119b - Stolen Blessing? (Lightning Breakdown)
We did a cold open! Live* from Brentford, it's The Lightning Breakdown! Rob and Steve chat about Cricket, NASCAR and van der Graaf generators ... and also more important things too. Rob breaks down the latest sermon in Immanuel's series in Genesis, helping us to think through some of the biggest truths that run through scripture. What more do you want? *Not really live. Recorded, in fact. So kind of the opposite of being live. But that doesn't work so well as a cultural reference.

They're a cultural reference, right?). Rob Ilderton and Steve Clark discuss Rob's sermon from Sunday, this time looking at Isaac. We chat about the frustrations of real life following God, and the best time to call the grandparents.

Bonus 001 - Resilience with Mark Snelling
As the UK is undergoing another lockdown, we thought we'd offer a treat! In a special bonus edition, listen in to a seminar given by Mark Snelling, a member of Immanuel Brentford, on resilience in traumatic situations. It was originally recorded on 29 April 2020 as the UK was deep into the first national lockdown early in the COVID-19 Pandemic. Mark is a psychotherapist, with expertise in trauma and issues assoicated with major humanitarian and crisis situations, including heavy involvement in the psychological fallout of the Ebola epidemic. In the midst of a pandemic, what Mark has to say is incredibly relevant, with insight into what impact it has on our mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, and giving us the tools and vocabularly to recognise understand what is happening right now, as well as a biblical framework to engage with the peculiar mental health issues arising from living through strange and strained times. This episode contains Mark's talk - for a copy of the slides and the full session (including Q&A), head over to https://ipc.church/project/resilience/.

110b - Not Your Normal Nativity Play (Lightning Breakdown)
What we listen to shapes reality around us - what we think is plausible, or good, or valuable. It sometimes happens obviously, but most of the time it's quiet and subtle. And the most reshaped reality is what we believe Christmas is about. This week, Steve and Rob breakdown the fourth of our Advent sermons - Luke 2:1-21, perhaps the most well known true story in history with mangers and shepherds and angels and all the rest. It's upside down week as Rob takes the wheel and Steve answers the questions, touching on being Social Media influencers, watching the Muppets' Christmas Carol and listening to primary school children play the recorder. But also much more important things.

109b - Preparing The Way And Preparing Our Hearts (Lightning Breakdown)
The Justice League of Brentford ... if Stuart's Batman and Rob's Robin (his words), what does that make the rest of us? Rob, a self-professed superfan of Coldplay, returns this week to break down the third sermon in our Advent series from Luke's gospel, where he covered Baby Yoda and Baby John the Baptist. He's just a goldmine of pop culture.
