Gun Ads USA Interview Transcript
J.S.T. Andrews: I have with me here today Blake Cornish from Gun Ads USA. How are you doing today, Blake?
Blake Cornish: I’m doing great. How’re you doing, Jason?
I’m doing well, thank you. We reviewed your website last week a little bit, and I have to say it is a wonderful website. It’s a little bit between Craigslist and eBay put together, where you sell firearms and like products and accessories. You wanna tell us a little bit about your site?
Well, you kinda wrapped it up right there. It’s gunadsusa.com, and about a year ago, my partner – my brother and I – we were talking about a conversation we had with another guy who sells ammunition online, and he basically got banned from advertising on Google.
Google and Bing and all those other big, giant sites are basically anti-second amendment. So, we kind of joked around and said “You know what, we should start our own Google and be friendly 2nd Amendment,” and that’s how we kind of came up with it, and then we kind of whittled that down to gunadsusa.com, and I know there’s other sites out there that are strictly auction or strictly classified, so that’s why we kind of came up with a hybrid of both, so to give you both options.
On your site you can list firearms and accessories and stuff, but what other products can you actually list on your site?
So basically, you can list anything from firearms to archery, hunting equipment, camping equipment, knives, survival equipment, gun dealers can go on there and open up storefronts and have unlimited listings. You know, if you’re a shooting range you can put ads up there, taxidermists, gunsmiths, ammunition… basically, you know, there’s thousands and thousands of options of things that you can list for sale on our site.
You mentioned that a gun dealer is able to go on your site and list things, so is an individual able to go on there and list multiple listings if they’re a private seller?
Yes. An individual seller can go up there and have up to ten items at a time, with two free pictures per listing. Yes.
And then, to go past that, there’s a subscription fee for that?
Yeah, and you’re looking at anywhere between $20 and $30 dollars for the subscription fee, depending on what level of package you choose and how long the subscription is. If you do month-to-month it’s going to be a little bit more, if you do 12 months you’ll get a break.
If you want a storefront versus just a business account, it’s gonna be a few dollars extra a month. A storefront basically kind of gives you a link on the front page, and then you can have a direct link that goes to it and advertises it, and put it on your own website, as well, if you wanted to do that.
With the storefront, are they able to list the firearms for an extended amount of time with the storefront, rather than just doing the seven day listing?
Yes, we can extend it up, I believe we can extend it up to a year.
Oh, that’s great.
Yeah, absolutely.
Even people – individual, private sellers – that aren’t FFL dealers, they can get that subscription as well, correct?
Absolutely, you know. If you’re an individual and you’re kind of a hobbyist or enthusiast and you have more than 10 items you want to sell, sort of like you would on eBay, we can just set up a subscription and you can have unlimited listings, as well.
We also mentioned before that someone can – you can have ammo dealers and taxidermy as well as services. What other services are people allowed to list on your site?
Well, like taxidermy, gunsmithing, firing ranges, and we have a little separate pricing for those guys, as well, or gals. It’s only about 3 dollars a month, because you’re not gonna have a ton – if you’re a gunsmith, you know, you’re not gonna be putting up a ton of ads, you’re just gonna maybe be putting up 1 or 2 ads, advertising your services. Same way with taxidermy or even shooting ranges. You might put up some specials here and there, but generally you’re not gonna put up 10,000 ads like maybe a gun dealer would.
When I was poking around on your site last week, I noticed there’s a couple different ways to search for the services and products. Could you explain that a little bit?
Well basically, you can either search by region or you can do a national search. Is that what you were referring to?
Yeah, if you go by region can you go as far as your city, or does it go by state?
Yeah. We drew it down by state and then city, and some places it’s also county. It’s just depending on how densely populated an area is, you know. So, if it’s a kind of rural area, we’ve kind of broken into like, kind of more county areas.
Kind of like the way Craig’s List has it, to where you can click on certain areas, so like, Lakeland would include everything around
