Review: THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
If you are a Marvel fan, and you saw THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, then you may be like me. And you are still reeling from the experience from what may be the greatest superhero movie thus far. There’s a lot to take in from this film, and it's very difficult to talk about it without spoiling details. But I will do my best not to ruin it.

Review: TULLY
This new movie is written by Diablo Cody, who is the same writer who brought us the biting humor that we loved in JUNO. This time, instead of focusing on a teenage girl going through pregnancy, we see the world of post pregnancy through the life of a woman in her mid 30s played by Charlize Theron.

Review: ISLE OF DOGS
I could've talked about how the ISLE OF DOGS is one big allegory of a fascist regime creating blatant discrimination against a disenfranchised group, and then capitalizing on the widespread prejudice. But instead, I give you shitty haiku. Lots of shitty haiku.

Review: LOVE, SIMON
The movie LOVE,SIMON is a beautiful emotional roller coaster of fear, love and liberation. Once a person says he or she is gay, the world becomes a different place for them, and that can be for better or worse. This is the best movie I've seen about the fear of crossing that threshold I’ve ever seen.

Review: THOROUGHBREDS
Movies like THOROUGHBREDS are why I like films. The cast is so small that you can count all the speaking roles on both hands. Movies like this remind me that a good story doesn’t have to be epic; it can be no bigger than the couch in a living room in front of a TV. You should go see it. Like now.

Review: RED SPARROW
I was expecting, nay, hoping that this was the female Russian version of the "Bourne Identity" with martial arts and zip lining, and snipers in turtlenecks. And there is some of that, but really this is an espionage film.

Review: ANNIHILATION
I didn’t know what to expect from ANNIHILATION other than what was in the trailer. I’ve seen the movie, and I’m still not sure what to expect from it. Either it was too science-y for me, or it was too vague for me to figure out.

Review: GAME NIGHT
What happens when you and your friends get caught in a game that could get someone killed? The film GAME NIGHT has moments that are little too unbelievable to be real. But it’s funny enough for a night out with your own game night friends.

Review: BLACK PANTHER
The filmmakers did such a good job of creating a nation like Wakanda with all its technological advances and cultural history that you wish you could book a flight to see it for yourself. Of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I’ve seen, BLACK PANTHER feels more like an epic fantasy movie than it does a superhero movie.

Review: WINCHESTER
My favorite part about Winchester was watching Helen Mirren be thrown into a glass case full of rifles. Not that I don’t like Helen Mirren, I’m just impressed an Oscar-winning actress in her 70s has no problem with a movie that asks so much of her. The story of the real-life Sarah Winchester and the weird house she created is more of an interesting dinner conversation than it is a horror movie.

Review: EARLY MAN
But if there is one thing the trailer doesn't tell you is that this is very much a soccer movie. Or futbol! The premise of EARLY MAN really matches the Stone Age and the Bronze Age against each other in a soccer match. Maybe it’s because I’m not a big soccer fan, or because I wanted it to be more slapstick funny, but the film left me wanting a little more than what was delivered.

REVIEW: Phantom Thread
Could this be the final Daniel Day-Lewis movie, and is it a worthy conclusion to his career?

REVIEW: 12 Strong
"Afghanistan is the graveyard of civilizations" is a line that is repeated throughout the movie 12 STRONG. This movie is not just a war movie, but it’s an introduction to the complicated geopolitical chessboard that is Afghanistan, and the uneasy alliances the U.S. had to make to even get close enough to fire at the Taliban.

REVIEW: Jumanji- Welcome to the Jungle
If you wanted to see this new JUMANJI for nostalgic reasons, sorry, go pull out the ol’ DVD for the original 90s movie. But that doesn’t make the new movie bad, it just makes it another action film.

REVIEW: The Post
We essentially have 2 movies in one. One starring Tom Hanks upholding the 1st amendment despite authoritarian opposition, and the other starring Meryl Streep fighting her way out of her own comfort zone to embrace a leadership role. This film is a perfect reminder of an era where our major news source was thrown on our doorstep every morning.

REVIEW: Molly's Game
This is another well-written and well-directed film executed by Aaron Sorkin, who just doesn't fail to deliver with smart dialogue and a rapid succession of events that keep the film interesting. The narration about breaking down poker was so interesting that I found myself leaning into the screen trying to absorb every word.

REVIEW: Ferdinand
This movie is all bull. Literally, there isn't one cow in the whole film. Someone needs to have a serious discussion about cattle gender inequality with 20th Century Fox. Perhaps one day, those working cows in film will break thru that glass barn ceiling.

REVIEW: Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri
If you want a solid movie, with brilliant acting and sharp dialogue, or you just want a mature break from the pop culture slew of films that are out now, then I recommend this movie. I inadvertently went to see a movie written and directed by one of my favorite playwrights of the last decade, Martin McDonagh, and I wasn't disappointed.

REVIEW: The Shape of Water
This movie isn’t bad, but with the amount of critical hype it received so close to Oscar season, this movie fell short on my hopes that this would be a love story that would change the dynamic of romantic movies. Instead, so to speak, it’s all wet.

REVIEW: Coco
Pixar is fully aware of its animation capabilities, but it chooses not to stop there. There has to be a core story that makes the film relatable to the audience. That kind of consideration for the viewer is really the crux of Pixar's success.
