Ron Jones is a true American iconoclast. As a young High School history teacher at Cubberley HS, in Palo Alto in 1967, Ron ran a social experiment with his class to demonstrate how fascism could take root and flourish in a community. What ensued was a week of intense immersive experiment that took a life of its own, and was highly controversial. Ron’s experiment, was depicted in a fantastic 2008 German film entitled Die Welle (The Wave) 50 years later, Ron sees many of the same mechanisms of fascism reappearing in many countries throughout the world, and sat down with me to reflect on his work as an activist teacher, and his response to the Trump Presidency. Ron lives in San Francisco with his wife Deanna, to whom he has been married since the days of the experiment. Check out this episode!
