Coming 2 America
It’s a very special day here on Fishnet Flix! We hit tha big 100, babys! And we’re celebrating our 100th episode with a trip back to Zamunda with Coming 2 America, the sequel to the 1998 Eddie Murphy comedy. Costumes are by our queen, Ruth E. Carter (Black Panther, B.A.P.S.), so you know there’s not a bad look in sight. We talk about our fave outfits, all the gold and animal-themed jewelry we’re adding to cart, and how we’ve come a long way since we started the pod (particularly, Blaire’s online shopping habit). Warning: we end the episode with a spontaneous and extremely chaotic Mini Brands unboxing.  Episode mentions & notes Listen to our episode on the first Coming to America (1988) Ruth E. Carter interview with Fashionista The Makeup and Hair on Coming 2 America on Vogue  Kae by Karrueche Jewelry Line The Soothing Allure of Mini Brands UOMA Beauty The Royal Edit (Coming 2 America collection) For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod.  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Romeo + Juliet
Where were you when you first saw Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio lock eyeballs through the fish tank in Romeo + Juliet? Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of the Shakespearean teenage tragedy is a hyper-stylized fever dream that we’re STILL obsessing over 25 years later. Costume designer Kym Barrett (The Matrix trilogy, Us, Aquaman) put Danes in those iconic angel wings while dressing the rival Montague and Capulet boy-gangs in a perfect contradiction of Hawaiian shirts and D&G. The movie, the costumes, and the soundtrack still hold up. Notes & Mentions: Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel doc on Netflix Fishnet Flix February Playlist

Waiting To Exhale
Today’s episode is on Waiting to Exhale, the Terry McMillan-novel-turned-1995 film starring the late, great Whitney Houston, alongside Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, and Loretta Devine as four friends living in Phoenix Arizona, looking for love in alllll the wrong f***boys. It’s a movie filled with as many irresistible lines as there are costumes — from designer Judy L. Ruskin (Sleepless in Seattle, Bruce Almighty) that are somehow both timeless and deliciously ’90s at the same time. We won’t blame you if you start quoting the movie nonstop (esp. Bernadette's fire-setting monologue), or listen to the iconique soundtrack (which was produced by Babyface, and features Brandy, SWV, and, of course, Whitney) all week long. We also discuss whether or not we should give The Wedding Planner another chance... Notes & Mentions: 1996 LA Times interview with Judy Ruskin Oral History of Waiting to Exhale on Zora Great piece on the costumes by Tarisai Ngangura for Jezebel  "Sittin' Up in My Room" Music video by Brandy for the film's soundtrack  For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
You know we couldn’t end Keanuary without Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure! While this 1989 movie may not be known for its costumes (especially as it takes place over just one day) the Bill and Ted look is easily recognizable, fun, and dare we say, relevant? The cropped sweatshirt look is definitely in these days, hello, Bill S. Preston, Esquire. Costumes are by Jill M. Ohanneson (Six Feet Under, Revenge, Preacher). In this episode, we talk about how a fashion historian uses the brief Beethoven scene as a benchmark for all Regency-era movies and debate whether or not teens still use binders. Also, Blaire realizes she’s never seen the 1993 erotic thriller, Sliver. For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com! Episode notes: The Bill & Ted test  Playboy x Missguided

Riding in Cars With Boys
It's the third week of Drewcember and we're Riding in Cars With Boys. This one has Drew playing teen mom Beverly (based on an IRL story) and it mostly takes place in the '60s, so there's some cute looks from costume designer Cynthia Flynt (A League of Their Own, Preacher's Wife). Plus it co-stars Brittany Murphy and we're sad this is the only movie she and Drew did together since they have the best chemistry.  For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Boys on the Side
For the second installment of Drewcember 2020, we’re doing Boys on the Side! Drew starred in this 1995 road trip, tearjerker of a movie alongside her longtime friend Whoopi Goldberg and Mary-Louise Parker. Drew’s outfits and hair in this movie exactly mirror her IRL style from the time ,which were a delight of course (even if the movie itself is questionable now). Costumes by Gloria Gresham (When Harry Met Sally, Footloose, Twins). For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Doppelganger
We're kicking off our third annual Drewcember with a WILD CARD...Doppelganger! This weird, lesser-known film from 1993 film stars our shero, Drew Barrymore, as a woman named Holly Gooding who moves to LA and claims she's being haunted by her evil, murderous doppelganger! Costume design by Kim Tillman (10 Things I Hate About You, Wild Things, Cougar Town). Tune in now for '90s flower dresses and sheer white tights galore, but more importantly, to help us make sense of this strange movie!  EPISODE NOTES: The Doppelganger Apartment on iamnotastalker.com For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod.  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Addams Family Values
It's a very special Thanksgiving episode! As per Fishnet Flix tradition, we're starting with a sequel: Addams Family Values, which we consider a holiday classic! Blaire and Marie discuss our favorite fashionably morbid fam, including a new addition, Joan Cusack as Debbie Jellinsky. Morticia may be aghast at her sartorial choices ("But, Debbie...pastels?") but we love the balance she brings to the traditional Addams goth palette. Costumes by the wonderful Theoni V. Aldredge, who dressed Moonstruck, Ghostbusters, The First Wives Club, and more. Tune in now! The Craft: Legacy
In this week’s episode (which is the final installment of our “Season of the Witch” series, we talk about our listeners’ movie-inspired Halloween costumes. Then, we discuss the new reboot of The Craft…and we’ve got a lot to say (warning: lots of spoilers)! If you listened to our episode of the original 1996 movie, you know that it meant a lot to us, so we don’t hold back on our general thoughts about The Craft: Legacy before going into the fashion. We talk about the special details that costume designer Avery Plewes (Ready or Not) put into each girl’s look (they were inspired by elements) and, by the end of the episode, play with the idea of doing a full month dedicated to Nic Cage. For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod.  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!

Four Rooms
We’re almost done with this month’s Season of the Witch series, but wanted to sneak in a special mini-episode! If you’ve ever seen the 1995 anthology film, Four Rooms, you know that there’s a segment directed by Allison Anders (Mi Vida Loca) about a coven of witches (including Madonna!) that gather in a hotel room on New Year’s Eve to resurrect their goddess, Diana. It’s short but sweet, and the costumes (by Susan L. Bertram and Mary Claire Hannan) are to die for. Blessed be! Show notes: Don't duct tape your boobs like Blaire did in the '90s...use Nue instead. Listen to our Mi Vida Loca episode. Our past witch movie episodes here: Practical Magic (1998) The Craft (1996)  Witches of Eastwick (1987) The Love Witch (2016) The Witches (2020) Teen Witch (1989) Hocus Pocus (1993) For visuals of the costumes, follow us on Instagram at @fishnetflixpod  DM or email your movie requests at info@fishnetflix.com!
