Nullify! They Don’t Want us Doing This. We’re Doing it Anyway
Following the wisdom and advice of the Founders and Old Revolutionaries, we recognize that the federal government is one of limited, delegated powers. When it exceeds those limits, it commits an act of usurpation – which must be rendered “void.” Establishment left and right want us to rely on the federal government to somehow fix itself – they all despise nullification. But that won’t stop supporters of the Constitution and liberty from using it anyway. When Our Rights are Invaded: The Founders on Precedent and Resistance
As Thomas Jefferson warned us, to take a “single step” beyond the limits of the constitution is to take a “boundless field of power.” He was far from alone. As students of history, leading Founders like John Dickinson and George Washington also recognized that any precedent for more power represented a dangerous expansion. But that’s far from how precedents are treated today. Should Alexander Hamilton be Canceled?
During the ratifying debates, Alexander Hamilton was every bit as Madisonian as James Madison. He sold the Constitution as a document that gave the federal government only a few limited powers. But once it was ratified, he did a complete 180, and his views – more than any other founder – are the foundation for the largest government in the history of the world today. Centralization is the Problem, not the Solution
The Founders universally opposed “consolidation” – or centralization of government power – as dangerous and destructive to liberty. Patrick Henry, James Madison, Fisher Ames, George Washington and others warned against it. But today, we see it on almost every issue, with the 4th Amendment making for a pretty stark example. Natural Rights: Liberty Doesn’t Need a Government Permission Slip
Even though many people credit Thomas Jefferson for the natural rights principles in the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson himself pointed out that he didn’t invent those ideas. Instead, he wrote, he had adopted the “harmonizing sentiments of the day,” views which were widely accepted and understood. From 1764 to 1776, Americans produced a rich series of pamphlets, resolutions and speeches which he based those principles on. Patrick Henry: Top-10 Quotes from the “Lion of Liberty”
One of the greatest orators in American history, Patrick Henry is most famous for quotes like “If this be treason…” and “Give me liberty or give me death!” But, beyond those rallying cries, the “Lion of Liberty” repeatedly and consistently warned us against centralization of power, and urged resistance and noncompliance when government overstepped its bounds. The Peoples’ Nullification of the Stamp Act
A combination of protests, declarations, disobedience, local resolutions, support from merchants, and non-enforcement by sheriffs and other local officials created a climate where the Stamp Act was unenforceable. Parliament ended up repealing it even though they didn’t want to. This is what Murray Rothbard called “the peoples’ nullification of the Stamp Act.” Path to Liberty: December 7, 2020 Subscribe: Apple | Spotify | Podbean | Google | Stitcher | TuneIn | RSS | More Platforms Here SHOW LINKS: JOIN TAC Show Archives Stamp Act overview The Seed from Which the Sons of Liberty Grew Patrick Henry vs the Stamp Act Rothbard Chapter 31 Conceived in Liberty Audio Book Wiki: Samuel Ward Sons of Liberty and Resistance to the Stamp Act Resistance: Resolutions of the Stamp Act Congress (Oct. 19, 1765) JL Bell on Colonial Court Dickinson Broadside and other responses (pdf) ALTERNATE VIDEO SOURCES Watch on LBRY Watch on Facebook Watch on Bitchute Watch on Twitch.tv Watch on Brighteon Watch on Periscope Watch on BitTube Watch on DLive FOLLOW and SUPPORT TAC: Become a Member: http://tenthamendmentcenter.com/members/ Email Newsletter: http://tenthamendmentcenter.com/register RSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tacdailydigest Brave: Use Brave Browser for Privacy and Help Support TAC YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/TenthAmendmentCenter Twitter: http://twitter.com/tenthamendment Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tenthamendmentcenter/ Periscope: https://www.periscope.tv/TenthAmendment/ Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/tenthamendmentcenter DLive: https://dlive.tv/TenthAmendmentCenter Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tenthamendmentcenter Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/X0AJnBhWbCkx/ Minds: https://www.minds.com/TenthAmendmentCenter LBRY: https://lbry.tv/@TenthAmendmentCenter The post The Peoples’ Nullification of the Stamp Act first appeared on Tenth Amendment Center Blog.

James Madison’s Warning: Top-10 Quotes on War and Power
As a student of history, the “Father of the Constitution” recognized not only that power will always be liable to abuse – but that war was, perhaps, the most “dreaded” enemy to public liberty.
