in travel time, to get to the client site each week? How often will you be required to travel to the client site? Will they have flexibility if its necessary for you to work from home occasionally? The answers to all of the questions above give the consultant insight into what theyre going to be dealing with during this current contract. In this podcast we cover how to assess a firm and the importance of building relationships when working as an independent contractor.

Ep 20 - 98% Of Recruiters Use LinkedIn... But Only 38% of Employees Are There
A high percentage of people have not yet adopted LinkedIn as a job search tool, and even though 38% of employees are using it, theyre not necessarily using it optimally as a social networking tool. In fact, Id venture to say that most people using it are simply creating a profile for themselves thats nothing more than a traditional randeacute;sumandeacute;.

Ep 19 - The Challenge in Starting a Health IT Contract From Home
Once you've been in the consulting field for a reasonable amount of time, you'll be faced with a client that's in a bind and wants you to start immediately. You'll scramble to adjust your schedule and make travel arrangements so that you can be on-site the very next Monday. You'll show up to the client site only to learn that theyve not assigned you a workspace, nor have they set up your system access. At this point, they will find "something" for you to do, so that you're not just sitting around. Being that they requested your presence on-site, and since you were onsite for 40 hours, theyre not going to have a problem approving your 40 hours for the week. They will do this even though you sat around, trying to stay busy the first two days, when you had no system access.
