Brenden: Well, it better be short. I mean, I'm the communication guy, so betters will be concise, right? John: For sure. Sometimes it's like War & Peace; I get these bios and I wonder, what am I going to cut out of it? Because it's all very interesting, but the trouble is that you end up in a situation where you get caught. So, obviously we're going to talk about stuff to do with public speaking and communication, and I noticed that the only platform that you seem to be on is YouTube, right? So you've single-purposed yourself in one place? Brenden: Oh, no, I'm on other things like Instagram and on clubhouse too, which is a new platform, but yeah, most of my content is housed on YouTube, you got it, John: And so how did you get into the game of public speaking, because the old rule is that most people would rather die than do public speaking, so as soon as they get the opportunity to stand in public, that's it. They're gone. Brenden: Yeah, you know, and, and that was exactly my story. I grew up in Montreal and in Montreal, you need to know to speak French, so my parents looked at me, and they said, buddy, you need to learn the language. So they threw me into a French education system, which of course ended up being the best decision they ever made for me, but the process wasn't too fun. We're already scared of presentations as it is. I had to present in a language I didn't even know. So I would stand up in first or second grade, look at the crowd and go, "Bonnnjuur?" and that was my life for, for most of it. So I totally get where that fear comes from. But what happened was when I went to university, I started doing these things called case competition. Think of it like professional sports, but for nerds. So, all the guys my age were playing cricket, rugby, footie, or basketball, not really my thing. I applied that same competitive spirit to presentations and that's how I mastered communication. And I got a job in corporate America, and then I just said, "okay, what do I do with my life now?" And that's when I had the idea for MasterTalks, because I realized a lot of the communication knowledge was really bad on the platform. Nichola Zacher is an inspirational author from St Thomas Ontario Canada who achieved greatness through a unique situation she faced in life. Previous to becoming an author, Nichola worked in the field of caregiving as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) after attending SheridanCollage. Nichola works very hard to help take care of her father Bob who lives with the disease dementia. When first being diagnosed it was a difficult time for Nichola. By continuing to stay positive she found virtue and therapy in a little puppy Marley. This ultimately lead to her inspiration to write her book Marley’s Dream. Nichola’s goal with this book was to genuinely improve the lives of people and their families in similar situations. By writing this book Nichola and her dog Marley have built stronger relationships with the characters featured in her story. When writing, Nichola was confident that her message was strong and needed to be heard. This made writing the book easier than originally expected. Her message is simple but a powerful one, always try to have patience, empathy, and most importantly, love. In the future make sure to keep an eye out for Marley! Growing to a 5 Million Company If you want to grow to a $5 million company, you have to have certain things in place. In order for the team to work succinctly for you to work on your 80/20 is what I call them the highest leverage activities in your business. And if you want to hit to eight figures plus, and either sell the business or have strategic mergers or acquisitions or whatever, Your strategy or goal is there, you have to have a certain set of ingredients or things in place for the business actually work and not have it just run by your own efforts. Evergreen Flows So in evergreen flow the book. Pretty much a one page SOP. So in that one page SOP, we can have a visual diagram for what's an SOP for the people who have done that, their standard operating procedures. What should the first hire be in your business? It was interesting a wise man once told me, I don't know whether you'd agree with it or not, but he said the first person you should employ. Dashboards and Reports I think you also talked about dashboards and stuff before. What, what do you think is the best kind of way to go about that? But let's say you've got nothing now. What should, what should actions should you really take to get that from, you know, from a point where it actually works for you? Business is a numbers game The way that you do business, once you go down to the mathematical side, it's just numbers and businesses comes down to just being a numbers game. At that point, the more you can master the numbers and you have a pretty good grasp on the art.
