American Holidays Gone Wrong: Juneteenth Edition
Recorded  June 13, 2022 Here's the thing. We totally appreciate the sentiment behind making Juneteenth a holiday. We know it was an attempt to acknowledge and support Black people in America. The thing about American holidays though, is that, as a rule, holidays will be commercialized and in the case of Juneteenth, the commercialization is not  uplifting. We honestly think it would have been better NOT to make it a holiday. There are a number of racially inequitable systems in America that desperately need attention (like Health Care, Financial and Educational to name a few) much more than the need for a day off work and some poorly branded Juneteenth ice-cream. Oooh and wait till you hear the true story near the end! Y'all we are straight up venting today. We invite you to join us! Please support our podcast: Please rate/review, subscribe and share!! Recorded June 6 , 2022 You know you are old when..... (fill in the blank). That right there is the episode and we had so much fun doing it. Is Toxic Femininity Real?
Recorded May 30, 2022 Have you heard references about the Red and Blue Pill? What about the manosphere? How about this one, "toxic femininity"?There is a disturbing movement in full swing and we feel like we are just now grasping the depth of the issue and its potentially devastating ramifications on romantic relationships.   Red Pill - Willingness to learn an unsettling or life-changing truth (about women) Blue pill - Remain in contented ignorance (about the women) The "truth" being referred to here is a profoundly negative perspective on the  modern, independent woman. If what I'm learning is true, there is a distinct hostility among those in the dating world. We just want to make sure you, our listeners, are in the know.   url: My Brush With The Black Manosphere by Nicole Young Please support our podcast: Please rate/review, subscribe and share!! Plant Medicine
Recorded  2/2/22 Questions/Topics: What is Plant Medicine? In this conversation we are discussing psychoactive plants. There are plants that have properties in them such as magic mushrooms (psilocybin ), Ayahuasca (DMT - similar to what you see in LSD except occurring naturally),peyote -a cactus  (mescaline ) and Iboga (Ibogaine) that are used for journeying  and for physical, mental, and emotional healing. Ceremonially these entheogens are used for spiritual healing.  Entheogen - Naturally occurring psychoactive substances that grow on their own. Plant medicine is different from recreational drugs right? What do you mean when you say the plants have mind-altering properties? If it truly helps people connect to their spirituality, helps break unhealthy addictions, heals PTSD and depression, why is it illegal in the US? Since Will and Jada Smith publicly mentioned journeying with Ayahuasca it seems to be more popular.  Can you tell us about this plant medicine? **FUN FACT: All of the aforementioned plant medicines are legal in Oregon. What does "journeying" mean? Are there some people who should stay away from plant medicine? What can people who are currently on mental health medications do if they are interested in plant medicine? Is there an option for them? Where can someone safely have a journey? Where can I get more information? How did you learn so much about plant medicine? How can you work FamU in this conversation? (Not a real question but somehow FamU was mentioned) How can one determine if plant medicine is for them?   Guest notes:   Quotes: "When you have research hospitals like John Hoskins Hospitals, University Hospitals micro-dosing psilocybin, ayahuasca, ibogaine for their psychiatric patients and for their clients and patients with addictions and cancer and they are saying, 'Look at how efficacious this is'; It's only a matter of time until it is legal like marijuana. Fear in Adulthood
Recorded  May 9, 2022 If there is one thing I got from this episode is that adulthood involves navigating a lot of anxiety producing situations and that it would have been nice to have invited a therapist on the episode to describe healthy ways to address the issues we unearthed. Ok that was two things but they are important take-aways from this show.  With May being Mental Health month, it's a good time to acknowledge any fears that are negatively impacting our daily lives and dedicate some time working toward overcoming them. That said, we still had a laugh-out-loud good time revealing our more light-hearted but very real fears. Join us! Please support our podcast: Please rate/review, subscribe and share!! Comparison: The Thief of Joy
Recorded May 2, 2022 Comparison is the Thief of Joy. Everyday that we scroll through social media (as just one example) we expose ourselves to the potential for it. Social media is an easy example. The issue is cultural. It's the American way to want to keep up with the Jones' or should I say the Kardashians. Rather than succumb to the temptation to determine our worth in comparison to others, we discuss healthier methods of self-evaluation and reflection.  Grab a cup of tea and join the conversation. Telling our Stories
Recorded April 17, 2022 May is Share a Story month. Story telling helps people connect with each other and helps us as individuals find our own voice.
