Vagus Nerve Involvement in Metabolic Conditions
Hi everyone! Welcome to another episode of the Health Upgrade Podcast. Today, in our mini episode we are going to dig into the topic of metabolic disease and understanding of what adipose tissue is and how its dysregulation could lead to so many other problems. Metabolic disease has to do with two types of serious medical conditions which are type two diabetes and hypertension. These conditions arise in individuals with high body mass indices or BMIs, more specifically in those with a high percentages of body weight attributable to fat. Type two diabetes stresses the pancreas and forces insulin levels to rise as the body tries to push the high glucose into those cells, which then goes through the kidneys causing stress on that organ which will lead to hypertension.  We will also be discussing another important piece of this metabolic disease condition which is the autonomic nervous system and the SNS activation.  The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the fight, flight and freeze responses of our autonomic nervous system. And when this is activated in a longer period it leads to chronic sympathetic activation then anxiety, hypertension, depression, autoimmune disorders, cancer and diabetes will occur. Listen to this episode if you want to understand how you can take that next step to optimize and upgrade your health.  Rate and review before the next episode. Vagus Nerve and Immune System Overview
Hello and welcome to the Health Upgrade Podcast!  Today, we'll have a brief episode providing an overview of the fundamentals of the autonomic nervous system, the vagus nerve, vagus nerve stimulation, and their effects on the immune system. The autonomic nervous system is a network of nerves that regulates bodily functions that we don't consciously control. It consists of two branches: the sympathetic and the parasympathetic. In this discussion, we'll focus on the parasympathetic branch. When a person is free from stress and at rest, the parasympathetic branchis activated, which also means that the vagus nerve shifts into the rest, digest, relax, and restore mode. In this mode, immune cells and the nervoussystem shift away from an inflammatory or stress state and perform theircritical duties of keeping us healthy. We will also tackle on how to upregulate and enhance your parasympathetic activity. If you want to learn more about the vagus nerve and how it affects your health, let’s jump into the episode!   Rate and review before the next episode. Mitochondria And Vagus Nerve Interaction
Hi everyone! Welcome to another episode of the Health Upgrade Podcast.  Today, we'll be discussing a few essential cellular processes that are necessary to ensure optimal body and cellular function. The first one is mitochondria. Every cell in our body, except for red blood cells, contains mitochondria, which produce the energy needed for the cell to perform its functions. Dysfunctional mitochondria can lead to chronic disease. The second process we'll be discussing is the effect of the vagus nerve and vagus nerve stimulation on mitochondria. Vagus nerve stimulation helps reduce inflammation and manage reactive oxygen species within and around cells, preventing an inflammatory cascade from becoming a chronic, disease-based pathway. We'll also delve into the roles of serotonin and melatonin, which are important neurotransmitters. Serotonin is involved in mood regulation and happiness, and breaks down melatonin. Melatonin, in turn, plays a significant role in sleep, recovery, and antioxidant processes. A lack of melatonin leads to a slow increase in oxidative stress and damage inside the mitochondria, causing the cell to become inflammatory. Rate and review before the next episode. Psychedelics And The Autonomic Nervous System - LSD and DMT
Hi everyone! Welcome to another episode of the Health Upgrade Podcast. In today’s episode, we will continue talking about the effects of psychedelics mainly LSD and DMT on the body and on the autonomic nervous system. LSD is probably one of the hallucinogenic drugs that has some potential to be addictive and the autonomic nervous system is affected by LSD which can cause pupil dilation, increased blood pressure even body temperature changes. It also increases circulating cortisol levels and other things in the bloodstream like prolactin and oxytocin and epinephrine that are modulatory of the immune system. While DMT is an active compound, it's an analog of Tryptamine. This medication has the ability to increase your hearts variability, which suggests an increase in parasympathetic activation, which is the vagal tone. It also helps reduce inflammatory cytokines. We will also discuss the history of LSD and DMT along with the potential positive benefit these drugs can give in your overall health when taken minimally.    Disclaimer: we are not advocating the use of medication, but advocating the scientific study of these medications in helping those that are suffering. Because in a therapeutic sense, many of these medications can be utilized in a really, really positive way. So the more research the better, we can understand how they function and why they can have such a positive therapeutic benefit.    Rate and review before the next episode. Psychedelics And The Autonomic Nervous System Mescaline And Psilocybin
Hello everybody. Welcome back to the Health Upgrade Podcast! For today’s episode we are going to shift gears from recreational drugs that have been used in addictive ways, to different types of drugs that are called psychedelics, hallucinogens and dissociative medications. These drugs are mind altering. They literally change your brain. They don't share generally the same addiction as recreational drugs. But that doesn't mean that they're not dangerous, and that they don't have significant social and personal risks associated with them.  We're going to focus our attention primarily on two psychedelic medications which are mescaline and psilocybin. They effect within the brain and the autonomic nervous system, whether it's creating a pro-inflammatory or an anti-inflammatory effect.  Disclaimer: we are not advocating the use of medication, but advocating the scientific study of these medications in helping those that are suffering. The Neuroscience Of Drug Addiction - Part 2
Welcome to another episode of the Health Upgrade Podcast. Today's episode is a continuation of our last discussion where we were breaking down addictive drugs and types of medications. But we're now going to step into the effects of these medicines on our body, our brain and how to overcome these challenges when we become addicted to it. What happens in opioid abuse, cocaine abuse, and methamphetamine abuse is that we end up seeing a change in how neuropathology works. Where we will have an inability to control emotions, have erratic behavior and violent outburst. These things are all a function of the neuropathology that goes along disrupted neurotransmitter expression and disrupted cytokine expression which is a side effect of using these drugs. Alongside this is the destruction of the brain hypertrophy, basically a breakdown or atrophy of areas of the brain that are critical for normal function which can lead to cytotoxicity. We will also be diving into the drug withdrawal symptoms that we will experience if we quit or reduce these addictive substances. These symptoms may depend on how long our exposure to these substances and the kind of drugs we have used. We have to remember the longer we use it, the more damage it may cause. The Neuroscience Of Drug Addiction - Part 1
Hello, everybody and welcome back to the Health Upgrade Podcast! Today, we will be talking about drug addiction and how the autonomic nervous system is affected by the use of opioid medication and drugs. These drugs are mainly heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamines. Becoming addicted to these medications will lead to lots of health problems, ranging from cognitive issues to digestive and degenerative issues. The addiction to these drugs is actually driven by hacking the neurotransmitter system where the chronic relapsing happens - this is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use. So, we want to be careful about the use of these medications and it's really important to be aware that if you've been prescribed one of these medications for pain, you have to wean yourself off to avoid being addicted to it.  We will also have quick review of neurons and the functions of the innate nervous system and innate immune system cells that are around there which help the brain function.   Rate and review before the next episode. Vagus Nerve Involvement In Angiogenesis
Hello everybody and welcome to the Heath Upgrade Podcast In today’s episode, we have a very interesting topic which is the complex tie between macrophages and angiogenesis, in both health and in disease, as well as the development and production of the network of blood vessel in angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the process by which we produce new blood vessels and macrophages plays an important role in the production and maintenance of these blood vessels which is why they are a pair. Without macrophages, our blood vessel will not form in the correct pattern, and those connections of the vasculature structure will not be created correctly. We can say that macrophages are the core of the creation of the blood vessel. We’ll also touch on the peripheral vascular disease, chronic inflammation, iron homeostasis and the process of angiogenesis and macrophages which is linked with that. Vagus Nerve Involvement In Hormones And Reproduction
In today's episode, we are excited to discuss a new topic that will lead us into understanding reproduction and the importance of macrophages. Macrophages is very vital and essential in the production of our hormone, and producing reproductive organs, both male and female. These cells chaperone the production of reproductive organs and reproductive cells through development, and through life in general.      We will also be digging deep into the autonomic nervous system and the entire process of reproduction overall. The autonomic nervous system is critically involved in the process of fertility, high level of stress, high level of inflammation, and a high level of obesity can affect ASN which can throw the system off. This may lead to fertility problems. Overall, the balance of hormones plays an important role in the entire reproduction and the fertility challenges that may occur.  Rate and review before the next episode. Development And Modulation Of Macrophages
Our topic today is very scientific, heavy, and wonderful. It's something that I think, as we go through, it's clearly going to open your eyes to understanding the immune system, how the immune system has been misunderstood for quite some time, and the cells that are actually required for our homeostatic optimal function. So today, we're going to dig into macrophages and all the different types of macrophages within the body. We are analyzing their role in development, homeostasis, and in inflammation. We are also explaining why these cells function the way they do, and why they're super important!  Rate and review before the next episode.
