Lindsay Chapman: The Magic of The Music
‘It’s important to remind yourself where you want the music to go, and how you make it from your heart.’ - Lindsay Chapman Originally from Brisbane, growing up mucking about on 'dad's guitar', it was a desire to study music and make a living that bought Lindsay to Melbourne. I first met charismatic performer him performing outside the State Library in Melbourne. I was immediately transported by his mastery of what he was doing. Exceptional at handling the technical challenges of live looping, he created beautiful original compositions that deeply considered elements of sonic processing and arrangement. I was super stoked when he agreed to come in and discuss his journey. The interview Lindsay discusses: the exhilerating/overwhelming experience of playing in the throng of a Melbourne tram stop. what inspires his lyricism. his approach to musical creativity, including some of his performance secrets. his thoughts on the disconnect between what artists perform and what they sell. the healing power of music. his ideas about staying positive and passionate when making a living out of art. Lindsay's band (previous): Who’s This https://whosthisband.com/ Equipment: Boss RC 505 looper http://looperpedalreviews.com/boss-rc-505-loop-station-review/ Special Guest: Lindsay Chapman .

Miriam Ceh: The Magic of Theatre
After watching Miriam perform numerous times on Melbourne's Bourke Street, I tentatively handed her a written note asking if she'd consider joining me for a chat. Thankfully she replied positively and then found a hot minute to come down to the Victorian College of The Arts to talk art, life and laughter. I hope you find her considered and thoughtful observations of life and creativity as illuminating as I did. During the conversation, Miriam discusses: how she 'found' her role as an angel (which she's been performing for over 20 years). some of the amazing life experiences she's had whilst busking. the importance of tapping into your imagination. how to balance meaning making through creativity, identity and work. the necessity of laughter to life. It was during our interview that I learnt Miriam had been performing for over two decades, and was a founding member of Kinetic Theatre. Originating on the streets of Fremantle in 1996, Kinetic is now based in Melbourne, Australia, and consists of a versatile troupe of performers whose training includes mime, stage acting, physical theatre, puppetry, improvisation, clowning, and costume design. Kinetic Theatre https://www.kinetictheatre.com/angelic Part of the mission behind the creation of the Follow The Magic podcast, is to encourage my listeners into the act of discovery. To allow ourselves to be present and open to inspiration, especially that which comes to us from a place that is perhaps unfamiliar and unexpected, and to permit oneself to follow the intuition that says ‘maybe I don’t understand this, but I can recognise it and it’s affecting me, and I'm curious and open to change.' Special Guest: Miriam Ceh .

Honeyboy Des: The Magic of The Blues
Des Kennedy known as Honeyboy Des, is an extremely likeable man. Humble, down to earth and calm in nature, his message is one that encourages you to follow your dreams, and is sprinkled with gentle wisdom throughout. Self confessed as 'totally blues', Des struck me as a life long learner and philosopher, someone who is constantly searching for meaning and ways to keep growing as a person. Born in the Andaman islands, schooled in the Nilgiri hills of southern India, he originally emigrated to Australia as a chef, before being taken over by a passion for blues music and a desire to follow that dream and develop a career as an independent artist. During the conversation we discuss: The origin of his stage name 'Honeyboy Des'. How he got hooked on playing harmonica at age 30. His discovery of a secondhand cd in a stereo that led to his bluesman journey. His advice for overcoming the intimidation of stage fright when busking. The importance of gaining and feeling acceptance in life.
