Film Triggers 042 - Assistant Directing with Jason Allred
Jason Allred is a very impressive person with many credits. He's been an assistant director for more than a decade (in addition to producing and directing in his own right) and he shares his insight on how to get into the industry, how to improve within the industry, and how to generally be industrious. Daren asks insightful questions, and Alan kinda just rides this one out with some jokes and stuff. Film Triggers 041 - TinLinc of Spies
The 12 Days of Spielbergmas™ limps to its inevitable conclusion! We're joined by Lauren Haroutunian, Dean of the RocketJump Film School to talk about some Spielberg movies and Many Other Things™. We discuss Tintin, Lincoln, and Bridge of Spies. Spielberg makes some really really great movies that don't get talked about or loved very much for some reason, which is a crime really, because they're all fantastic. It's weird. Alan also realizes that he's completely screwed up this Spielberg retrospective, and that we should have just done every Spielberg movie ever made, because the man is a genius, and who doesn't want to watch all those Spielberg movies I sure do you too okay great let's watch 'em. Lauren is the Dean of the RocketJump Film School, the best place in the entire universe to learn awesome things about how movies get made. Seriously though, it's great, and entertaining! We also talk about Torque, a surprisingly great movie, if you're kinda a movie know-it-all, and in a weird mood. And we gush about Porto's Bakery. I'm not saying I'm going to ever move to Los Angeles, but if I did, I would live next door to one. Because it's literally the best thing in LA. Or on planet Earth. Check out the RocketJump Film School at these places: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. And at the link above to their actual website where you can sign up for things, and chat on their forums. Sometimes you'll see Alan in there. He's kind of a jerk. Film Triggers 040 - Schindler's Report, If You Can
The 12 Days of Spielbergmas™ are certainly coming to a middle! But the quality is higher than middling! We discuss Schindler's List, Minority Report, and Catch Me If You Can. Spielberg makes the most important movie of all time (discuss), then we inexplicably skip the rest of the 90's and lots of interesting work to jump to 2002 when he release 2 great, very fun movies. Next episode we discuss TinTin, Lincoln, and Bridge of Spies. So yeah, we're skipping the entirety of the aughts. I guess. And then we're done with Spielberg, for awhile. I guess. Whatever. Our guests today are Kaitlyn Yang, VFX Supervisore, and Adhish Yajnik, whose name I butchered due to inadvertent racism? Seriously though, is Yajnik harder to pronounce than Seawright? It doesn't even have any silent letters, unlike the 3 useless vestigial letters in my dumb name. Erg. Whatever. They work at (and Kaitlyn runs) Alpha Studios, a VFX house in Burbank, CA, and they know things, you should listen to what they have to say. Alpha Studios twitter: @alphastudios Instagram: @alphastudios Find Kaitlyn on Twitter: @kaitlynyang Good luck finding Adhish, cause he hates you and is too good for you and your social media. Film Triggers 039 - Spielberg Tumbles into the 90's
We continue the 12 Days of Spielbergmas™! You'll continue to love it! We discuss Raiders of the Lost Ark, Always, and Hook. Spielberg makes the greatest action movie of all time (discuss), we skip his very excellent and prolific 80's and he gets self-indulgent in Always, and just indulgent-indulgent in Hook. Next episode we discuss Schindler's List, Minority Report, and Catch Me If You Can. It's gonna be a good show, but again, we skip basically an entire decade (90's) Our guest today is Matt Orr, lead singer of RKDN, songwriter, composer, and disgusting taco enthusiast.   Find Matt on Twitter: @rkdnmusic and @mattorrmattorr RKDN on Instagram: @rkdnmusic Tell us who are the people that you would like us to interview and talk to and talk about and things at these places: Find Daren: @darentsmith Find Alan: @alanseawright Find Telekinesis: @TelekinesisEnt, Instagram: @telekinesisentertainment and Facebook: TelekinesisEntertainment The Film Triggers podcast is a purely ego driven gabfest, featuring director Alan Seawright, and producer Daren Smith of Telekinesis Entertainment. Film Triggers 037 - You Will Not Be Spielberg
Today we start the 12 Days of Spielbergmas™! You're going to love it! We discuss Jaws, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, and 1941. Spielberg gets his mojo, loses it, and sets himself up for the freaking 1980's. Next episode we discuss Raiders of the Lost Ark, Always, and Hook, so we basically skip most of the 1980's because Alan is bad at his job. Our guest today is Adam Mangum, author of Peak Crosser (also on iBooks) Adam also runs a BYU sports podcast (the Rise and Shout Podcast) will be hosting a yet-to-be-named Geek Culture podcast, and is a general man-about-town and bon vivant. Film Triggers 036 - Full Time Jobs with Rod Santiano
Rod Santiano, our favorite Director of Photography, joins us again to talk about what it's like to have a full-time job in film (in his case, shooting and editing at an ad agency here in Utah.) Listen as Daren and Alan get really jealous about his regular paychecks and health and dental insurance. Thrill as Rod is jealous of Alan and Daren's freedom to not only do work for banks and Insurance companies! It's riveting stuff. Film Triggers 035 - Rage and Los Angeles
Daren's angry about Variety! Alan thinks variety is the spice of life! Then we talk about Daren's genius plan to travel to LA a lot to, you know, make movies. Film Triggers 034 - Studios v. Indies: Dawn of Snarkstice
More regular! We've been eating our fiber! We talk about the new Apple iPhone, because we're corporate shills. Then we talk about why Indie movies are so much better than Studio movies this year. The Mike Bisbiglia (@birbigs) tells you why you should support independent film, and, surprise! A couple of independent filmmakers agree with him and talk about it. Thrilling! We're still trying to give away some BYU swag! So do the things we say to get it. If you don't, we'll be sad, but also happy that we don't have to do that work. Is this interesting? Film Trigger 033 - How do Producers make money?
This month, it's been almost 2 months since our last podcast. Because we're terrible! On the plus side, we talk about Barco Escape. Is it neat? Let's ask Alan and Daren if they think it's neat.  Then we talk about how producers (and directors, but mostly producers) get paid. Cause we're all about the $$$. Then we talk a bit about BYU Football, so go ahead and skip that, unless you are a fan, or find us charming and witty. Then, there's a new giveaway! Listen to the episode to find out how to get a thing! If it's not a thing that you care about, keep in mind, someone on eBay will think it's a valuable thing, and give you money for it. But don't take Bitcoins, that crap is useless. Is this interesting? Film Triggers 031 - Depression and Self-Doubt
This week, Alan and Daren pretty much just mope about things. Seriously, it's basically just #whiteguyproblems.   Have you ever wondered how it feels to be right on the cusp of producing a film, only to have it stagnate for months on end? Listen to these guys describe it in excruciating detail! Then they talk about Uncharted 4 for awhile, even though they haven't played it yet! This may be the least useful podcast ever! Film Triggers 030 - Acting and Financing?
This week, Alan and Daren discuss how being a working actor, and trying to get funding for your movie as a producer are basically the exact same thing. Really. That's what we've arrived at.   They've been casting their film, and trying to raise money for it for the last several months, and have learned many things. Would you like to know the things that they know? Well, you're in the right place, wherever you are that you listen to podcasts! We know it's either in the car, on public transit, or on the toilet. As long as you're not pooping in public transit, we won't judge. Even if you're pooping in your car. Hey, it's your car, right? Is this interesting? Film Triggers 029 - Writing a Script
This week, Alan and Daren discuss the writing process on the movie that they're trying to make, Hidden World. They're excited because they just finished a major (last?) draft of the script, and feel like they're really good at things. Learn what it's like to have lots of self-assurance! Also, learn how you can temper that self-assurance with actual, meaningful information about whether your script is good or not! Lastly, learn what Daren thinks about the Tesla Model 3. Film Triggers 028 - Heart
This week, Alan and Daren discuss what it means when a movie "has heart". Some of the ideas come from Lindsay Doran and some of them come from Daren. You know it's going to be a useful episode, because almost none of the ideas come from Alan. Also, we're in the middle of the casting process for our movie, and you get a firsthand account of how nerve-wracking that is, primarily for Alan. Because he has crippling personality issues. Additionally! Our Super-Fast, Ultra-Furious giveaway is over, so get off our lawn you dirty kids. But get right back on our lawn, because in just a couple of weeks, we're giving away the Cornetto Trilogy on Blu-Ray (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End) They're basically our favorite movies, and they can be yours! Film Triggers 026 - Furious 7
We did it! 7 Fast and/or Furious movies, in 11 days! We're heroes of modern cinema-going! This one finds the gang having jumped all through crazy time-hoops (maybe that's how Vin Diesel's character can't die... He's a Time Lord) to have Fast & Furious 6 happen before Tokyo Drift, so that now Furious 7 can happen. Also, Lucas Black has not aged well. Seems to have aged about 15 years in the time it took him to walk across a garage to talk to Vin Diesel. The crown weighs heavy on the Drift King. Daren completely hates Alan now, and Alan may have started hating himself. This franchise is weird, and absurd and how did this episode make $1.5 billion dollars?  You won't find the answers here. So quit asking.   Race on over here to win all 7 movies on Blu-Ray! bit.ly/tkefast Find Daren: @darentsmith Find Alan: @alanseawright Find Telekinesis: @TelekinesisEnt, Instagram: @telekinesisentertainment and Facebook: TelekinesisEntertainment The Film Triggers podcast is a purely ego driven gabfest, featuring director Alan Seawright, and producer Daren Smith of Telekinesis Entertainment. Film Triggers 025 - Fast & Furious 6
We're watching all 7 Fast and Furious movies over the course of as few days as we can tolerate! For your entertainment and education. These films are a phenomenon, and we want to figure out why. Also, we want to test the limits of the human psyche. Part 5: Fast & Furious 6 Or Furious 6, if you believe the on-screen title. This freaking franchise! Amiright!? Daren's back to really hating these. Like, a lot. Furious 6 is actually possibly the best-written of the series so far, but Daren hates the logical inconsistencies. I mean seriously, if you haven't bought into the logical inconsistencies in this series so far, nothing here is going to change your mind. But how about that 28 mile long runway? And cars fighting an Antonov transport plane? And the questionable acting and great fight sequences? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!? Cause Daren isn't, but Alan sure as heck is! Film Triggers 024 - Fast 5
We're watching all 7 Fast and Furious movies over the course of as few days as we can tolerate! For your entertainment and education. These films are a phenomenon, and we want to figure out why. Also, we want to test the limits of the human psyche. Part 5: Fast 5  This is the best Fast movie yet! Which is not saying a whole lot... The Fast and Furious movies complete their transition from car-racing subculture movies to giant heist extravaganzas. For some reason there is a bigger worldwide audience for that, though we have to assume that more people actually race cars than pull off giant international heists. Who knows, maybe master-thievery is a growth industry? With only 2 more Fast movies, will Daren survive? Will Alan continue enjoying them? Will either of them have anything useful or interesting to say? Probably not.  Win the movies here: bit.ly/tkefast Find Daren: @darentsmith Find Alan: @alanseawright Find Telekinesis: @TelekinesisEnt, Instagram: @telekinesisentertainment and Facebook: TelekinesisEntertainment The Film Triggers podcast is a purely ego driven gabfest, featuring director Alan Seawright, and producer Daren Smith of Telekinesis Entertainment. Film Triggers 023 - Fast & Furious
We're watching all 7 Fast and Furious movies over the course of as few days as we can tolerate! For your entertainment and education. These films are a phenomenon, and we want to figure out why. Also, we want to test the limits of the human psyche. Part 4: Fast & Furious   We LIKED this one! Both of us! At the same time! Despite coming from the same (ostensibly) creative team as Tokyo Drift, #4 is actually pretty good. There are characters, there's a discernible plot, there are stakes, there are lots and lots and lots of gratuitous booty shots oh wait yeah this is still a Fast and Furious movie it's not like its Shakespeare or something what do you want from me? Is this podcast worthwhile?
