Ep. 72: Discrimination in Vancouver
Episode 72 has arrived. We spend a lot of it talking about Rachel Doerrie's lawsuit against the Vancouver Canucks alleging discrimination against her by their administration, most notably Emilie Castonguay. We also eulogize Borje Salming, touch on Kris Letang, Cal Peterson to waivers, Matt Murray's shenanigans, good teams, bad teams and Patty Maroon: Humanitarian. Also, we talk about late 90s middle school fashion. Come for the fashion, stay for the hockey.

Ep. 71: PHF Better Late Than Never Preview
Episode 71 is our belated due to sickness PHF Preview. It is stuffed to the spiracle with our decidedly dodgy opinions, predictions, and reading of roster change tea leaves. We cover every team, even ones that just started to exist, as well as our predictions for MVP, Isobel Cup champion, etc... Unfortunately, since this happened, we also cover the Mitchell Miller clown show that went down in Boston and, honestly, we aren't super happy about it. We hope you enjoy!

Ep. 70: Phil Kessel Usurps Tony Stark
We are back with Episode 70. In this one we're recapping all the fun bits from the last two weeks. Well, that and Hockey Canada and Ian Cole, both of which are awful. Phil Kessel, however, is the exact opposite of awful and is now your NHL Iron Man. We also talk about the games in Prague, Tankathon 2022, and we talk shit about every single Reverse Retro jersey. Thank you for listening!

Ep. 69: Our Extra Nice 2022-23 Season Preview
The NHL is back and so is Rob! Former cohost and friend of the podcast Rob joins us to recap the last five weeks including Chara, Subban and Yandle's retirements, Jagr's probable retirement, more Hockey Canada drudgery, Canucks ownership is bad at being daddy, and a freed Tyler Bertuzzi. We then recap our not so great prognostications from last year and dive into the 2022-23 season. What is gonna be NICE? What's gonna be NOT NICE? Who will win what? And, as always, some opportunities for us to look stupid. Thank you for listening!

Ep. 68: Votes of No Confidence
Episode 68 is up for your listening pleasure. We spend the first half of the episode talking about the major happenings in women's hockey since we last recorded, Canada takes gold, Hilary Knight goes plaid, Brianna Decker goes PHF, and Sarah Nurse goes to the cover. Also, the PWHPA announces this year's Dream Gap Tour, Montreal uses the Force, and more. On the back half we catch you up on the latest with Hockey Canada, the Kadri, Kessel, Miller, Thompson and Oettinger signings, Jonathan Huberdeau donating his brain (in the future, not now) and much more. Thank you for listening, everyone.

Ep. 67: Katie Strang Writing About Your Alma Mater
New episode who dis? Episode 67 is out and it's not nearly as depressing as the last. We do have to talk about the fallout of Mel Pearson's firing from the University of Michigan, but other than that we touch on a ton of endings like Joe Thornton's career, Robin Lehner's 2022-23, Max Pacioretty's momentary but always precipitous health, Eddie Olczyk's time in Chicago and more. We also talk about Minnesota's awful decision to have a Law Enforcement Appreciation Night in a city that just sentenced several of its officers to prison sentences for murdering a black man, noted homophobe, transphobe, all of the -phobes Bill Haslam purchasing the Nashville Predators and Cale Makar's day with the cup. Join us for all of this and - if you can believe it - even more shenanigans and indictments of toxic hockey culture. Thanks for listening.

Ep. 66: Oh (Hockey) Canada
Hey there. This episode gets the big ol' TW/SA tag as we spend the bulk of this one on the multitude of sexual assault issues that have cropped up in Canada as of late. They include the sad but not altogether surprising conclusion of the Jake Virtanen trial, Daryl Katz being accused of paying an underaged ballerina for sex and - of course - all of the Hockey Canada awfulness. We bookend that with talking about Brad Treliving making the most out of a messy situation and Zdeno Chara hanging up his skates. Find us anywhere you get your podcasts and thank you for listening.

Ep. 65: More Women in the Hall, Please
Hey folks, our summer posting schedule is pretty sporadic because we only get 3 - 4 good weather months in Portland but, rest assured, we still exist. Episode 65 has a whole bunch of stuff including us recapping various times the Avs have dropped the Cup, HOF inductees, PHF in Montreal, Hailey Wickenheiser in Toronto, Mike Grier in San Jose, and then a whole bunch of player movement that is not even remotely comprehensive. We finish with a chat about Russians trapped in Russia, Pavel Datsyuk is not trapped in Russia but is retired, and the passing of Bryan Marchment. Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Ep. 64: Somehow No Nintendo 64 Jokes
Hi folks, it's time for Episode 64 of the Handsome Hockey Podcast and as the title suggests we didn't get a single Nintendo 64 joke in there despite both of us growing up in that glorious era. Instead Jake, for some reason, decided to give spoken word versions of several Bush classics confounding Evan whilst bringing great joy to himself. In between Bush lyrics we talk about the Stanley Cup Finals, the PHF offseason, the U18 Women's World Championships, the NHL coaching carousel, Connor McDavid getting caught, the NHL awards including MORITZ SEIDER WINNING THE CALDER LIKE THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN THAT HE IS and a whole lot more. Thank you for listening and stay handsome, everyone.

Ep. 63: Horribly Wrong Prognostications
Hi there, Handsome Friends. Episode 63 is here. In this one we talk about the slow and yet chaotic start to PHF free agency. We then talk about the Stanley Cup conference semis and, because we recorded right after game one of the EDM/COL series get a lot of stuff wrong about NY/TB game one. Tw/sa we talk about the Rick Westhead report about the sexual assault lawsuit and allegations brought against Hockey Canada, the CHL and 8 anonymous members of the 2017-18 Canadian world juniors team. We also sadly are talking about Mitchell Miller and Jordan Binnington again, not so sadly about Meghan Duggan and Angela James' new gigs, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Thank you for listening.

Ep. 62: Commissioner Batman and Free Range Rovers
We have been gone for a while, so you are getting quite the recap in Episode 62 including Commissioner Gary Batman. We recap the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs including the battle of Toronto vs Inevitability, Brad Marchand's full heel turn, and other vibes. We also preview round two's matchups of the Battle of Alberta, the Battle of Florida and the Battle of Tony D. Then it is on to PHF free agency, including Mikayla Grant-Mentis' big contract, Reagan Carey's ascension as PHF commissioner, and we recorded before the PHF awards were announced so you get our prognostications rather than results. Finally we touch on the sexual assault allegations against Mike Ribeiro, Dustin Brown's retirement, the coaching carousel, and then close with a brief chat about why it took us so long to record again which boils down to we were to pissed off about the death of civil rights in the US and our seeming lack of ability to prevent white nationalist terrorists and it really sucks.

Ep. 61: Women's Hockey: Mount Up
Hi, Handsome friends. Episode 61 is out and we have a ton of women's hockey news. We do start with both of us ranting about the NHLPA's "miscommunication" that led to Kyle Beach's sexual assault claims going completely uninvestigated. Then spend a good amount of time on Jeff Marek announcing the first information on the upcoming PWHPA sponsored women's league, the PHF's new salary, health care, free agency and cap floor, Digit Murphy's not at all shocking ascendancy in BTM partners, and Angela James becoming the GM of the Six. We then spend too much time talking about hot dogs, goalie news, Buffalo's move from sucking to just being bad, the passing of Mike Bossy and finish with Americans in bars abroad - Matthew Tkachuk and Josh Norris edition.

Ep. 60: Things Fall Apart
Episode 60 is here and our podcast is almost as old as our parents. In this one we go a little in depth about the PWHPA's decision to move forward, creating a league independent of the already established PHF. Also in women's hockey we chat about the NOT AT ALL RELATED moves of Digit Murphy joining the Rivs and Anya Packer stepping aside. Then we dive in on NHL things that are gone - Keith Yandle's streak, Ryan Getzlaf's career, Buffalo's playoff chances, Drew Doughty's season, then also talk about the recent influx of college talent into the NHL. Then we finish it off with brief chats about the impending Stanley Cup Playoffs, Evgeni Malkin doing Evgeni Malkin things, Chris Krieder's incredible season and Ryan Hartman as the hero of the people.

Ep. 59: What It Sounds Like When a Whale Cries
Well hello there. We are back with Episode 59, which means we have one more episode before we are studied by gerontology majors. In this one we celebrate Trans Visibility Day and Luke Prokop's fancy new skates. We also finish off the Evgenii Dadonov's trade / no trade, chat about the passing of Eugene Melnyk, and then Jake gets emotional about the Whale losing the Isobel Cup. We talk about the Boston Pride's heel turn, and playoff MVP greatness. In NHL news we talk about some scoring milestones, playoff eliminations, Taylor Hall's not so heinous but should have been suspended punch, Will Smith, Phil Kessel, and more hockey than you can shake a 75 flex at.

Ep. 58: Story Time With Jake and Evan
Yes, we know the NHL trade deadline has now passed - look at us recording after it for once - but we start off with this past week's most pressing hockey news: The Connecticut Whale are regular season PHF champions. We talk about Kennedy Marchment's MVP candidacy, preview the Isobel Cup championships happening this weekend, and celebrate the Whale in all their glory. We then talk about CCHA championship shenanigans, and finally the NHL trade deadline. We talk about winners, losers and then we tell the story of three team's trade deadlines through life metaphors including the Coyotes making their mother cry.

Ep. 57: Jagr For World President
Episode 57 is here for your ears and while not a lot has really happened in hockey, there's a lot going on in the hockey-verse, which is like the metaverse but not totally awful. In this episode we talk about the world celebrating Phil Kessel having intercourse, Miro Heiskanen getting mono, Philly doling out silly contracts, Eichel returning to Buffalo, new BIPOC ownership in the PHF and we prognosticate on more PHF and NHL awards than you can shake that P88 curve at. We close out by talking about Jaromir Jagr - hero to many - and his fundraising efforts to help Ukrainian refugees and what a marvelous human being he is.

Ep. 56: Just Here For the Drama
In this new to us and to you episode we talk about the Olympics and condemn misogynistic poop heads for saying that women's hockey should be removed, NHL trade season is upon us and we talk about deals already done. We also talk about Zdeno Chara's record setting night, and Filip Forsberg being dangled like Vanilla Ice off a balcony by Suge Knight as trade bait. Then we talk about the drama that isn't as dramatic as we first thought with commissioner Tyler Tumminia stepping down and recap the growth of the league under their watch. Also sprinkled in is Nathan MacKinnon whacking a ref with his stick, Pekka Rinne getting his number retired, and we repeatedly tell people not to invade Ukraine.

BONUS! Ep. 2: Upset, But Not Irate
In this bonus episode we go back to where this podcast began at our first true recording session that wasn't in a bar. We'll cram into the Delorean and travel back in time to August 11th, 2020: a happier time immediately after NHL hockey returned from the first COVID hiatus. We are joined by good friend, sometimes teammate, step-podfather, and now technically first guest Rob Otero to talk about all things hockey news at the weird reboot of the season that August. Transport yourself to a time when the 2020 draft lottery balls had just dropped giving the Rangers the 1st pick, nobody had heard of Wordle, John Tortorella was still a coach, Trump was still in office, King Henrik still reigned, Carter Hart was good, Tony DeAngelo wasn't universally hated, Evan was still an unabashed Blackhawks fan, and people all thought Alexis Lafreniere would be an instant star. In this meandering discussion we address rage levels at different places pick 1 might have gone, playoff series in the bubble, renaming Columbus, going to mass at Jagr Church, and the imminent forming of the Seattle Kraken, amongst many other topics.

Ep. 55: All Star Breaks and Blackhawks Break Ups
In this episode Evan and Jake talk about the charges levied against Jake Virtanen, Evander Kane's new contract, the rise and fall of a union executive director - No, not Jimmy Hoffa, Alex Sinatra - lots of women's hockey news, some NHL quick hits including Alex Ovechkin "getting COVID" and spend a while on the Blackhawks because they just can't quit screwing things up.

Ep. 54: Hockey Vibes Both Good and Bad
We're back with Episode 54. In this episode we talk about power moves by the PHF and by Vancouver in hiring women in high ranking front office positions. We also talk about Willie O'Ree's number getting retired by the Boston Bruins and then a lot of talk about why we cannot celebrate him enough because of the ways racism still impacts hockey. We then talk about tw/sa the Reid Boucher trial and impacts. Then, since we like having fun, we talk about Givani and Gemel Smith getting to play together, Leon Draisaitl getting "pissy", Josh Ho Sang getting called up to the Canadian Olympic team and Aaron Dell with the Not-So People's Elbow on Drake Batherson. Thank you for listening.
