S1:E2 | Meet Laura + Special Guest Hillary: Creating an Empowered Birth
In this episode, we introduce Mothership Health Partner Laura, a mom of 3, childbirth educator, and doula who provides birthing persons with physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and after birth. We also meet special guest Hillary, a mom of 2 who gave birth to her second baby in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in Long Island, NY. Laura shares about her journey to becoming a doula and founding The Nesting Place support and wellness center for moms. Hlilary shares about her two different birth experiences, a hospital birth several years ago and a home birth during the pandemic. Together we explore what it means to have an empowered birth and the importance of informed choice and finding a healthcare provider that involves you in decision-making about your care. You can also find more information about creating an empowered birth experience in Laura’s virtual Childbirth Education 101 class.  Mothership is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing credible, relatable, and empathetic health resources to parents and caregivers. S1:E1 | Meet Johane: Food as Medicine + Black Representation in Nutrition
In this inaugural episode, we introduce Mothership Health Partner Johane Filemon, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Anti-Inflammatory Therapist, and mom of 4 boys. She shares about her journey to becoming a nutrition expert from her love of food and her family's Afro-French culinary background in Haiti to how the medicinal power of food inspires her work, especially after a personal experience with healing her body with food. As a black American in a field where less than 3% of her profession is black, she also talks about why there needs to be more diverse voices in the nutrition field. And, she describes how she adds her voice with a Podcast, YouTube channel, and social media, teaching us how to cook healthy meals, how to garden, and about important nutrition topics relevant to the black community and beyond.
