Episode 18 - Rachel Varn – Giving kids independence and freedom through biking
Rachel has been involved with the biking world for quite a while through triathlons, bike repair and maintenance, and being an avid cycler. In April 2018 Rachel found her calling when she saw the need for kids need to learn how to ride bikes. Most of us look back to when we were kids and that is how we got everywhere but now it seems to be a lost art. Rachel provides a ton of education, resources, and tips and tricks to give parents all the tools they need to teach their kids first but when it comes time Rachel will help get the job done and do it in a fun way. She has found a great niche within our community and you can tell by the way she speaks about it, she couldn’t be happier with the difference she is making. Beyond teaching kids to learn how to ride she shows them it can be a great hobby by partnering with Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Episode 15 - Bailey Bennett – Need men from the community to step in and help
Bailey has been a teacher at Glendale Elementary School for the last five years and has always gone above and beyond for her students.  She is one of the most generous, patient, and positive people I have ever met and shows it day in and day out.  Bailey runs her school’s HERO Boys running club for seven weeks every Fall and Spring and does so off the clock.   When I asked Bailey about the best part of her after school program she said, “having the guest speakers come in and talk to the boys about life” and when I asked her about her biggest struggles in the program she said “finding guest speakers come in to speak to the boys each week.”  This is the case for about 30 other Elementary schools in Anne Arundel County where teachers are doing great things but need help from the community.  Let’s help bridge that gap and support them.

Episode - 7 - Carol Ann McCurdy - Kids Spell Love "T-I-M-E"
Carol Ann knows first-hand exactly what we as a community need to do help the students, teachers, and the school as a whole.  As the Director of Partnerships and Development & Marketing for AA County Public Schools it is her sole mission to connect the community to the schools.  This doesn’t necessarily mean we have to go into the schools a few hours a week, or donate money and items but we can offer students a chance to visit our businesses or offer internship opportunities. Everyone has something to offer to the schools.  Pick what you love the most then call your local school and see if you can help.  If that doesn’t work, then call Carol Ann and her team and they will make it easy for you to find the right fit.
