Including his own, he’d been present for the birth of countless children. He’d seen both despair and untold grief as well as the joy of recovery in the same sterile waiting room.  But still, after all he’d been shown, Chad was thankful he could still be shocked. New neighbors that either like to blast K-pop until dawn, or who cover their windows with tin foil to mask the drug making operation inside. Maybe a new addition to the family brings the home to capacity. Or, maybe its haunted. You’ve got a restless spirit, or a poltergeist, hell, a demon, that’s making life unbearable. You can’t sleep, or eat. You can’t remember why you fell in love with  the house in the first place. All that matters, is getting out." Chapter Eighteen: "Most of the time, when we lose items of value, we panic. We imagine scenarios where undesirables are flipping through the photos on our phones, or going on shopping sprees with out little plastic rectangles, but generally, we come out unscathed. If we re lucky, we find the phone or sets of keys between couch cushions. Under the driver’s seat. And further, most often we have passwords and security questions, failsafes to repel and discourage any unsavory activity, and most of these things are replaceable. Keys can be recut, credit cards can be cancelled and reissued, phones can be replaced, often with newer, faster models. For lack of a better phrase, it isn’t the end of the world.  But what about pieces of your life that are irreplaceable? There are one of a kind souvenirs,  brutal losses that take time to get over, but I’m referring to living beings. Those that breathe. And bleed."
