#5: Google Pixel 2 Day, State of VR & AR
Today’s episode marks a return of the excitement for the smartphone cycle. I was a little worried at first, but this year at least, I feel like the best device was saved for last. My excitement about the Pixel and Pixel XL phones really has nothing to do with the hardware, awesome as it is. I mean, let’s face it, we are firmly at the point of returns so diminished you’d be hard pressed to find a major difference from one year to the next with any manufacturer. What’s got me so jazzed up this year is the (seemingly) smart implementation of the software that runs it. At least when it comes to 2018, the software is what will differentiate the good devices from the great ones.
I also go into my thoughts, or worries really, about the current state of VR. I also sprinkle in a little AR talk, more specifically in comparison to VR both currently and in the future. I’ve been dreaming of a Star Trek holodeck experience in real life. Needless to say, where I was once felt like that was a realistic shot, I’m not so sure now. And getting my hopes teased up, only to have that bubble burst, would be far worse than never having had the hope in the first place.
All this and more in this episode…well, okay, maybe not more. All this, passionately expounded upon, in this episode of the show.
