BONUS: Leave Me Alone With the Recipes
One morning, at an antiquarian book fair in San Franciso, a couple of friends—one a food writer and the other an illustrator—discovered a gorgeous but mysterious, hand-illustrated book of traditional Eastern European recipes. The artwork and lettering made it clear that book’s author was extremely talented, but her name—Cipe Pineles—didn’t ring any bells. But it should have: she was one of the twentieth-century’s most important female designers. This episode, we follow along on the quest to understand who Cipe Pineles was, why she’s been forgotten, and the stories hidden in her rediscovered recipes.
