EP:135 | Ducks, Dogs, Mud, and Tears
This week we send off duck season in style with some of our favorite duck stories, great duck hunting advice and insight into imprinting waterfowl. At the end Chris Paradise and Dudley tell a couple of stories that will make the hair on your arms stand up. These are chilling spiritual experiences experienced by lifelong friends and family in a duck blind. They left us speechless and with eyes watering. We are joined by Spence Halford, Brooks Tinsley, Bill Gibson, Mark Prudhome, Bill Sugg and Chris Paradise as we celebrate the duck season. It’s one you don’t want to miss. EP:134 | Restoring Native Habitat with Kyle Lybarger & Jake Brown
This week on the GameKeeper Podcast we’re excited to have finally had Kyle Lybarger and Jake Brown from The Native Habitat Project in the studio – where we covered as many bases as we could on native and non-native flora, wildlife habitat, burning, savannahs and other ecosystems, and more. We got downright philosophical and really “nerded out” on some cool topics, like:  what did the landscape look like 500 years ago, and how can we achieve that look again, but what would be your modern tweaks?, and what if ole Smokey The Bear never entered the picture?. We all made new friends, and learned something as well. EP:133 | A Duck Hunter's Nightmare (Bonus Episode)
This week we get serious and hear a duck hunting story that came awfully close to having a bad ending. Like many of us want to do, Jason Cook found himself duck hunting during a major freeze up. When his dog fell through the ice on a long retrieve and couldn’t get out…like all of us would, he started to his dog in attempt to save him. It's a perilous situation and when Jason falls through the ice himself and can’t touch bottom, it gets even worse. We recorded this podcast hoping to remind duck hunters how dangerous things can get and what to do in case you find yourself in a bad situation.  This is one you might want to share with a friend. Listen, Learn and Stay Safe.    Support the show Stay connected with GameKeepers: Instagram: @mossyoakgamekeepers Facebook: @GameKeepers Twitter: @MOGameKeepers YouTube: MossyOakGameKeepers Website: Mossy Oak GameKeeper

EP:132 | Calling Coyotes
This week we discuss the art of calling coyotes. Expert caller Jon Collins of FOXPRO joins us to explain the many calls and techniques he has learned through years of chasing the crafty critters. Ole Wiley is found in every area of the country, and as Gamekeepers we worry about our fawns and turkeys.  We all knew they are formidable predators, but we learn they're susceptible to calling year round and it takes skill to regularly kill them. It’s an interesting discussion. By the way, do you pronounce it ki-yote or ki-yo-te? EP:131 | Arrowheads & Artifacts from the Original Gamekeepers
This week we welcome Jessica Crawford, an incredibly knowledgeable Archaeologist hailing from The Archaeological Conservancy, to discuss all things related to our Native American cultures spanning from thousands of years ago to present day. What type of tools did they use and how did they make them? What site types did they inhabit? Did they practice any type of gamekeeping similar to how we do it today? Where do I look for artifacts, and what is ethical and/or legal means of doing so, and how do I properly document them? What do I do if I find a “site” or “mound” on my property? We also shared a couple of stories about the dark side of artifact collecting. Jessica and her family come from a long line of hardcore hunters and farmers, making her a perfect fit for this discussion we’ve been wanting to have for quite some time. Listen, Learn, and Enjoy!!! EP:129 | Taxidermy: Remembering the Hunt
On this week’s episode we talk about taxidermy and how it’s been a part of our culture for many years. Who hasn’t seen a big deer head hanging on a wall and wanted one for their own? It’s a way to pay tribute to the animal and to an especially memorable hunt.  Guest Rett Kelly of Kelly Taxidermy has been in the business for over fifty years and knows a thing or two about it. EP:128 | Frozen Food Plots (BONUS EPISODE)
In this BONUS episode, in the wake of the recent record cold temperatures, we help Gamekeepers understand what has occurred to their food plots and why many are dead. It’s been the worst fall and winter we can remember for plots starting with the drought and ending with the unrelenting, single-digit temps for multiple days. These conditions have been brutal. Guests Dustin Wiseman and Mitt Wardlaw, both plant specialists, advise farmers daily and they explain to us just what happens to a plant when temps plunge into single digits overnight. We are reminded, Gamekeeping ain’t easy. EP:122 | We Apologize to the Squirrel
This week we humbly apologize to the squirrel. Across the whitetail’s range, our collective love of deer and deer hunting has made many of us forget about what once was a very strong hunting tradition. We don’t want to spook our deer, so we’ve backed away from roaming the woods in pursuit of bushy tails. Squirrels are a challenging target, live in beautiful hardwood habitats and can be fantastic table fare. On this podcast, super squirrel hunter George Brown helps remind us what we have been missing.  Warning: whether you’re a seasoned hunter, or are just getting into the sport – this one will make you want to break day leaning against an old oak tree with a .22 rifle by your side. Be sure and check out the outstanding squirrel and dumplings recipe in the show notes.  Listen, Learn and Enjoy! EP:120 | Hunting Accidents Can Happen
This week we have three uniformed Mississippi game wardens in the studio, reminding us to be safe this hunting season with stories of other hunters who weren’t. After years of repetition it’s easy to become complacent, get in a rut and take for granted the things we need to do to stay safe in tree stands and around firearms.  This podcast is a shocking reminder to wear your safety belt, unload your weapon before you cross a fence, let someone know where you’re going, wear a life jacket in the duck boat, and much more. It’s one you will want to share with younger and new hunters and a great refresher for the seasoned. Listen, Learn and Stay Safe. EP:119 | Understanding Duck Migration
This week we sit down and talk ducks with Dr. Ryan Askren, a waterfowl ecologist/researcher from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and the legendary Jim Ronquest from Drake Waterfowl Systems.  There is much to learn about the migration habits from the data that GPS transmitters have provided. We also dig deep into habitat, forage preferences, nocturnal instincts, and many other questions duck hunters ask around the campfire.  We also key in on the management of red oaks and their importance in the wetland areas. EP:118 | Advanced Food Plots - The Science Behind Biologic and its Origins in New Zealand
This week, we take a deep dive into where and how brassicas (including radishes) and certain clovers have been developed. Long time New Zealand seedsman, Stephen Bennett, of the 100 plus year old seed company, PGG Wrightson Nutrition, explains the whole story. The science PGG Wrightson has put behind these plants is nothing short of impressive, and there are many questions answered. EP:116 | Why a Gamekeeper Needs a Suppressor
This week we have an interesting discussion about how suppressors can help Gamekeepers manage their properties. We have always preached how important it is to reduce pressure and noise pollution and suppressors can really help a Gamekeeper do that. Especially when having to harvest a high number of does to meet management objectives. The guys from Nosler and our own local expert explain the whole process to us from how to purchase, the geometry of sizes, how suppressors work, what ammo works best for hunting, subsonic ammo and can they help save your hearing.  Do you have a lot of does to shoot? Have a small place and worry about pressure? Just like the idea of being quieter?  This informative podcast is for you.
