ALOP - Appropriate Level of Protection. It's about Lower numbers of pests not Zero
This is a summary of the notes I took at the DAWR meeting held in Canberra on April 5th 2019. It explains what the Import Regulators approach is and what is trying to be achieved. Industry members all flew into Canberra for an afternoon with the Department to work out a way forward to ensure that Australia can meet its ALOP - Appropriate Level Of Protection. All comments and summaries are made by me, representing me & my thoughts only. ** The next Podcast will have 2 special guests sharing first hand experiences of what the regulations are doing & the impact they are having. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/flowerpodcast/message

Import Regulation Changes & what their impacts will be on Business
The Department is in charge of protecting Australia from Biosecurity Risks. Industry players want the Department to loosen up to enable trade with a balanced Risk approach. The Local Flower Growers want all Imports banned for the sake of our Countries Clean Environment. This issue is like an Onion. One that you have to peel one layer at a time. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/flowerpodcast/message

Imported V Australian Grown Flowers - Who Cares?
The March 1 Import Conditions change has caused massive inconvenience & supply timing difficulties for the Australian Companies that rely on Imported products to supply their customers. Does selling imported products make you more Un-Australian? Is this policy change just Protectionism by Government? Does anyone really care where things are grown or produced? This podcast covers some of the emotive topics that go into making up this debate. Growers always claim that they can't compete with the overseas labour costs but they don't reflect that it actually costs $5USD a kilo get a product landing into this country, so any perceived benefit of labour cost is dramtically lowered by transport costs to get the products to our Island. nick christensen is a proud Australian but he takes on the argument & the position that Imported products are needed and are good for the industry. A not to miss podcast that is sure to get your thoughts racing and your blood pumping. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/flowerpodcast/message
