Film & TV Show
63 minutes | Nov 26, 2018
Alex and I take a look at a dying genre of film; the Western. We take a look at the works of 2 of the finest gunslingers to ever grave the screen; John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and discuss their respective works before moving onto the more modern incarnations of the Western film, looking at how the dynamic of the films genre has changed and how Hollywood has forgotten the essence of the genre. We look at what can be done to revive the genre, who we would like to see in lead roles and the types of films the genre is crying out for in the modern cinema world. We throw in some excellent facts about John Wayne, Eastwood and a few others as well as looking over some of the best films out there to watch back, to really get the feel of a great Western film. Alex and I also argue over a specific film that he feels fits into Western genre, but that I personally feel has absolutely no merit in which to do so!

After the sad news that broke just before last weeks show, Alex and I thought it only fitting to dedicate this show to the man who almost singlehandedly changed peoples views on taboo topics, as well as the cinema world, with his well crafted, humanised characters with superhero traits, Mr Stan Lee. As the world mourns the loss of such a figurehead, we talk about the life of the man, his creations and the impact they have had on many many people in the world, and what his cinematic and comic creations have added to the lives of their fans. Not every superhero has a cape or super powers, some have a pencil, a pad and an idea.

Alex & I delve into the films of Mr Explosion, Michael Bay. The man who can single handedly make a reason to just blow something up for the sake of it! We look at some of his most popular films, and discover that some of the most popular in his catalogue were actually rated terribly by Rotton Tomatoes, leading us to go on a tirade about RT! I also lobby for Armageddon being one of his best films, whilst Alex vehemently disagrees. We look at his impact on Hollywood, and how his films are viewed by both critics and the ordinary cinemagoer, looking at why they fare so much stronger with normal people, as opposed to the cretins at The Academy. We also get teary about Stan Lee passing away, minutes before our show went live, as well as a few secrets being revealed by myself, much to Alex's disgust! And not forgetting some amazing songs found in Mr Bay's films.

We also go off on a tangent that starts at Halloween takes a trip through Thanksgiving & Black Friday and ends up with Michael Bay! We also give our opinions on some frightfully awesome TV series to get your teeth into as well as delve into just why Horror movies are sluggish and seemingly struggling for audiences, looking at the rise of TV series taking the coverted audiences and keeping people away from the cinema. We finally give our Top 5 Horror films to test your metal against!

Interview with Author Rob Radcliffe
I am delighted to have been able to interview; and chat to, one of my genuine favourite authors, Rob Radcliffe over Skype Rob has written some exceptional books, covering Lad Lit, Fantasy and semi-autobiographical. We discuss the reason we came into contact and the point at which Rob moved forward with his love of writing. We talk about his thought processes when writing a book, his muses and inspirations, as well as what gives him the ideas for his books and how writing sequels/prequels to his books proves harder than the first. Rob is candid and open and a genuinly amazing guy to talk to, giving some amazing insight into the life of a self published author; which we cover, and how he feels about seeing his books on the digital shelf, so to speak. Rob also gives some excellent advice on how to begin writing a book... I really would encourage anyone to download his free books on Amazon, Meat Market (one of my all time favourite books!), Rant! and Checking Out part 1, as well as absolutely downloading the rest once you are done, you really wont be disappointed!

Books into Films
Alex and I discuss our favourite books we would like to be turned into films or even TV shows. We look at possible casting for our favourites, as well as where we think they would sit in terms of the current crop of films and tv shows being spat out at a canter. As per, we go off on random tangents discussing Corrie & Eastenders, Game of Thrones, misendeavours of previous incarnations, animation and food. We also play some very dubious linked music to films that were originally books!

Feel the Force Day - Charity Comic Con
Alex and I are joined by the awe inspiring guys behind the worlds ONLY fully inclusive Comic Con, Feel the Force Day, Simon & JJ. We worked with the guys on last years event and did a previous podcast about the charity and convention, so this was like old friends meeting up for a chat. Not only do we cover the awesome plans for expansion of the Con, the amazing work they have done, the reasons why they do what they do and the origin of the whole day, but we also find out that JJ has never seen Fireman Sam, what the guys think about Pontypridd (and their hilarious shenanigans!), Simons revelation about Dr Who and Scott from The McCormicks, JJ's facination with sweet wrappers and kids shows, the awesome guest lineup coming to this years event, curry cupcakes (this is a real thing!) as well as some nice little "nuggets" about the future of the con and the charity. These guys are amazing people and what they do is nothing short of spectacular. Check out JJ's amazing parody of 7 Seconds too! Have a listen and then go buy tickets for the Con. £4 a ticket? BARGAIN!!!

Disney pt 2
Alex and I WALTz (get it...) down Disney Main Street once more, looking at Disney films from a slightly different (and often via a ludicrous tangent) way. We talk about Disney's old films continuious ploy to kill off someones family member and use that as a way to push the character forward, we look at the Anti-Heroes and heinious villains in the old and modern day films as well as give Alex 30 seconds to name as many Disney films as possible (he fails miserably btw!) With tangents including shots being fired at Harvey Weinstein, Alex's mission to drag us off topic at every opportunity, shots fired at Nick Grimshaw, Angela Lansbury as a sexy Maleficent and some quirky facts about Disney actors and characters. Add in some excellent, cheery Disney music, and this is not the same Disney podcast as the light and fluffy part 1 from last year. Contains explicit language and insinuations.

Star Trek pt 1
Alex and I delve into the films of Star Trek, from OS (Original Series for those not in the know) through Next Gen (Next Generation) and onto the reboots. We look at how each film has expanded on the corresponding series and how they moved the characters on, or not, and the overall feel of each film. We also discuss our favourite parts and compare how each film holds up in this day and age. We throw in some fun facts and give our very "high horse" opinions on each of the films, disecting plots and storyline arcs and the multiple continuity errors thrown up. Not forgetting our usual random tangents during our discussions. We pick our favourites from each "era" and talk about our reasons why. Not to mention some awesome space themed music!

Star Wars Pt 1
Alex and I talk about the original trilogy of Star Wars films, whilst dealing with the ridiculous heat this heatwave is throwing at us, with intertwined tangents that are mostly relevant to what we are talking about! We give our verdicts on the original trilogy as well as throw in some fun facts. We rank the films, and the peripheral films thereafter as well, before rolling off the cliff with tangents. Our Twitter followers get a shout out as well for their contributrion to the show, and we discuss each comment made by some of our followers. There is a clear winner for who the favourite is though. Care to guess? We throw in some space themed music as well, to add to the fun. Laughs, fake tears, cringing and threats of violence make this quite the fun episode!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Alex (after he decides to turn up...) & i look at The Peoples Champion, Dwayne Johnson and his rise from WWF (yeah I said it and what?)to Hollywoods most paid actor in 2017. We look at his early beginnings in acting, his typcasting and his breaking the mold to become one of the most bankable actors on the planet. From 2001's The Mummy Returns to 2018's Skyscraper and beyond, Dwayne Johnson has shed his moniker of "The Rock" and is now a actor, producer and director in his own right. We also talk about some fun facts and I fanboy a little of my man crush! Throw in some very classic musical choices and this is a show for all the Dwayne Johnson fans out there! Can you smell that...?

Creating Original Ideas
Alex & I take a break for the slating and downbeat and look to invigorate those who are looking to be creative, be original, be different and challenge Hollywood's remake culture at the moment. This was all Alex's idea by the way! Haha! We discuss the most important areas to help you be more creative and original and how that relates to films and tv shows, giving examples of where those who have challenged and been different have shone through and taken us on a journey through new processes. With so much going on, we wanted to inspire others to put themselves out there and create content that can push boundaries and give them the tools to do so. We actively encourage scripts and screenplays to be sent in and we can give feedback etc. We hope this is a nice break from the norm and is informative and helpful, along with our choices of music to help us push ourselves forward in times of "blocks" We genuinely hope you like this one off. Don't forget to leave us a review :)

Why The Ghostbuster Remake Was So Poor!
Trigger Warning - Do not listen if easily offended by anything remotely negative! Alex & I finally delve into a real film hate of ours, and that is Paul Fieges abomination that is "Ghostbusters" (2016) This film is the standard for crap films! Seen a crap film, thats a "ghostbusters (2016)" From the terrible writing, "comedy" that doesnt hit the mark, direction and lacklustre chemistry from the cast; not the mention the ludicrously cringey "jokes" thrown around in the film and the body shaming, we leave no stone unturned as we go full steam savage on everything about the film, whilst comparing it to the orignal source material and everything amazing with that film. We share some very staunch opinions and make no apologies for it, so if you are easily triggered then this is not for you!

Alex, Andrew and I look at the filmography of one of the most talented Directors out there, Edgar Wright. We anylize his style, his influences and some fun facts. We look at his work in TV as well as discuss where he could go from his success with Baby Driver. Rdgar Wright is definitely hot proprty in Hollywood now, and we want to shed some more light on a multi-talented British export, and one who has a truely amazing style behind the screen, as well as in his writing and producing. Who would we like to see him team up with on a budding British script? Come take a listen to find out!
