The essence of Bhagavad Gita is Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti refers to devotion to the Supreme Lord. Krishna declares Himself the Supreme Lord and Absolute Truth throughout the Bhagavad Gita advising the yogi to meditate upon Himself with love. The text culminates in the instruction to surrender to Krishna in full devotion making him the object of all meditation and worship. This is an esoteric secret requiring the personal qualification of devotion, austerity and non-enviousness. One must hear Bhagavad Gita from a proper source to enter into this great mystery.

Krishna discusses Jnana Yoga. Jnana Yoga is practiced by someone advanced enough in the path of Karma Yoga to take Sanyassa or to renounce the performance of prescribed duties in the world. They then devote themselves to the study of scripture as the primary means of distinguishing truth from illusion, intent on attaining Brahman or spiritual perfection. Krishna analyzes matter and spirit in great detail, including how to distinguish the three modes of material nature, the divine and demonic natures, the nature of the soul, the nature of God, and the nature of the world and how the laws of the world work as well as how all of these factors interact. 

Krishna discusses Astanga Yoga, or Dhyana Yoga, the process of mystical union with the Divine. We explore the eight levels of astanga yoga : proper  and improper behavior, sensual control, physical purification, breath control, trance, meditation, deep meditation and spiritual perfection. We also discuss Yoga Misra Bhakti, a mystical process of leaving the body at a precise time, combining yoga and bhakti, to achieve liberation for samsara. 

Krishna discusses karma yoga, which is the performance of ones duties as prescribed in the Vedas, but in a detached state of consciousness. This consciousness arises from transcendental knowledge. Transcendental knowledge comes to one through an authorized spiritual teacher and originates with Krishna. If one grasps after the fruits of their work, identifying as matter rather than spirit, one is subjected to samsara, or bondage to the cycle of rebirth under the law of karma. Transcendental knowledge frees on of sin and liberates one from samsara. 

Before entering into the higher subject matter of the Bhagavat Purana, one should study the Bhagavad Gita, or Song of God. Part of the Mahabharata, this literature of 700 verses is a spiritual discussion between Krishna and Arjuna in the midst of two armies about to fight. It is a road map of  the various systems of Yoga, explaining the different conceptions of the Absolute Truth, culminating in loving surrender to God. It begins with the lamentations expressed by Arjuna in the face of the performance of his duties as a warrior. 

Sukadeva Goswami arrives in the assembly of sages to instruct Maharaja Pariksit and prepare him for death. Suta Goswami is in attendance and memorizes the spiritual discussion he witnesses. He later conveys this discussion to the sages of Naimasaranya who are performing a 1000 year sacrifice. These sages ask questions for the benefit of mankind in the age of Kali. The structure of the Bhagavat Purana is also discussed. 

The Egyptian priesthood worked for the benefit of the entire community, warding off pestilence and wild animals while defending against Egypt's enemies utilizing magical rituals. There were strict requirements to join the priesthood both in hygiene, health and personal behavior. One took oaths to uphold the rules and regulations of the cult. Priests were sworn to secrecy regarding the inner workings of the cult and it’s rituals . As a result, only small scraps of information come down to us today.

The mystical knowledge of Egypt was hidden within the cults practiced by it's priesthood. The head of this priesthood was the Pharaoh who acted as the material and spiritual authority of the land and the medium between the gods and mankind. Egyptian temples were elaborate affairs, surrounded by cities and large agricultural holdings. Priests managed these temple cities, specialized in cult rituals and in education spiritual and mundane.

From his birth Maharaja Pariksit was of saintly character, having been personally protected by Vishnu in the womb, immediately following the end of the battle of Kurukshetra, the central theme of the Mahabharat. During his reign he kept the influence of the materialistic age of Kali at bay. Once on a hunting expedition, overcome by fatigue and thirst, he offended a great sage absorbed in meditation. Being cursed by the sages son to die in seven days, Maharaja Pariksit assumed the determination to fast while absorbed in spiritual consciousness. 

The Egyptian priest Abammon discusses the appearance of supernatural beings which are deceptive and mislead one, posing as someone they are not. This is due to not performing the magical ritual properly. One needs to perform the ritual according to the strict guidelines of the mystery school using the symbols and names associated with that god. If done properly a genuine god will appear and they are unmistakably real. The god illuminates ones intuition deep within ones soul and so there is an immediate recognition of the gods true position.

Two kinds of souls can be summoned through magic rituals. The perfected soul, liberated beyond matter appears as a blazing flame. They guide one towards spiritual perfection. The condemned souls of the dead appear in a multitude of forms, moving feebly and barely visible, like shadows. They are filled with lamentation and draw ones consciousness into material things. They appear carrying symbols of their bondage, such as chains and are accompanied by the daemons of the underworld who punish them and hold constant authority over them.

Archons are the evil angels of Gnosticism. They imprison man within the confines of matter under the direction of the wicked demiurge. Cosmic archons are planetary deities, encompassing souls within the bondage of their influence. Lower archons directly control the material reality experienced by us in this realm. They work to destroy our spiritual aspirations. They appear tumultuously within the magic ritual, some very large and beautiful, others only imitating beauty, to confer material blessings upon the magician, benedictions which further entangle him in matter.

After composing the Bhagavat Purana, Vyasadeva educates his son in this most important text. Sukadeva was enlightened from his birth and was so detached from matter, he cared not for family, friends and society or even if he was clothed. He arrives within an assembly of sages on the bank of the Ganges and is invited to speak the Bhagavatam to the Emperor Parikshit who has been cursed to die in seven days.

Half gods appear within the magic ritual accompanied by earthquakes and demonstrations of power. They are noble, heroic, courageous, proud and desire the fulfillment of mankind. Ringed in fire and light, they speak in booming echoing voices. Their presence arouses the individual to great and important deeds and heroic action. They arise from the romantic union of gods and men and are filled with a divine portion of the god who is their parent. Their actions, immortalized in sacred stories, guides mankind to righteous action and preserves the values of the people.

The Daemons appear in magic ritual in a variety of forms both great and small. They announce their presence by creating tumult and disorder. Their forms are smoky like smouldering fire and barely perceptible. They bring ones consciousness into matter, the realm of the cosmos into which they are absorbed. Good daemons display the area of the world which they control. Avenging daemons appear ready to exact vengeance. Lower daemons appear surrounded by hurtful bloodsucking beasts and monstrous wild animals.

When the angels appear within the magic ritual they are milder than the archangels. They emanate an effulgence and a profound sense of order and peacefulness. They will announce their arrival by speaking in the midst of the ritual. They are welcoming and their association weakens the bonds of ones material existence. Due to their presence one is filled with wisdom, truth and an understanding of the Divine Order existing within the universe.

The sage Vyasa was feeling unfulfilled after dividing, writing down and disseminating the Vedas. His guru, Narada Muni, appears and instructs him to emphasize Bhagavat Dharma, or the remembrance and discussion of the names, form, qualities and activities of Vishnu. This is what can truly satisfy the soul and the essence of Vedic knowledge. Narada also tells the story of his life and how he achieved spiritual perfection by practicing Bhagavat Dharma. Vyasadeva writes down the topics of Vishnu discussed among practicioners of Bhagavat Dharma and gives his son, Sukadeva Goswami, the authority to disseminate it.  

The archangels appear in the midst of the magic ritual. Imbibing the influence of the Christianity, Judaism and Kabbalah, archangels the Egyptian priests invoke the presence of these divine beings. They appear with tremendous light, overwhelming the observers with a feeling of peace and an understanding of the Divine Will manifest in the order of nature. 

A description of when gods appear within a magic ritual is given. They shine brilliantly and overwhelm one with spiritual vision. The observer feels their consciousness elevated as he looks upon this vision, feeling tranquility and wonder. Their forms are steady and concrete as if witnessing someone of flesh and bone standing before you. One exits the vision feeling divine love, peacefulness, and renewed sincerity and power. 

The half-gods, or demi-gods, are the product of a relationship between gods and men. These half-gods, such as Hercules, Achilles, and Perseus, are inspirations for mankind and exemplify the ideals and goals of the civilization. They are concerned with the betterment of humanity and display qualities of fierce nobility and strength. Mankind exist in a state of spiritual liberation and a state of material bondage. Through self realization, they can reattain to their true spiritual nature and become greater than supernatural beings. In bondage, the human transmigrates through various forms, attached to them and identifying with them.
