Episode 26 - Cicada Invasion with Joan Allen

Joan Allen, Chief, Forest Pest Branch, Urban Forest Management Division of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, talks with host Scott Coco about the coming Cicada Invasion arriving in Fairfax County in May and June. Millions of brood X cicada are expected to emerge from their underground homes and climb up trees looking for a mate. No harm will come to the trees and the cicadas fulfill their 'mission' of mating to make more cicadas. Once they find a mate, they die and become an all-you-can-eat buffet for birds and other wildlife.
