7. From Then To Now - John 'Jughead' Jones

Welcome back to a new year of the From Then To Now podcast. We hope you had a good holiday break and enjoyed our two cricket specials with former Test bowlers Mike Whitney and Gavin Robertson. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to them, make sure you go and listen to to our chats with two of the best storytellers in Australian sport. In the seventh episode of From Then To Now, we chat to Manly Sea Eagles and Gold Coast Crushers cult hero, John ‘Jughead’ Jones. Jones was a knockabout bloke who made his name as a tough forward from the Northern Beaches. He is best known for finishing runner up in the 1992 Rothmans Medal to Allan Langer, the equivalent of today’s Dally M. We caught up with Jughead to chat about how close he was to the medal, coming through the junior ranks at Manly, why rugby league is destined to fail on the Gold Coast and plenty more.
