I am absolutely humbled to present to you a VERY SPECIAL PODCAST: Ralph Myerz. If the name doesn't ring a bell, his music surely will. From being featured on the GTA IV soundtrack to Hed Kandi to working with legends like Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Annie, Röyksopp, Datarock etc. etc. But enough with the namedropping. I have a personal reason why this is special for me. I discovered Ralph Myerz much the same way the rest of Norway did, through the genius of Mikal Tellé. On what was once declared one of Norway's most seminal albums: Tellé Samleplate 007, you could find pretty much before anywhere else, the future of Norwegian and Bergen electronica: Who single-handedly curated and made famous the cream of Norwegian Electronica: Röyksopp, Annie, Datarock, Kings of Convenience, and of course Ralph Myerz (and the Jack Herren Band). And while their early Special EP and Special Album brought us the legendary lounge hits Nikita, A Special Morning and Think Twice; it was really their live performances that has stood out for me: Inspired by Kiss and heavy metal bands, they completely revolutionised what it meant to do an electronic live show: Pyrotechnics, double drum kits and of course smashing all the kit to pieces at the end. A RM&tJHB gig was something you'd be sure to remember for the rest of your life and as far from a guy pretending to fiddle knobs to a premixed set you could ever find. And this was the early 2000s! So it is with immense humility I present an EXCLUSIVE 2 HOUR++ mix from one of my all time heroes, featuring some rare and exclusive tracks (you will notice them in the tracklist, written by Erlend himself). So this week's set didn't quite turn out the way I wanted. An hour before my set was scheduled I got hit by the iOS8/iTunes 12 syncing bug, which necessitated a complete nuking of my library. To even get tracks on to my iPad, I needed to do a full restore. Which of course also meant deleting any built up metadata: key, tempo and cue-point information. I ended up getting my music synced over, but none of that useful metadata. So for this one I had to lean back on my non-digital DJ skills. It's a bit rougher in some of the transitions that I'd normally like (especially some bad key changes), but for a flying by the seat of my pants sets I'm overall happy. It's got some orthodox programming, starting off with my favourite Beatles remix of all time, moving on to a good chunk of classic hip hop, some mashups and ending up at tropical house.
