Episode 1. Rakesh Nayyar and his Mission Chai: incredible story of compassion.
Rakesh Nayyar, founder of Mission Chai-- Bangalore India. Rakesh is a satellite engineer with Indian Space Research Organisation and the founder of Mission Chai. Since 2015, Mission Chai have been serving a small cup of heart warming hot tea and a snack to every patient at a cancer hospital , at their bedside, every morning, seven days a week. Bringing a smile, hope and human connection to people, some very poor, suffering from a deadly disease, sometimes without the support of family or money. In 2015, while visiting his father in law in his home town, in a very cold hospital in Amritsar (the temperature was 0’C without heating) , Punjab India, he saw a road sweeper bring hot tea for patients and their attendees from the famous Golden Temple. Upon enquiring more deeply, he realised that the road sweeper did this entirely on his own initiative. He realised on the spot that anyone is equipped to do more simple gestures like this. Inspired by this simple act from a simple poor laborer, he started this in Kidwai cancer hospital in Bangalore upon his return.
