This group of 6th graders were awarded "Honorable Mention" in the NPR 2020 Student Podcast Challenge for their submission of "The Infamous Watermelon War." Just what is the infamous watermelon war? Well, you'll have to listen to find out.

These ambitious sixth grade girls received honorable mention in NPR's 2020 Student Podcast Challenge when they decided to interview Marlboro Twp.'s mayor, Jon Hornick, about the creepy past of Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital.  

Casey Murphy is a goalkeeper for OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League. She was kind enough to join Sofia and Mrs. Corsi to discuss soccer and the women's pay gap. This was recorded during remote learning. We had some technical difficulties on the outset, but got them resolved pretty quickly. Thanks for listening!

Seth Grumet, the founder of Stomp the Monster, a 5K run/charity organization that helps those diagnosed with cancer endure the costs of treatment.  These 6th graders got Seth on the phone to talk with them about cancer and the organization. This podcast was submitted to the 2020 NPR Student Podcast Challenge. Although it was not a finalist or receive honorable mention, this group conducted a fantastic interview. Mrs. Burke's 6th graders are back at it again. Some students chose to give podcasting a go for their project based assessment. This episode is a sit down interview with none other than Gilgamesh. It's pretty epic!

This is a bonus episode that accompanies the "And Then There Were None Rap" music track. It gives a behind the scenes look into the project--the music, the book, and the writing process. More importantly, it shows what can be accomplished when a teacher provides opportunities for student choice, technology is leveraged to engage learning, and students are given the freedom to creatively express themselves.
