Episode 007--Jay Demerit: Competitive Mindset- "Act As If"
Today Jay and I discuss the multi-sport athlete vs. specialization debate and how it relates specifically to young Soccer players in the United States. We talk about Jay's "Act As If" principle which was a culmination of mental training techniques he experienced while he was playing for Watford FC in the English Championship and Premiership. Jay breaks it down and explains how and when to use it effectively to help you achieve greatness. We then go into how athletes (or human beings in general) can better prepare for success and seize the opportunity when it comes. Other topics we touch on: -Mentally preparing to play against Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney and others. -Teaching young players to be more well-rounded people to set themselves up for success later in life. Episode 006--Jack Blake and the Realities of Professional Soccer in the US
Show Notes This episode I sat down with Jack Blake and discussed his development/path through the Nottingham Forrest Academy system from the age of 10 until he was 21 years old. We cover some of the differences of the English Academy system vs. US Youth Development. Jack reveals some of the real-life stories and behind the scenes hardships that come along with being a professional footballer on a day-to-day basis. We get into the nitty-gritty details of what happened to players, families, contracts etc. when the NASL folded. We also talk about Jack's new Youtube Channel, The Life of a Professional Footballer. A LOT of great insights in this one, you'll definitely want to listen the whole way through! Jack Blake Bio Jack is a 23-year-old, English product out of Nottingham. He started in the Nottingham Forest Academy system at the age of 10 and left at 21. He came over to the United States in 2016 where he signed for Minnesota United in NASL then went on to play for the Jacksonville Armada in 2017 where he was named NASL Young Player of the Year. After the NASL folded at the end of the 2017 Season, Jack was sent on loan to USL side, Tampa Bay Rowdies where he currently plays. Today I'm speaking with the Pennsylvania native and MLS analyst and contributor, Bobby Warshaw. Bobby was a 3-year captain at Stanford University playing 4 years total for the Cardinal and was drafted 17th overall in the 2011 SuperDraft by FC. Dallas. Bobby went on to play 6 years in the pro ranks both in the United States and in Europe. He was also a member of the U17 Men's National Team in 2005 and is the author of the book, "When the Dream Became Reality" which is an in-depth, no-nonsense look at his soccer career both on and off the field. Today I am speaking with former professional soccer player, ACL Club owner and Colorado Rapids show host, Jordan Angeli. Jordan and I have an in-depth conversation about injuries and pragmatic, dependable ways to not only endure them but thrive through the process. She also was a member of the U20 Women's National Team in 2005 and 2006 where she played in the U20 World Cup in Papau New Guinea. After her playing career, Jordan became a Sports Broadcast Analyst and is currently the Game Host, Radio Analyst and Social Media Host for the Colorado Rapids.
