Episode 141: An Exclusive Look Inside the Village for Sex Offenders
For "Welcome to Pariahville", his story in this month's GQ, Jay Kirk dove into the strange world of The City of Refuge (formerly Miracle Village), a sex-offender sanctuary deep in the sugarcane fields of South Florida. What he found was sad, salacious, grotesque, and, at times, surprisingly moving.

Episode 140: NPR's Scott Simon on Being Raised by a Mad Men-Era Mother and His New Book "Unforgettable"
"I love holding my mothers hand. Haven't held it like this since I was 9. Why did I stop? I thought it unmanly? What crap." That's a tweet that Scott Simon shared from the bedside of his mother two years ago, as she lay dying in a Chicago hospital room. It was a series of tweets that Simon, the host of NPR's "Weekend Edition" sent out during her last days: dispatches to the world, as much as intimate notes sent to himself. In conversation with Michael Hainey, Simon discusses "Unforgettable" his powerful, beautiful new book that grew out of those days at his mother's side.
