Ep023 - Valentine's Day Mixtape
On a very special episode of Finding Emo...The guys put together a mix tape of their favorite romantic mix tape jams from the genre. Plus, you get to hear about Kyle's incredibly awkward evening with Aaron Marsh from Copeland (it was all Kyle's fault).  Notes Finding Emo Valentine’s Day playlists!!! On Spotify and Apple Music Also, here’s one on Spotify you can add your own tunes to!  All of It - MXPX The Agreement - Lakes (or now Eager Seas) Pretend You’re Alive - Lovedrug New Acceptance album Wild, Free The Garth Brooks song mentioned is That Summer, but per Garth’s wishes you can only play it on CD or Vinyl, because it’s not on any streaming service.

Ep022 - The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most - Dashboard Confessional
We finally get around to doing a Dashboard Confessional album! Spoiler alert: we all have man-crushes on Chris Carraba.  Notes: The thing on the cover art Just a few 9 track albums that are great: Billy Joel - The Stranger, Peter Gabriel - So, Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic, American Football - LP1 & LP2, Coldplay - Ghost Stories…I’m just saying it’s possible.  Chris Carrabba’s Rig Rundown

Ep021 - Take This To Your Grave by Fall Out Boy
We'd be lying if we said Pete Wentz didn't get under our skin a little back in the day, but that doesn't take anything away from this being a heck of a debut album from Fall Out Boy.  Notes: Take This To Your Grave on Apple Music and Spotify JimmyEatWorldLive.com for Phoenix Sessions tickets Original artwork Show me what you got Rick & Morty clip Jack Black High Fidelity clip Deep thoughts from Kyle Joni Mitchell’s “new” version of Both Sides Now (which Blake thinks is a better version of the song. Not just because it makes him cry and not just because of Love Actually, either) Save Rock N Roll on Spotify Finding Emo Bingo card

Ep020 - Tell All Your Friends by Taking Back Sunday
Are Taking Back Sunday lyrics the most commonly tattooed emo lyrics? We think so. And we can see why, honestly. Listen to find out who's on Team Jesse, Team Adam, Team Nolan, and Team Edward (wait, sorry, that's something else...). Notes: Tell All Your Friends on Apple Music and Spotif y  By the way, the budget for the album was $10,000 and they did the whole thing in two weeks. So, yeah, it was pretty rushed we'd say.  Anxiously waiting with hands rubbing meme

Ep019 - Riot! by Paramore
For the final episode of 2020 (good riddance) we dive into Paramore's 2007 Sophomore album. We spend half of the episode complaining about the band's decision to not play Misery Business live anymore.  Notes: Sherwood's similar guitar hook intro to Hallelujah (predating it by a year) Natalie Merchant's Wonder video (and Bob's Burgers' cover ) The Whitest Light's (formerly Happy Endings) song Miracle (the best Miracle, in Blake and Kris' opinion) Captain Morgan's Holiday Miracle commercial. Also this one . And this one .

Ep018 - Stay What You Are by Saves The Day
Don't ask us why it took us 18 episodes to get to this classic. We don't have a good excuse. Saves The Day captured some serious magic with this album in 2001, and it's as good now as it ever was.  Notes: Stay What You Are on Apple Music and Spotif y  Ruston Kelly's cover of At Your Funeral The Moopets (They're no Muppets, but Dave Grohl is a member so...) Chris Farely interviewing Paul McCartney

Ep017 - Untitled by blink-182
Ok, so we lied about The Everglow being the next episode (for good reason, we promise). So instead we're wishing a Sweet 16 to blink-182's untitled/self-titled (argument to ensue) album from 2003.  Notes: Ken Andrew's Credits  Always Video  Robert Smith on the red carpet (just for fun)  Kris is sort of right...Mark does always refer to it as Untitled, but others still refer to it as blink-182 or self-titled. I guess it really doesn't matter, right?

Ep016 - Everything In Transit by Jack's Mannequin
Jack's Mannequin's debut coming-of-age masterpiece Everything In Transit came out 15 years ago, and Kris and Blake were fortunate enough to watch Andrew and his new band rock the whole thing front to back at a drive-in show over the weekend. After the drive home, they then hopped on the podcast to discuss the album with Kyle.  Notes Everything In Transit on Apple Music and Spotify Slipping Into The Airwaves Blog Dark Blue Video (which does not feature Tommy Lee, unfortunately) Dear Jack Foundation

Ep015 - Sing the Sorrow by AFI
Just in time for Halloween, we picked the most eye-linery band around, AFI, and their 2003 smash hit Sing the Sorrow. Kyle has determined this album to have, hands down, the most emo lyrics of all time and gives us his favorites, track by track. Twitter Facebook Instagram Email  Notes: Sing the Sorrow on Apple Music and Spotify AFI did not play Warped Tour in 2006 when Blake and Kris’ band played one stop in Kansas City, and Blake discovered his guitars stolen. Long story.  Fine, Kyle is correct about the beat being slightly different in Terminator 2, but it sounds very similar in tonality.  There are lots of Boss loop pedals. Kyle can’t be sure of which he saw, because he’s a bass player Album was recorded at Cello Studios in Los Angeles, CA By the way, Jerry Finn mixed the record

Ep014 - In Love and Death by The Used
We skip right ahead to The Used's sophomore album...not because their first one isn't deserving of an episode, but just because we really like this one and IT'S OUR PODCAST!  Follow us on Twitter , Facebook , and Instagram at @findingemopod Notes: In Love and Death on Apple Music and Spotify John Feldmann’s production credits In Love and Death was released on Reprise It’s a jam for me, dudes

Ep013 - Commit This To Memory by Motion City Soundtrack
Motion City Soundtrack made the happiest music with the saddest lyrics. On this episode we cover their sophomore (and breakout) album, Commit This To Memory. It's solid!  Notes Commit This To Memory on Apple Music and Spotify (and Vinyl, in case you’re interested) A supercut of actors saying the name of the movie in the movie (including Clear and Present Danger) Limbeck’s fantastic Hi, Everything’s Great album It’s all Jay Leno’s fault (which we incorrectly remembered being sang on Conan O’Brien’s show, but it was actually on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Memory is weird, y’all). New Single on Spotify Blake can’t find any mention of L.G. Fuad as fully spelled out on the internet, but it’s weird that both he and Kris’ original iTunes import are fully spelled out. Who knows?! 3 Amigos clip The “Made You Look” game Blake referenced visually (sorry, he forgot it’s a podcast) is this one. 👌 MADE YOU LOOK! L.G. Fuad, Everything is Alright videos Next Episode - The Used - In Love and Death

Ep012 - Say Anything ...Is A Real Boy
It's our first contentious episode where everyone doesn't love the album. "But guys, EVERYONE loved this album!", you say. Not so. Apparently one of our hosts is the only person alive that didn't like it. Listen to find out who it is!  Tweet @emo_podcast / Facebook @findingemopod / info@findingemopod.com / Instagram @findingemopod  Notes We just couldn’t get around this episode being explicit due to some of the lyrics. It’s all in the song clips, so earmuffs (if applicable)! Also, we had some technical difficulties on this one so apologies for Kris and Kyle’s voices not sounding quite as sexy and high-quality as they normally do. …Is A Real Boy on Apple Music and Spotify Tim O’Heir’s All Music credits (since he somehow doesn’t have a Wikipedia page) Kris and Blake’s band, Minutes Too Far, were distributed by Doghouse and, in fact, featured a very slightly out of tune acoustic guitar on their track Quit Your Hardcore Band (While You Still Can) (around the 2:15 mark) Kris’ AMAZING birthday present for Blake this year (we both LOVE The Darkness) Listen to Commit This To Memory by Motion City Soundtrack (Apple Music / Spotify) before our next episode comes out!

Ep011 - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance
If My Chemical Romance's Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge album isn't a definitive early 2000s emo record, we don't know what else would possibly qualify. The music, lyrics, outfits, swagger, makeup...it really defined the genre.  Notes Screw it. We’re just gonna use @emo_podcast on Twitter. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge on Apple Music and Spotify Howard Benson’s Discography Quote from Gerard Way about the concept of the album (unfortunately, Reddit didn’t site the source) Pitchfork article “I’m Not Okay” music video “Helena” music video (another Marc Webb directed video, by the way) “Helena” is pronounced…hel-AY-nuh. Ep010 - Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Let's talk about punk rock with a violin! Specifically, Yellowcard's super successful Ocean Avenue album. Spoiler alert: Blake doesn't shut up about how much he like's all of Yellowcard's bridges in their songs.  Ocean Avenue on Spotify and Apple Music The OKC Green Door show was Oct 22, 2003 and Ocean Avenue was released on radio Dec 16, 2003, for reference. Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) directed the Ocean Avenue music video, which is awesome. Ben Harper went on to be the founder and CEO of Takeover Records Ryan Key’s vocal surgery was between Lights and Sounds and Paper Walls, and their hiatus was 2008-2010 between Paper Walls and When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes albums. This is when he did his Big If side project, as well. Maybe Ryan Key uses the Silicon Valley “Middle Out” methodology for writing bridges? (Hilarious, but very NSFW) Only One Video (he puts the flower in a gun, by the way. Not a tank, as Kyle kept claiming. But standing in front of the tank as if he’s the guy in Tiananmen Square is so cringe-worthy we can’t believe they thought it was a good idea). Kris kept messing up the lyrics of the “Believe” bridge, which are “Want to hold my wife when I get home” Blake was a little wrong. The speech in the background of Believe is a combined speech on the 1st anniversary of 9/11 between Michael Bloomberg and NY Governor George Patki. The part in the bridge is Bloomberg, and the end of the song is Pataki reading the Gettysburg Address. As much as Blake likes history, he’s really beating himself up for not recognizing that last line as being from maybe the most famous speech in American history. If saying “Californ-i-a” good enough for Dr. Dre, it’s good enough for Blake.

Ep009 - Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo by MXPX
Kyle and Kris are huge MXPX fans. Blake, not so much. Truth be told, he listened to this album for the first time the day of the episode recording. Therefore, he's clueless as to what constitutes an appropriate MXPX tattoo (don't worry, Kris and Kyle set him straight).

Ep008 - Based On A True Story by The Starting Line
On this episode we talk about The Starting Line’s underrated sophomore effort, Based On A True Story. While the lead single originally left a very very bad taste in Kris and Blake’s collective mouths, they’ve since come around to realizing what Kyle knew all along; this album is a masterpiece. Note: While this is technically edited to be “clean”, we do talk at length about the song Bedroom Talk so maybe skip that part if you’ve got kids in the car? K. Show Notes: Based On A True Story on Spotify and Apple Music A&M got merged into Universal back in 1999 Jason Tate’s original Absolutepunk.net review of the album Kris wasn’t wrong - Autography literally means “Autobiography” The Harden GIF (pronounced with a hard G, by the way). One of the best, for sure.

Ep007 - The All-American Rejects' Self-Titled Album
The guys talk about their fellow Oklahomies, The All-American Rejects, and their self-titled debut album from 2002. And what a pop-tastic album it is, indeed!  Note: Our Twitter account is still suspended, so hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, or at info@findingemopod.com  Split versions of songs The All-American Rejects were actually never featured on the TV show, Scrubs - Side note, the day after we recorded this episode, Sam Lloyd, who played Ted the lawyer on the show, died. :( Mark Hoppus’ tweet about writing the lyrics “She Said” all the time The mid-tempo ballads Blake was specifically thinking about from the 2006 show he and Kris were at were Straightjacket Feeling and It Ends Tonight The word “away” appears 31 times on this album. The words “a way” also appear 6 times. That averages out to 3.36 times per song.  While editing, Blake realized that “singularily” is not a word. He apologizes.  Happy Endings was not a single. Blake’s dumb.  They do play Happy Endings live, but much earlier in the set than we would’ve thought.  Tyson’s interview about The Last Song, written in the 11th hour in the studio for this album Blake’s memory wasn’t completely wrong. They did, in fact, play The Last Song before the encore the last time he saw AAR live.

Ep006 - Your Favorite Weapon by Brand New
For those complaining the podcast doesn't have enough drama, do we have an episode for you! Okay, so maybe it's not as much drama as there ever was between Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, but let's just say our feelings for Brand New and their debut album Your Favorite Weapon are complicated.  Note re: t-shirt review contest - Don't tweet us, as we're still suspended. Instead, email info@findingemopod.com or hit us up on facebook.com/findingemopod Show notes: Spotify and Apple Music Universal Warehouse fire of 2008 - For those that aren’t aware, film and tape is suuuuuper flammable.  Referenced and incredibly well written Stereogum article Album Sales - Prior to 2011 reissue, it had sold over 315,000. So, not Gold (500,000).  Lyric count of Failure By Design vs Seventy Times 7 - Not counting the repeated lyrics of chorus’, Failure has 284 words and Seventy has 382. For comparison, blink-182’s The Party has 361. Also, for comparison Blake’s wordiest song he ever wrote has 179 words (what a slacker).  Blake's not completely crazy - While putting the episode together, he came across this image of the original artwork with the title of Soco Amaretto Lime mispelled, but can't find any documentation of the typo on the internet.

Ep005 - The Moon Is Down by Further Seems Forever
The fellas talk about Chris Carabba's pre-Dashboard Confessional band (or mid-Dashboard band, depending how you look at the timeline), Further Seems Forever and their debut album, The Moon Is Down. Spoiler alert: We all have man-crushes on Chris Carabba. The Moon Is Down on Spotify and Apple MusicEasiest fact check ever - Chris Carabba and Carrabba’s Italian Grill aren’t even spelled the same! What is the tempo of Pictures of Shorelines? 189 BPMSnowbirds and Townies videoThe lead singer of Gin Blossoms, in fact, is not dead. Their original guitarist/songwriter tragically committed suicide shortly after Hey Jealousy became a hit for the band, which he was already kicked out of by the A&M at the label due to his heavy drinking. Forgive our memories…it was 1993. We knew someone important had died. Also, we were like 11 at the time. How to Start a Fire - The Sound videoSummers Kiss EP by Dashboard Confessional

Ep004 - Something To Write Home About by The Get Up Kids
Here's one that's on everyone's top 20 emo albums. The Get Up Kids' Something To Write Home About is a classic. And yes, we realize we've done more 90s albums than 2000s at this point. Show notes:Something to Write Home About - Spotify & Apple MusicArticle Kris mentioned - Stereo Gum Fenix Tx - All My Fault (Spotify)On A Wire live energy inspiring Guilt Show’s songsPee-Wee’s Big Adventure clip Kyle’s right. Big Blue Monkey was Story of the Year’s first band name. We don’t know why Blake put the part about “Balls” in there…
