Episode 88- Vincent Minervino (Roses Are Red, Hi-Tide Recordings)
For Episode 88, I'm joined by Vincent Minervino. Despite spending the last 15 years of his life in New Jersey, Vincent's roots are in the Rochester area. We discussed his early years playing in bands like Arms Length and The Exam. Vincent is probably most known as the frontman for Roses Are Red. We talked about how he joined RAR (then Nobody Cares) as a drummer, eventually switching to lead vocals for the full length I released on my record label. From there, the band toured relentlessly for several years and even released two records on Trustkill. After the band dissolved, Vincent moved to New Jersey and has been there ever since. Through playing in surf bands and becoming more involved in that scene, Vincent and his wife Magdalena ended up forming a record label Hi-Tide Reocrdings. Not long before our interview, the label became a full time endeavor. In the beginning of the interview, Vincent talks about how he had really recently resigned from Apple to go full time with the label. This is yet another great conversation for aspiring musicians to listen to and learn from. https://www.gofundme.com/f/enterprise-hardcore-podcast-video-equipment  https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast  https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast  https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast    https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore     --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 87: Ben Kotin (Such Gold, Taking Meds, Who Decides)
For Episode 87 I'm welcoming Ben Kotin to the podcast for the first time. Most of my listeners should be familiar with the bands Ben has been in. We talked about his time playing in Such Gold, Taking Meds, as well as his newer band Who Decides. We talked about the history of these bands, as well as what they have been up to lately. I tried to focus a little more on Who Decides since they have two local shows coming up. They're also one of the best hardcore bands in Rochester right now. I would have liked to go a little deeper on Taking Meds and Such Gold so maybe I'll get Ben on here again sometime. https://www.gofundme.com/f/enterprise-hardcore-podcast-video-equipment  https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast  https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast  https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast    https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore     --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 86: Matt Challinor (To Fester Within, The Breaking Project, The Avram, No Sweat)
Episode 86 features my first Australian guest. While he's originally from Australia and lives there currently, most of my listeners will likely remember him from his time in Rochester. Matt played drums for To Fester Within, The Breaking Project, The Avram, and No Sweat, all while he was in high school. We talked quite a bit about him playing in these bands and the many bonds he formed through them. Towards the peak of The Breaking Project and The Avram Matt realized his family was moving back to Australia. We talk about what it was like moving back there and what he's been up to there. He also talks about some pretty fun experiences touring with Polar Bear Club while they were over there. All the bands that Matt played in have songs available to listen to on the Rochester Hardcore History SoundCloud. Episode 85: Risk (BG)
For Episode 85, I'm joined by BG from the band Risk. The band is interesting because they were already an active band a decade ago. After breaking up initially, they decided to give it another run a few years back. Like a lot of bands, they were slowed down significantly in March of 2020. In the last year Risk has been fairly active with shows and in the last few months they have picked up the pace with even more shows and some fest appearances. Risk has a record called Monologue of Misery that is currently streaming everywhere and there will be vinyl available soon. Fans of heavy crossover hardcore bands like Power Trip will definitely want to take note. I'm including the link in the show notes to order Risk CDs and merch from Guerilla Press. You can catch Risk on the road quite a bit coming up, including an appearance at The Rumble in Chicago. They also have a record release show August 10 in Worcester, Massachusetts.  https://www.gofundme.com/f/enterprise-hardcore-podcast-video-equipment https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://guerillapress.bigcartel.com/ https://instagram.com/risk_hc --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 84- Rat Poison (Paul Glover)
For Episode 84 I'm joined by Paul Glover from the band Rat Poison. I had a Rat Poison track on Episode 80 and I got to talking with Paul a little bit and figured it would be cool to have him on a future episode. The conversation centers around his current band Rat Poison, but we also talk about his previous band Where It Ends. There's also a lot of talk about the South Carolina Hardcore scene over the last 25 years. I'm including links to the Rat Poison bandcamp and Instagram with the show notes to this episode.  https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://instagram.com/ratpoisonhc?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= https://ratpoisonhc.bandcamp.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 83- Bent Blue (Tony, Diego, Shane)
For Episode 83, I'm joined by Tony, Diego, and Shane of the band Bent Blue. Based out of San Diego, the band formed a relationship early on in the pandemic with War Records and they're doing another release with them later this Summer. The record is titled Where Do Ripples Go and we talk about the process of putting that record together over the last year. We also talk about the formation of the band and what kind of influences they were bringing to the table to produce an eclectic melodic hardcore sound. Bent Blue also has a short east coast tour lined up at the end of July. You can check their Instagram page for information on upcoming shows. I'm also including the link to order their new record Where Do Ripples Go in the show notes. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://war-rec.com/collections/all https://instagram.com/bent.blue?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 82- Jeremy Smith (Halfmast, No Reason, The Control, Dead Hearts, Tuning)
While I try to keep an eye on the current scene, the bulk of this podcast has focused on the 90s and 2000s in hardcore and punk. During those years, Jeremy Smith played in a lot of influential Buffalo bands. For Episode 82, we had a lengthy discussion centered around five of the bands Jeremy has been a part of, including his current band Tuning. We also talk about Jeremy's early years, growing up listening to heavy metal bands before eventually finding punk and hardcore. Jeremy played in bands in Buffalo for about two decades before moving out to California. The main bands we talk about on this episode are Halfmast, No Reason, The Control, Dead Hearts, and Tuning. In the show notes, I'm including links to Jeremy's current band Tuning, as well as his podcast and Instagram account. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://open.spotify.com/artist/03RZCO1tARNXkn3SY99SF3?si=mpvbNMKFSqyd2zzaoYs95Q&utm_source=copy-link https://tuning.bandcamp.com/ https://instagram.com/tuninghc?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= https://instagram.com/jdscontrol?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= https://open.spotify.com/show/5EfX2AWqmqhsbh4k2XJNSD?si=9pFp0jOQQAKHFTdi7ctIcg&utm_source=copy-link   --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 81: Travis Hance (Hermon Dekalb, Darker Day Tomorrow, The Funeral)
For Episode 81 I am joined on the podcast by Travis Hance. Travis is probably most known for a few of the bands he played in while living in Syracuse in the early 2000s. These bands include Hermon Dekalb, Darker Day Tomorrow, and The Funeral. We spend a bulk of the conversation talking about these bands and Syracuse Hardcore in general. Before that though, Travis talks of growing up in the really small town of Brasher Falls, NY (really northern New York, near Potsdam University) and building a scene and playing in bands around there. I didn't realize before the interview that Travis had grown up with Andre Foisy (Break of Dawn) and played in a band with him growing up. We talk about that, as well as them jamming together currently for a new project. Travis is living in Albany now so that comes up during the conversation a few times, as well as him taking on a career in tattoo removal. We talk about many other subjects during our conversation, including addiction, violence at shows, spirituality and its connection to hardcore. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 80- New Music (15 songs from Berthold City, Terror, Bent Blue, Powerhouse, and many more).
For Episode 80 I am bringing you new music for the first time in five months. We have 15 different bands from all over the US on here. In fact, I have already started compiling tracks for another new music episode this Summer. There's definitely no shortage of new music within our subculture currently. Here's the list of 15 bands that appear on this episode: Berthold City, Rig Time, Rat Poison, Only Shallow, Risk, Mean Jesus, Spent, Terror, Pure Bliss, Powerhouse, No End, Heavy is the Head, Bent Blue, The Path, and Gone Wrong. With so many bands on this episode it would be impossible for me to include links to everything. I included one link per band in the show notes, usually either ordering or bandcamp info. Also I mentioned in the episode that the Bent Blue record was likely only on resale sites at this point. It would appear as though War Records still has a few left in their store. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://bertholdcityhc.bandcamp.com/ https://www.stateofmindrecordings.com/ https://ratpoisonhc.bandcamp.com/ https://onlyshallowhc.bandcamp.com/album/spring-promo-22 https://riskmvhc.bandcamp.com/ https://meanjesusva.bandcamp.com/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=PQz2JKCOmxw&feature=emb_title https://purenoise.merchnow.com/collections/terror https://open.spotify.com/album/5chzWAetWZcEUXHTx29SY6?si=17Vt294bSq27jH-qEH8smw&utm_source=copy-link https://www.upstaterecordsny.com/product-page/powerhouse-renegades-red-vinyl https://noend.bandcamp.com/releases http://ggtrecords.limitedrun.com/products/720877-heavy-is-the-head-high-pressure-7 https://war-rec.com/products/bent-blue-between-your-and-youre-teal-vinyl-out-of-100 https://stateofmindrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/the-path-gone-wrong --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 79- Travis Johansen (Borderline, The Hue of Two, Joywave, Pomelo, Kopps)
One thing I've always loved about Rochester is the diversity and originality of our bands. In the last two decades, Travis Johansen has been a part of many of these diverse bands. Greg Benoit (Rochester Hardcore History) and I had the privilege of interviewing Travis for this episode. We talk about some of his earlier projects, as well as all of the notable bands Travis has been in. The bands we talked about include Borderline, The Hue of Two, Science vs Witchcraft, Joywave, Pomelo, and Kopps. Travis also has some of the more interesting tour stories to hit the podcast in a while. This episode was also recorded one day after the tragic shooting that occurred in Buffalo on Saturday May 14. We talk about our feelings in this at the beginning of the episode. There will be plenty more discussion on topics like this moving forward with this podcast. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://m.soundcloud.com/rochesterhardcorehistory https://www.instagram.com/rochesterhardcorehistory #Enterprisehardcorepodcast #Rochester #IndieRock #TheHueofTwo #Joywave #Kopps #Pomelo #HardcoreMusic #PunkRock #screamo #MusicPodcast #Podcast #Patreon #Punk #Pod #punkrock   --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 78- Tom Ranger (Eternal Youth, Trouble Loves Me, Attitude, Glue, Popular Music)
Recently I have been trying to get more Syracuse interviews for the podcast. I've been wanting to learn more about the history of the scene there, as well as how straight edge got to be so influential there. I knew Tom Ranger would be able to tell me a lot about how this city built such a dynamic scene over the years. Tom has been a part of the scene there for over 35 years and he even talks about the first show he went to. It sounds like that show was a first show for a lot of people in Syracuse. We spent about the first half of our conversation talking about the Syracuse scene from 1986-1997 before we started talking about the bands Tom has been in. We also talked about alll of the media attention the straight edge scene was getting around 25 years ago. When I first met Tom, he was singing in the band Eternal Youth. We discuss Tom's other bands as well, including Trouble Loves Me, Attitude, Glue, and Popular Music. The connection between Rochester and Syracuse is discussed on the podcast again with Tom's bands. We also talk about the extensive touring Tom did with Attitude, including some of the first Sound and Fury fests and two trips to Europe. This is definitely one of the more informative conversations I have had on the podcast in a while. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 77: Miles Between Us (Matt Ford, Solly, Matt LaForge)
It took 77 episodes, but we have finally ventured up to the great white north. Miles Between Us was a band from Ottawa that I had the pleasure of working with on my record label over 20 years ago. For this discussion, I was joined by Matt Ford, Matt LaForge, and Adam aka Solly. Everything from the demo to the full length was discussed in this deep dive. We also talked about playing early shows with bands like Count Me Out, No Warning, and American Nightmare. We talk about how they ended up releasing their full length through Think Fast records, a label that became pretty well known in hardcore around that time. This is one of the funniest interviews I've done in a while, with plenty of funny stories mixed into the interview. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 76- Nate Derby (Such Gold, Heavy Hearted, The Weight We Carry, Holy War)
Episode 76 features a conversation with Nate Derby. If you have been a part of the music scene in the Rochester area in the last two decades, you are likely familiar with some of the bands Nate has been a part of. We talked about his early beginnings in Canandaigua, helping put on shows locally at All Things Art and playing with some local bands. Nate eventually joined Heavy Hearted. The most notable of Nate's bands that we discussed in depth on this episode was Such Gold. Nate detailed how Covid derailed most of their 2020 and 2021. We didn't get much of a chance to talk about The Weight We Carry, Holy War, and a few other Such Gold topics. I'll probably do a part two with Nate later this year. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 75- Tom Cavanaugh (Blood Runs Black, Hermon Dekalb, Darker Day Tomorrow, Santa Sangre)
For Episode 75 I had a conversation with Tom Cavanaugh. We mostly talked about his time playing in bands in Syracuse. The bands we discuss include Blood Runs Black, Hermon Dekalb, Darker Day Tomorrow, and Santa Sangre. This is the first time that I can think of that I've interviewed someone who was on tour over 2000 miles away from home when 9/11 happened. Tom also has a really cool story about becoming friends with the band Overcast in the 1990s. Fast forward about a decade and Mike from Overcast was now playing in Killswitch Engage. Tom talks about how he ended up becoming the guitar tech for Killswitch Engage for many years, leading to him traveling the world with the band. I'm sure I could have made an entire episode just asking him questions about all of the people he met and experiences he had during these years. I also could have spent an entire episode asking Tom about all of the classic Syracuse Hardcore bills some of his bands were on. Blood Runs Black played some pretty legendary New Year's Day shows, among others. Tom has been living in South Florida for about 20 years and has also even played with a couple bands down there. We also talked about how Santa Sangre has taken on a second life some two decades later, with Closed Casket Activities reissuing their LP. I'm including the link for that as well as the limited cassette that Buske also recently released in the show notes. As always, you can support the podcast on Patreon for as low as $1 per month. https://closedcasketactivities.com/products/santa-sangre-feast-for-the-new-gods https://buskedesign.bigcartel.com/product/santa-sangre-feast-for-the-new-gods-cassette https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore  https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 74: Abnegation (Dave Steele and Iggy Imig)
For Episode 74, I'm welcoming Dave Steele and Iggy Imig from Abnegation to discuss the band. We talk about the history of the band as well as what the scene was like during the early 1990s when Abnegation formed. Iggy also had some pretty outspoken lyrics in their earlier material and we talk about what kind of reaction they would get from people that were otherwise friendly. We discuss the evolution of their sound, as they started to develop more and more metal influences. The Abnegation reunion is also brought up throughout the conversation. The reunion they are playing in May is sold out so hopefully there will be a couple more shows eventually.  https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore   --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 73: Bad Business (Shawn Creeden, Dan Bress, Brandon Carmo, Jeff Walter)
One of the main focuses of this podcast has been documenting Rochester/Buffalo/Syracuse Hardcore from 20-25 years ago. I've made it a point to cover newer bands and people as well, but I consider the aforementioned years to be some of my more formative years. My favorite Rochester Hardcore bands came along during these years, and I was lucky enough to see Bad Business develop behind the scenes from the beginning. One common theme of this interview is friendship. A lot of Rochester bands during this era were formed by close friends and Bad Business was definitely one of those bands. Before they were even a band, all of us were traveling together all over NY, PA, and other parts of the Northeast. In late 2001, Dan, Brandon, and Jeff decided to form a straight edge band. They asked Shawn to join as their vocalist and the band was off to the races. This interview chronicles the whole four years the band was together, from the first two shows in early 2002, until the last show and reunion in 2006 and 2007. We talk about their recordings, tours (and a few crazy stories from them), the Rochester scene, and how Bad Business ended up on the cover of Maximum Rock N Roll. I hope everyone enjoys this conversation as much as I did. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://m.soundcloud.com/rochesterhardcorehistory --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 72- Adam Vernick (Witness, No Goal, Lemuria, How We Are)
For Episode 72 I'm welcoming Adam Vernick to the podcast for the first time. Adam has a pretty diverse list of bands he has played in over the years. For this episode, we talked about all of the bands he was a part of in Rochester and Buffalo. The bands we discussed are To Fester Within, Can I Say, Still Ill, No Goal, Witness, Of Wolves, How We Are, False Positive, and Lemuria. Adam also talks about relocating with his family back to Rochester during the pandemic. As always, there's plenty of talk about early 2000s Rochester Hardcore mixed in the conversation. I'm going to have Adam on again later this year to talk about the bands he played while he was living in Seattle. Lastly, Adam wanted me to mention he was listening to the song "No Regrets" from the band Warzone right before we started doing the interview. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://twitter.com/podcasthardcore https://m.soundcloud.com/rochesterhardcorehistory --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 71- Colin Mraz (Deal With God, Misgiver, Sinkhole)
One of my favorite bands to come out in the last two years is Deal With God from Syracuse. I had their vocalist Dylan on the podcast back on Episode 48 and I knew I'd have their bassist Colin Mraz on eventually. Similar to Dylan, Colin recently moved to Syracuse in the last couple years. Colin and I talk about his time in Binghamton, fronting the bands Sinkhole and Misgiver. As someone who booked a ton of shows in Rochester 20-25 years ago, I was pretty excited to talk to Colin about his experience booking shows in Binghamton before he moved to Syracuse. Finally, we talk about what Deal With God has been up to over the last few months. Deal With God are opening for Buried Alive in Syracuse on April 8th and they are playing at The Bug Jar in Rochester on April 23 as part of the Undeath record release show. I'm putting the Deal With God bandcamp in the show notes. https://dealwithgod.bandcamp.com/releases --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Episode 70- Nate Golia (Stars Shall Fall, Warblade, Of Wolves, The Red Death)
In yet another trip down memory lane, I am joined by Nate Golia for Episode 70. Sticking with a common theme of the podcast, I got to catch up with an old friend and reminisce on Rochester Hardcore, mainly the early 2000s era. We talk about the bands Nate was a part of, including Stars Shall Fall, Warblade, Of Wolves, and The Red Death. We also talk about the band Nate has been working on with a few people from Rochester, Newark, and Syracuse tentatively called Worldpurge. As always, a lot of memories and anecdotes are mixed in the conversation as well. We also talk about a couple embarrassing mosh memories. There's a few classic Rochester Hardcore shows from the early 2000s that get brought up again. Like I said in the intro to the episode, I'm still just scratching the surface on interviewing guests from what I consider the Golden Age of Rochester Hardcore. You can find music from Stars Shall Fall, Of Wolves and many classic Rochester bands on the Rochester Hardcore SoundCloud.
