EP 023 Practical Wisdom for Anxious Times with Brian Becker
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic when people are socially distancing and sheltering in place, Brian Becker and his son Jeff looked back at what they had written in their book Tender Lions: Building the Vital Relationship Between Father and Son. They discovered that while they had not written it specifically for these circumstances, the book contained practical wisdom for these anxious times.  When family, health and finances are threatened, people experience a lot of stress. The current pandemic is impacting all three areas and people are experiencing a lot of anxiety. The longer this goes on, the more people feel the negative effects.  Brian described “three big things at play” in the current circumstances. EP 022 Unemployment with Dale Kreienkamp
There are approximately 21 million people who find themselves unemployed each year. Dale Kreienkamp was a Human Resources executive and consultant who personally experienced two seasons of unemployment. During his time off, Dale sought out resources for spiritual support and found many books on how to deal with death, divorce, illness, but not much on unemployment.   During the first season after 25 years of employment, Dale began writing devotions for himself as a way to process the experience and lean upon God in the process. He started his own consulting firm and was hired away by a client, then 10 years later found himself unemployed again.   Dale writes: “Go allows challenging experiences to strengthen us.” From these two challenging experiences and God’s prompting, Dale was inspired to revisit those devotions he had begun writing 10 years earlier, which have now been compiled into the book “How Long O Lord, How Long? Devotions for the Unemployed and Those Who Love Them.”   Join my conversation with Dale and hear the wisdom he has to share!   WEBSITE: www.howlongolord.org  EMAIL:  dale@howlongolord.org  FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/HowLongOLord/  TWITTER:  https://twitter.com/lord_how  LINKEDIN:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/DaleKreienkamp/  YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpwLNR4ACJ6BA0SOM5ZQTsQ/featured   Question of the Week Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, a Private Facebook Group where we discuss the ways God is faithfully innovating our lives.  This week’s question: What experiences have you had in the journey of life where God has filled your hungry heart with good things?  How might God be calling you to share what you’ve received with others? Ep 21 Fathering with Brian Becker
“I caused a great deal of pain in my family that destroyed the trust between me and my wife, my son and my daughter. Somehow, by the grace of God, I was able to get honest, get help and get humble. Thankfully, this led to many difficult and yet vitally important conversations that began the process of rebuilding the trust and love that was lost in our family.”   Brian reached a point where he could no longer hold a dark secret that he had been hiding.  Through the support of caring friends, he told his wife and children, knowing that this could have torn his family apart.  Thankfully, through the grace of God, there was healing, growth and rebuilding of trust. Through this personal journey of pain, honesty, brokenness and healing in his personal life,  Brian realized the vital importance of fathering. Brian says “If it were classified as a disease, fatherlessness (whether it be physical or emotional) would be an epidemic worth of attention as a national emergency. This led he and his son Jeff to co-author a book titled, Tender Lions: Building the Vital Relationship Between Father and Son. Brian’s story is one of redemption, and how only God can bring beauty out of ashes! Ep 020 God’s Invisible Qualities with Bill Carambelas
God’s  invisible qualities can be shared in so many ways!  Bill Carambelas responded to God’s call and left a high-paying career in the tech industry to become a Certified Financial Planner and  launch his own financial services business, Alpha Omega Financial. In this episode, Bill shares the way God super-naturally provided as he prepared and made the transition, and as his business has developed.   Reflecting God’s heart comes through in the way Bill cares for people. Personally, he’s not afraid to step into the hard places of people’s lives, serving as a caring presence and praying for those in his life.  Professionally, he seeks God’s wisdom in the way he cares for his clients. From both aspects, people are served well. Join me to hear Bill’s story! Ep 019 Umbrella Prayers with Melody Hester
Sometimes the circumstances around us can seem overwhelming!  There are so many that are often in our prayers where we have no control or ability to make any significant change, and yet we care and pray.  Our heart hurts and concern can slip into worry or overwhelm. During one of these seasons, my guest Melody Hester was inspired to reflect on the names and  attributes of God when praying for a multitude of circumstances that felt heavier than what she could bear.  In doing this, God inspired what has become “Umbrella Prayers,” a simple prayer tool that anyone can use. It was such a delight to hear what God has been doing through Melody’s steps of faithfulness. Starting from a place of overwhelm in praying for the situations around her, God prompted Melody to reflect on who HE is, and from there, she began to put the circumstances under God’s care.  By using the image of an umbrella, she’s helped many other women begin to place their prayer concerns under God’s care. I particularly appreciated Melody’s honesty in saying that she really didn’t have a major strategy, she has just continually stepped through the doors that God has been opening for Umbrella Prayers. She invited us to consider two questions, which we’ll use in the Questions of the Week.  You can reach Melody through these channels: WEBSITE:  https://www.melodyhester.com/umbrella-prayers/ FACEBOOK:  https://www.facebook.com/melodyhesterUP/ INSTAGRAM:  @umbrellaprayers Question of the Week Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, a Private Facebook Group where we discuss the ways God is faithfully innovating our lives.  This week’s questions: What attributes of God do you need to focus on the most in this season of your life? What attribute or characteristic of God have you seen displayed in your life? Which prompted me to ask… In this season of your life, where might God be inviting you to venture with him? Whatever it may be, I’d love it if you’d join us in the Facebook Group and share how God is working in your life. We’d love to encourage you! Ep 017 Church Music with Ashley Danyew
Experiencing music, liturgy and worship in a local church were experiences that God used to shape Ashley Danyew for ministry.  Devotional practices in her family as she grew and opportunities to serve and be mentored as a teen prepared Ashley along the way. Serving as staff who serve in a tiny church did not allow her a wealthy of resources to lead the music ministry.  Ashley said: “I know what it’s like to not have a budget and needing to build your own thing…”   As Ashley served and studied, she developed the resources needed in the small churches she served and began journaling on a personal blog as a way to process these experiences and document what she was learning.  Over time, she realized other people were finding and benefiting from these resources. Eventually, she turned her focus from utilizing the blog for personal reasons to one that was aimed at serving and blessing others.   Today, Ashley is making the resources she needed along the way available for other musicians.  Her deep love for God experienced through a rich spiritual life continues to prompt her creativity, developing liturgies, curriculum and other training resources.  Join our conversation to hear how God is using Ashley’s experience to bless others. Ep 015 Love Calling with Kate McCord
What is love calling you to? In her mid 40’s, Kate began asking God, “what’s next?”  As she opened her heart, mind and hands to God with that simple question, God prepared her for something that she never expected – serving in war-torn Afghanistan as a Christian humanitarian aid worker.   Living in a culture that was vastly different than the United States taught Kate many things that continue to shape what she is doing now.  “When I was in Afghanistan, I had to enter the story before I could present the story.” Now back in the U.S., Kate is an author of three books: “In the Land of Blue Burqa’s,” “Farewell Four Waters,” and “Why God Calls Us to Dangerous Places.”  Kate helps other people listen deeply to God through the practice of Spiritual Direction. Kate McCord has found her unique way of helping people enter the story with God and sharing the love of God to the people she encounters.  Join me for an insightful conversation with Kate! What would the world see if people in churches opened their homes to welcome in families, the lonely, people new to town, to gather, build friendships, care for one another and give thanks to God?  Jason and Ashley live a missional community lifestyle doing this very thing, and are helping other to do it too. They are learning that real relationships take time, they can’t be rushed.  Each relationship is unique and takes time to build. A trip to the Philippines to provide retreat care for ministry workers exposed Amy to a world she never knew existed.  Visiting villages where women were making wallets and purses from plant materials and food wrappers just to eek out a meager income, prompted a simple thought, wondering what she could do to help?   SORA Products began small, with Amy sharing these handmade products with her friends and family. Ep 012 Letting God’s Wisdom Lead with Sarah Guldalian
ABC, NPR and the WB… Sarah was a rising talent in secular media when she stepped away because of a sense that she didn’t align spiritually.  Little did she know that taking a job in ministry media would only be a season of preparation before God nudged her to step back into the world she thought she had left for good.  There came a point in time when she felt a sense of calling to serve individuals and organizations back in the world of secular media, which was confirmed by her peers and her employer. Passion, authenticity, creativity, love for Jesus and love for people is what drives Sarah.  She is taking the lessons learned from the world of ministry media – grace, humility, excellence and integrity – into a new season when she sensed the call to reenter the industry she thought she’d left behind. Sarah and her brother founded founded Rhinohyde Productions with a desire to provide excellent media production for nonprofits and ministries, and serving their staff and clients through God-honoring values.  Operating their business with integrity and authenticity has opened opportunity to help others see the grace, goodness and provision of God. Sarah and Jason strive to  lead their company in a way that reflects the nature and character of God, setting them apart and causing other people to wonder what makes them this way. Ep 011 Comfort Dog Ministry with Brenda & Phil Burden
Phil and Brenda openly said: “We’re not dog people,” and yet, God called them to be the primary caretakers and lead the comfort dog ministry at their local church.  Phil reminded us that God doesn’t always call the equipped, but He always equips the called! “We can see how God has equipped us throughout our lives for this!” The Sasha Comfort Dog Ministry offers the mercy, compassion and the grace of Jesus Christ through a ministry of presence and prayer.  Sasha travels with a handler and a companion to the Parris Island military base, hospitals, nursing homes and schools throughout the Hilton Head community.  She also travels to deployed locations when called upon. Wherever we go, we ask “Is there someone, or something we can pray for?” It’s a ministry of presence where we offer comfort, help and hope.   People are hurting, everyone has something. Outwardly, things could look great, but inwardly, it just seems that everyone could use a friend, everyone could use a little comfort and care.  This ministry has opened our eyes to the needs around us. The comfort dog gives us confidence to go where we would not normally go and speak boldly about Jesus, and pray with people, which we would normally not do.  It seems there is reverse training going on, where the dog is teaching the humans to be better listeners and just be present with people. Phil said, “if you listen long enough, people will tell you what you need to know.” Join my conversation to hear more about what Phil and Brenda are learning through the Sasha Comfort Dog Ministry.   FACEBOOK:  https://www.facebook.com/SashaComfortDog/ INSTAGRAM:  @lcck9sasha EMAIL:  Sasha@K9comfort.org  or  comfortdog.hhi@gmail.com LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry:  www.K9Comfort.org   Question of the Week Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, a Private Facebook Group where we discuss the ways God is faithfully innovating our lives.  This week’s questions: In what ways have you been comforted by someone else just being a non-judgemental presence in your life?   In your circles of relationships, who may be blessed by your presence in their life?   Complimentary Conversation If you have something stirring and would like to share, jump over and select a Complimentary Appointment.  I’d be delighted to help you explore what God may have in mind.   The Podcast releases every Wednesday Morning Hopefully, this inspires your expression of faith, that’s the goal! With a growing awareness that each person has one short life to live, Chris and Jenna Badeker were feeling a desire to pursue music full time, so in 2017 they made some bold moves of faith!  Jenna stepped away from her career as a teacher, they rebranded their band as Wild Harbors, they recorded a record, and they are living the adventure of encouraging others to live their one life well… in whatever way that may be! What does it take to pursue a God-sized dream?  Though Chris and Jenna didn’t say it exactly this way… faith and hustle, trial and error, and willingness to learn and grow.  It takes courage to step out in faith.  They had encouragement, support from their family and friends, and the mentorship of others who were further along in the journey.   Saying NO opens the door to saying YES!  Join my conversation and see how it may encourage you to join the adventure that God may be stirring in your life!   FACEBOOK:  https://www.facebook.com/WildHarbors/ INSTAGRAM:  https://www.instagram.com/wildharbors/ TWITTER:  https://twitter.com/WildHarbors YOUTUBE:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8_vGgKf3zO1J2luEmus1mQ     Question of the Week Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, a Private Facebook Group where we discuss the ways God is faithfully innovating our lives.  This week’s questions: In what ways are you creating margin for God to speak and stir something creative in you?   Where might you need to say NO, so that you can say YES to what God is prompting?   Complimentary Conversation If you have something stirring and would like to share, jump over and select a Complimentary Appointment.  I’d be delighted to help you explore what God may have in mind.   The Podcast releases every Wednesday Morning Hopefully, this inspires your expression of faith, that’s the goal! Ep 008 Restoring the Land through a Conservation Ecology Ministry with Nate Simons
Nate Simons leads Blue Heron Ministries, a conservation nonprofit Indiana focused on restoring the natural wetlands by cultivating the native plant species of the area.  Through stewarding our natural resources, Nate has the opportunity to share the wonder of God with the people who engage in service projects. Bringing a vision to reality is not always a smooth path, and the way forward often has twists, turns, ruts, failures, and for those who persevere, sometimes it blossoms into being.  Nate’s path involved all of these, and yet his call was very clear, even though he did not fully know how it would be fulfilled. People participate in conservation ecology projects in the context of community.  The organization is comprised of both paid and volunteer staff, and there is room for people of all ages, from infants in carriers and small children alongside their parents, to older adults.  All participants get to enjoy the beauty of creation and the complexity of our ecosystems, and the glory of what God is doing in His creation. Nate shares his love for God’s creation and his love for people so gently and authentically. I have to believe that anyone who works alongside of Nate sees his love for God come through in a very gentle and genuine way.  You can just hear it in his voice! Nate describes an event, where God revealed a glimpse of His glory to Nate, in a way that Nate was able to SEE!  Join my conversation with Nate Simons. Ep 007 The Power of Encouragement with Sue Hewitt
“We don’t realize the difference that encouragement makes.”  Sue helped develop and now leads Upworks, a ministry in St. Paul Minnesota whose mission is “Celebrating and developing each person’s God-given potential to contribute to our world.” Listening to Sue, it is evident how she has been encouraged along the way and each experience in her life built upon another that prepared her for the work she is leading today.  Upworks utilizes a network of Life Advocates, business partners and nonprofit partners to guide, support and seek to ultimately place clients in jobs that are sustainable and above the poverty level. There were some major bumps along the way, however Sue points to God’s grace and faithful nurture through the words of Scripture that provided fresh perspective each time it was needed throughout her life.  Being open to God’s leading and willing to take the steps of faith necessary to embrace each new opportunity, has resulted in many people being blessed and giving honor to the Lord. I invite you to listen in on my conversation with Sue Hewitt and hear how the power of encouragement is evident through the successes and failures in her journey. Today, Sue’s passion is empowering and encouraging others. Through her story, I hope you are inspired to walk alongside another. Imagine the difference that can be made if every person had a champion encourager at their side!   WEBSITE: upworksmn.org   FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/UpWorksMN/ BOOK REFERENCED:  The Divine Mentor: Growing Your Faith as You Sit at the Feet of the Savior   QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, a Private Facebook Group where we discuss the ways God is faithfully innovating our lives.  This week’s questions: In your sphere of influence, where might God be calling you to provide encouragement?   What is the first thing you’ll do?     Play Episode 007: The post Ep 007 The Power of Encouragement with Sue Hewitt appeared first on Faithful Innovation.

Ep 006 God Makes a Way with Mifflin Dove
Mifflin came full circle, from studying accounting in college, to serving a call from God in pastoral ministry, and ultimately back to accounting… this time with a ministry perspective.  When we open ourselves to God, he nudges us in directions where we’re able to use our skills as gifts of grace. Any new challenge can be scary, just getting outside of our comfort zone can seem risky, but when you’ve been there awhile, you’ll eventually be comfortable again.   Mifflin’s perspective is “When we’re blessed, we’re blessed to be a blessing.  Our work is to help other people be blessed.” You don’t have to be a pastor, or be out in front make a difference.  God can use whatever gifts someone has, right where we are because ministry is about relationships – our relationship with God and our relationship with people.   Join me to hear how Mifflin walked with God through a challenging transition and provided the relationships that helped him shape Dove Bookkeeping into a thriving business.  And, how he has opportunity to serve and care for more than just the financial aspects of people’s businesses.  You’ll hear how easily Mifflin weaves together his business and his care for people. Episode 005 Visual Faith: Telling the Story of God’s Faithfulness with Connie Denninger
Words uttered in haste over twenty years ago: “I don’t pray,” turned a personal conviction into a growing movement called Visual Faith.  Connie Denninger, a Lutheran-trained educator and pastors wife has been on a personal journey of learning how to be in consistent relationship with God.  As Connie became aware of her own need, she also began paying attention to the ways others, especially young moms, were yearning to be in relationship with God. God has a way of revealing areas of weakness and brokenness, and invites us to engage in ways where these areas can be shaped into something beautiful. Over and over again Connie felt God inviting her to keep taking steps forward.  She humbly grew in awareness of her own areas of strength and weakness, and engaged others to partner with her. Today, the Visual Faith movement is spreading rapidly! There are Visual Faith groups in 11 states, the District of Columbia and in Israel. Looking from the outside, it seemed to have suddenly come about. However, in talking to Connie, it was over twenty years in development, where one step of faithfulness led to another.  God’s provision and grace is threaded throughout this story, and comes to life through Visual Faith Ministry, whose mission it is to tell the story of God’s faithfulness. Join my conversation with Connie and be encouraged in knowing that God will provide what you need when he calls you into Kingdom work.   Website: Visual Faith Ministry Facebook: Visual Faith Ministry Public Group Email: condoit@aol.com Blog: constancedenninger.blogspot.com    Question of the Week: Each week, we consider some questions.  Join us in the Faithful Innovation Lab, where we continue the conversation in a private Facebook group.  What common theme keeps surfacing in your life?   How might God want to use that to share grace with others?   The Podcast releases every Wednesday Morning Hopefully, this inspires your expression of faith, that’s the goal! Episode 004 Renewed Hope India: Where is God preparing you to say YES?
As empty nesters who were exploring options for what they could do now that their four children were out of the house, Lorelei and Ray Vargo had been exploring businesses and other ventures.  On another continent, a pastor and his wife in India were trying to help the orphans and widows in their town, but needed more training and support. Through an incredible leap of faith, the paths of these two couples intersected, with each taking small steps of faithfulness that eventually led to a friendship, partnership and the development of a residential home for 74 orphans and widows in India. Listening to their story, and looking back, it is evident how their past experiences had prepared them to take steps of faith that became Renewed Hope India.  Lorelei asks: “Is there an opportunity that God may be bringing you, or preparing you?” What may God be preparing you to say YES to? Ray says: “We don’t have to know it all… don’t let what you don’t know stop you.”  It’s about the many people that God brings together! Join me and listen to their amazing story!
