FilmSnobbery Podcast – Episode 10
https://filmsnobbery.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/FilmSnobberyPodcastEpisode10_12020218-1.mp3 After a couple weeks of downtime to digest from the Thanksgiving holiday, co-host Devin Watson and host Nic LaRue are back with another fun episode covering the recently released official feature selections of the Sundance and Slamdance film festivals to be held in Park City, Utah in the late December. They converse on the differences of the two fests, how Sundance tends to be more reactive in their inclusion of diverse films and filmmakers, while Slamdance has had a track record of including new voices from the start. They also talk about the news of how IFC went behind the MPAA’s back with their new film, “The House That Jack Built”, and screened the unrated version without obtaining a waiver first. They wax on how broken the MPAA system actually is, and also who’s job it might be on the starship Enterprise to clean up the holodeck after someone spends a little “me time” in there. FilmSnobbery Podcast – Episode 9
https://filmsnobbery.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/FilmSnobberyPodcastEpisode9_11192018.mp3 Hey everyone, Happy Thanksgiving! We aren’t able to do our traditional episode of The FilmSnobbery Podcast for you today due to family commitments, but what we were able to dig up was a talk that host Nic LaRue gave way back in 2011 at SXSW called “Your Baby Is Ugly”. This seminar dealt with the topic of evaluating your film honestly and delves a bit into marketing and distribution as well. To our knowledge, it hasn’t been heard since 2011 when it was done live. Hope you enjoy it, and we hope to be back again next week with another exciting episode! Please rate and subscribe to our podcast on iTunes! Listen to our podcast on Stitcher! Another topic of discussion deals with the recent and sudden departure of the founders of the Napa Valley Film Festival, which just concluded this weekend. We discuss the cost of this particular festival and get into the details of how festivals make and generally spend their money. Please rate and subscribe to our podcast on iTunes! https://filmsnobbery.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/FilmSnobberyPodcast10192018.mp3 Hi folks! We’re back with another action-packed episode where we talk about the breaking news of film festival submission engine Withoutabox closing down, what this means for rival Film Freeway, and also what it means to filmmakers around the world. This was a fun episode to record because both co-host Devin Watson and host Nic LaRue have had previous experience dealing with the shortcomings of Withoutabox, and were extremely amused to find this information out. Complete with a new co-host, filmmaker and author Devin Watson (Jerry Cavallaro is now considered out-of-canon in the FilmSnobbery Expanded Universe), we talk about using ingenuity to solve filmmaking problems, creating something from nothing with 3D printing, living in Los Angeles, and how people touching my groceries makes my spider sense tingle.
