Whyte House Family Devotions: Prayer for the Family, Church, Nation & World #223 (Short Version) (12/30/17)
My family and I have had morning devotions, or family altar as some people call it, everyday ever since my wife, Meriqua, and I were married 30 years ago. We have prayed and read the Bible together as well as other devotional books as a family and it is the only reason why this family has stayed together and it is the only reason why God has blessed our family and used our family in ministry all of these years. We read Ephesians 5 and 6 every morning as it relates to the role of each member of the family and how that we need to put on the whole armor of God to fight against the devil who is seeking to destroy our family and all Christian families, churches, and Christians. Sometimes our devotions would last 3 or 4 hours. So if you see 45 minutes to an hour, don't be shocked. That is an abridgement. So, now after 30 years of doing this in our home, we are opening this up to others who don’t have a family to pray with, who don’t have a spouse, who are single by choice, and to encourage all families who are still in tact to go back to the family altar and have devotions together every morning. In these devotions, you may hear me deal with a temptation I’m facing in my life, you may hear me rebuke my wife about not doing what she should be doing, or you may hear me get on one of my children’s cases about something they’re doing. Don’t be shocked; this is real life. DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE: Psalm 96:7-13

How to Win at Spiritual Warfare Through Prayer, Part 5 (Praying Through the Bible #277)
TEXT: Ephesians 6:18-20 In our last message, we began talking about the prayer of agreement as one of the many forms of prayer we should employ in spiritual warfare. This prayer is based on Jesus' words in Matthew 18:19-20: "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." The prayer of agreement was the first act that the early church carried out after Jesus’ ascension. Acts 1:13-14 tells us, “They went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”

Christmas According to Linus
TEXT: LUKE 2:8-14 For years now, Christmas has been marred by a focus on shopping, gift giving, parties, decorating, feasting, and family gatherings. While all of these things are good in their place, none of them are what Christmas is about, and as these trends continue, young people and the growing non-religious segment in our country risk never knowing the true meaning of Christmas. Like Charlie Brown in the famous animated Christmas classic, many may soon be asking, "Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?"

Jesus Reveals God's True Intent Behind the Law, Part 55 -- The Law of Love (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 324 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 691 since Jan. 1, 2016)
TEXT: Matthew 5:43-45 We often approach our enemies from the idea of trying to get back at them "prove a point" -- that we are right and they are wrong. But Jesus commands us to love our enemies in order to prove something different -- that we are "the children of our Father in Heaven." You see, it is one thing to say you are a child of God, but it is another thing to act like a child of God. People pay attention to our actions more than our words. And, most importantly, God is watching to see whether we will emulate His Son in our behavior. In fact, He often allows enemies into our lives in order to test us and see how we will respond. If we respond to hate with hate, we act as children of this world, or worse yet, children of Satan. But if we respond with love, we show ourselves to be the children of God and citizens of Heaven.

How to Overcome Temptation, Part 66 (Onward Christian Soldiers #190)
1 Peter 2:9-12 This passage is quite relevant to us today in light of the multitude of revelations regarding the sexual conduct and misconduct of people in positions of power in the media, entertainment, and politics. Apparently, many, though few would be likely to admit it, struggle with abstaining from the lusts of the flesh. But these people have the same struggle as you and I: Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, George H.W. Bush, Charlie Rose, Russell Simmons, Tavis Smiley, Al Franken, Roy Moore, Louis C.K., Steven Seagal, Mark Halperin, Kevin Spacey, and others. Regarding Kevin Spacey, I never cared for him. I always thought something was off about him. However, in the beginning of House of Cards, he almost had me convinced that he was all right. But now we know that he is a homosexual, and he has had the biggest downfall.

The Free State of Glory (Part 53): Better Days Ahead, Part 2
TEXT: Revelation 22:12-21 At this time of year, people are in the business of sending and receiving invitations -- invitations to Christmas parties, New Year's parties, end-of-year get-togethers, and, for the politically correct among us, "holiday parties." Essentially, the message of these invitations can be summed up in one word -- "Come." Come, join us. Come, celebrate with us. Come, ring in the New Year. These happy events are, in some way, an escape, a reprieve from the daily grind of the world. Here, in the Revelation, a book of judgment and wrath, we find an invitation to "Come" -- such a little word, but such great comfort is in those four letters. After 21 chapters, mostly filled with unpleasant reminders of the fallen state of man, the evil governments that oppose Christ, and the persecution of the saints, how pleasant it must have been for the believers who first read this book to be invited out of this world and to come to a better place. How pleasant it is for us to receive this invitation to leave this world of "swift death and little bliss" (in the words of J.R.R. Tolkien).

Jesus Reveals God's True Intent Behind the Law, Part 54 -- The Law of Love (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 322 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 689 since Jan. 1, 2016)
TEXT: Matthew 5:43-45 Amy Carmichael said, “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” In this passage, Jesus lets us know that the only way we can truly love our enemies is by giving of ourselves -- by our prayers, words, and deeds. He shares three ways that we can do this. First, He says, "Bless them that curse you." We should invoke blessings over our enemies instead of wishing for bad things to happen to them. Then, He says, "Do good to them that hate you." We ought to act in a manner that is positive in response to negativity from others. Third, He tells us to love our enemies by "praying for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."

What is the Gospel? (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 321 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 688 since Jan. 1, 2016)
According to 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the Gospel is embodied in these words: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." 1 Corinthians 2:2 says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified."
