Hurricane season just started june 1st - are you prepared? We talk with Jeff Goldberg from Walton County Emergency Management to find out how to be prepared for what comes next.
In this episode of the Freeport Insider podcast we sit down with Jeff Goldberg. Jeff is the Director of Emergency Management for Walton County FL.As Jeff says he is the one that gets blamed when something goes wrong lol!June 1st marked the beginning of Hurricane season and with Michael still impacting much of our neighbors in Bay county I wanted to make sure that everyone in Freeport had the knowledge and resources to be properly prepared for what comes next!1) Have a plan. This was where i fell short. I thought I was prepared but was I? Your plan should include but not limited to the following.Know what evacuation zone you are inKnow your evacuation routeKnow where the local shelters are locatedEstablish a family plan, kids, animals all need to be included in your planEstablish Hurricane meeting places in your home, in your neighborhood, in your town, and out of town. If the big one happens and you can't get home where do you meet up?Important contact numbers, Doctors, Vet, Utilities etc. For help with your plan check out these linkshttps://apps.floridadisaster.org/getaplan/https://floridadisaster.org/family-plan/2)Build your kit. Many people suggest 72 hours of supplies, Jeff says to extend that to 5-7days of essentials. Food, water (1 gallon/person/day), battery/hand crank radio, flashlights, medications, first aid, sensible clothes (flip flops are not the best disaster footwear). For help with building out your kit check out this linkhttps://floridadisaster.org/planprepare/disaster-supply-kit/3)Be informed.Sign up for local emergency updates at alertwalton.orgFollow the https://www.facebook.com/WaltonCountyEM/ page and make sure you turn on the notifications!4)Get involved.Walton County Emergency offers CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) to help better prepare our residents for a wide array of potential threats.Volunteer to staff shelters. When the time comes we will need all the help we can get to ensure the best possible outcome. Please consider volunteering and helping your community. Freeport INsider Podcast | Episode #007 Groundbreaking event for the new Freeport McDonalds
The Johnstone family has officially begun construction on the new Freeport McDonalds. I had the pleasure of meeting with Tracy Johnstone at a recent Freeport Merchants Association function. Tracy and her family have been in the McDonalds business since the '60s and sound like they run a pretty tight ship. Bringing over 60 new jobs to Freeport and Spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5M on the construction this is a wonderful addition to the City. It is also a big RED and YELLOW signal flare to other businesses that Freeport is a location they should consider.

Freeport Insider Podcast | Episode #005 The Tide Raises ALL Ships
In this episode I talk to a few comments I have heard recently from local business owners. Explain that coming from an Abundance mindset, rather than a mindset of Scarcity, is crucial. That no matter the industry there is enough business to go around and that together we will grow a better future. Don't let life happen TO YOU, make if happen FOR YOU....everything is not FALLING APART, its FALLING IN TO PLACE!
