Discipleship – Stages of the Interior Life
Wouldn’t it be nice if the journey of holiness had distinct stages, and we could identify our own personal phases of growth in the spiritual life? Well, little known fact, that’s actually a thing, and that’s what we’re talking about on this week’s episode. Listen in as we discuss the 3 stages of the interior life, the purgative, illuminative, and the unitive way. Through the conversation, we hope you have a new level of understanding of how we journey in relationship with Jesus.

Concerts
The experience of attending a great concert can be truly impactful. You can feel united to a room of complete strangers. There’s a bond there, as everyone is interacting with the artists on stage and responding to the music. Concerts can bring out the childlike spirit within us, and make us feel free to sing along without reservations. Sometimes, the moments created at these events and the music created can move us to tears. Hopefully, all of us have gone to a concert like that. And, hopefully, all of us can say the same thing for our faith journey, that we feel close to our Church community, even those who are strangers to us, that we feel free and ourselves and childlike in moments of worship, and that we’re deeply moved in times of prayer.   Join us on this episode of Everyday Catholics, as we celebrate the ways our life in Christ can harmonize nicely with beautiful concert experiences.

Movies and Faith
If there was an Oscar category for most faith enriching film, who would you give the award to? So often we see the ways movies lead us astray, but what about the ones that point back to God and truly bless us? Join us this week as we go through our favorite movies that help us connect our daily lives back to our Catholic faith.

Your Catholic Squad
In this episode, we’re talking about your crew, your brothers and sisters in Christ helping you grow in your relationship with the Lord… aka your holy rollers… the people you roll with who are also striving for holiness. We’re giving you a roster of these people and talking about all the ways they bless you and make you smile. We promise, as we discuss all these different characters, it’s with pure delight and joy. Come laugh along with us as we celebrate the ways these friends, in their own uniqueness and quirkiness, are running the race with us. Also, fun challenge – as you listen to the episode and your friends who fit these descriptions come to mind, be sure to pass this episode along to them and share the joy!

Is that a Sport?
Okay, now let’s just remember that we are all friends here… because this episode contains what are sure to be some unpopular opinions. We’re talking about which “sports” may or may not actually be “sports”. But don’t worry, we’ll connect it back to the faith. As we distinguish the difference between a sport and a game, we’re going to talk about the difference between what looks like holiness and what authentic holiness is, the difference between virtue and mere show.

O Hallmark
Tis the season to watch Hallmark… or is it? We know, we know – some of you deeply love the cheesy lines, and the rediscovering the holiday spirit, and the “We saved Christmas!” happy endings… cue the jingle bells and the snowfall. There’s quite a following for these movie marathons. But don’t worry, we also know that some of you really just can’t stand them. In this episode we’re diving right into the great debate: Hallmark Christmas movies: love em or lose em? And of course, we’ll be connecting this back to our faith, specifically to the Advent season. Listen in and join the conversation!

Museums
Museums: buildings full of old stuff… but not just any old stuff, valued, prized old stuff. Seriously though, museums  really are places of great significance that teach us about art, or science, or history. Much more than just a fun, childhood field trip, they are places designated to conserve and advocate for things of great worth. But what does this have to do with being a Christian? Tune in to see in what ways we connect museums to our times of worship, our church communities, and, of all things, evangelization!

St. Joseph’s Fiat
St. Joseph might be one of the most acknowledged saints of all time. He’s present in our nativity scenes and usually has either a statue or window in our churches. But he might also be one of the least known saints of all time. With no words spoken in Scripture, he can become a bit of a background character. In this episode, we’re taking time to reflect on St. Joseph, and to let the testimony of his life speak to us. Join us, as we see what we can learn from him, and how we can allow him to draw us deeper into the embrace of God. “Though you have recourse to many saints as your intercessors, go specially to St. Joseph, for he has great power with God.” –  St Teresa of Avila

Airports
In this episode, we’re talkin airports. Some people enjoy them; some people detest them. Either way, airports are this place of in-between, where lots of waiting takes place as we’re journeying to our final destination. So join us in a conversation, where we connect our travel through airports to our travel through life.

Elements of the Soul
What is something we all have but definitely don’t pay enough attention to? Hands down, our souls. It can be difficult to even notice our souls. They aren’t spoken of much and there’s a lot of debate on what they actually are. That makes it really hard to understand the role that souls play in our humanness, and how to really take care of them. In this episode, we’re covering a few things the Church has to say about the human soul, like how long the soul is alive and how it relates to the body. We’ll also discuss how these teachings enlighten other areas of our faith, and offer a few practical ways you can care for your soul in everyday moments.

Adoration
You probably can’t get more Catholic than this. In this episode, we’re talking all about adoration… which we think might be a helpful thing. Even if this is a type of prayer you’re familiar with, it’s not very often that the traditions behind adoration are explained. There can be a lot of elements to this, especially when the Eucharist is exposed for adoration, and it would probably be good to know why we’re doing what we’re doing. We’re also going to share with you, our One Listeners, our stories of how adoration has really impacted our own faith journeys. So be sure to tune in for those! Do you have a story of a time of adoration that really made an impact on your life? We’d love to hear about that and share in your joy! Shoot us an email at onelistener@everydaycatholics.com or interact with us on any of our various social media platforms.

Fr. Mike Schmitz
Once upon a time, we sat down for an interview with the one and only, Fr Mike Schmitz. (By once upon a time, we mean last year-ish) We thought we’d dig this one out of the archives for your present day listening enjoyment. Laugh along with us as we talk faith and simple moments with Fr Mike!

Glitter
Get ready everyone. You’re probably not prepared for Fr Ryan’s strong opinion on – of all things – glitter. (I know, right? Of all the things to get amped up about?!) We’re going to be trekking through this episode and using glitter as an analogy for… sin. Sorry, if glitter is your thing… if that’s the case… maybe skip this one… or listen in and respond with why you think glitter is amazing. Maybe you can come up with an entire analogy of glitter being like grace or something nice and holy. Either way, if you listen in, you’re guaranteed some laughs. And possibly a better formed perspective on sin… and glitter, of course.
