S1:E1 | Meet Johane: Food as Medicine + Black Representation in Nutrition
In this inaugural episode, we introduce Mothership Health Partner Johane Filemon, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Anti-Inflammatory Therapist, and mom of 4 boys. She shares about her journey to becoming a nutrition expert from her love of food and her family's Afro-French culinary background in Haiti to how the medicinal power of food inspires her work, especially after a personal experience with healing her body with food. As a black American in a field where less than 3% of her profession is black, she also talks about why there needs to be more diverse voices in the nutrition field. And, she describes how she adds her voice with a Podcast, YouTube channel, and social media, teaching us how to cook healthy meals, how to garden, and about important nutrition topics relevant to the black community and beyond. Mothership is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing credible, relatable, and empathetic health resources to parents and caregivers. Mothership believes that getting the health information and support you want should be as easy as turning to a friend you trust. Support the show (https://www.ourmothership.org/donate)
