Shrovetide 2019: let's try Russian pancakes!!!
Our team of Vladivostok English News made a bite of Russian traditional pancakes. This week Russians say goodbye to winter by frying lots of pancakes, visiting relatives and  burning a straw effigy of winter. Enjoy this time with us - and read our step-by-step guide to  follow these traditions. Last week Russia celebrated Maslenitsa, or pancake week, which is followed by Great Lent (40  days of fasting) starting on March 11. For many in the country it was the last chance to eat  red-blooded meat, seafood with backbones, and dairy products, as the Orthodox Church dictates. So, as you can imagine, believers and non-believers alike wasted no time in using the holiday  as an excuse to gorge themselves on pancakes, or bliny. The collective sizzle of batter  hitting hot pans could be heard across the country. Only your imagination can hold you back when choosing which toppings to slather over bliny.  Anything goes, including jam, sickly sweet condensed milk, berries, stewed cabbage, smoked  salmon, red and black caviar, minced meat... One of the symbols of Maslenitsa is a straw doll, which is burned on the last day of the  celebration, so some Russians decided to create their own dolls by draping Barbies in bliny to  mimic national costumes. Also, please LIKE, SHARE and COMMENT on our videos! We really appreciate it. Thanks! Team: Arthur O. Episode 18 - 18 December 2018 - Walking to Lighthouse (Маяк_-Mayak-), Vladivostok City. December 2018
Our team of Vladivostok English News made a short walk to Vl Lighthouse.  One of the attractions of Vladivostok is the Tokarev lighthouse on Cape  Egersheld. It is one of the oldest lighthouses of the Far Eastern seas  and was founded in 1876. The lighthouse is located on the Tokarevsky  cat, which departs from the Cape of Tokarevsky located on the Shkot  peninsula better known as Egersheld.   Tokarevsky Lighthouse on the Cape - Egersheld is a favorite vacation  spot for both guests and residents of Vladivostok. Near the lighthouse  parking area and stalls with fast food. The lighthouse is one of the  places where you can enjoy both the sunset and the sunrise, from here  you can also see a beautiful view of the city of Vladivostok, Russky  Island and the bridge connecting them. A visit to the lighthouse can be  combined with a walk along the Sportivnaya Embankment and the center of  Vladivostok.  Near the Tokarev lighthouse there is a beach, one part is paid, the  other is free. On the paid part of the beach there are sun loungers,  benches, awnings and gazebos. The beach has a play area for children,  with slides and trampolines. Entrance to the beach 150 rubles. In the  summer, various festivals and parties are often held near the  lighthouse.  You can get to the Tokarevsky lighthouse on Cape Egersheld by bus: 59,  60, 62, 81 or by minibus: 57, 63.  You can get off at the final stop  Mayak, but then you have to walk down the road for about 1.5 km, walk  all the time the main road, the lighthouse and the power transmission  line installed next to it will be visible on the left as you go. But of  course, if possible, it is better to take a taxi to the lighthouse,  because go on foot from the stop still far away. See the location of the  lighthouse on the map.  Near the final stop "Mayak" is an observation deck with an installed  monument A.I. Shchetinina - the first woman in the world to a sea  captain. From the observation deck overlooking Vladivostok and the  bridge on the Russian island.  When visiting Tokarevsky lighthouse, it is necessary to remember about  the ebb and flow, since during strong tides or waves the scythe floods,  in this case it is necessary to walk on the water.   Copyright: http://na7dney.ru   Place: Tokarevsky Lighthouse (Mayak), Vladivostok  Camera: Apple Iphone X   Date: 20th of December 2018 VLADENews' Youtube channel: https://vk.cc/8Njr78 VLADENews' Audio podcast: http://vladivostokenglishnews.ru VLADENews' Telegram: https://t.me/joinchat/A0BhkxSI7rHnffi57ZDXmg VLADENews' instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vladivostok_english_news/ VLADENews' vk: https://vk.com/vladivostokenglishnews Team: Arthur O. Episode 17 - 18 december 2018 - WALKING AROUND VLADIVOSTOK. Warm december in Russia. Tsesarevich Emb
16.12.2018 Short walk around Tsesarevich Embankment and Promenade. Tsesarevich Promenade Today the team of Vladivostok English News (Arthur O. Nwabufo and Ekaterina Gritsenko) join the Tsesarevich Seafront and Promenade in Vladivostok. The Tsesarevich Embankment, located not far from the center, between the bridge across the Golden Horn Bay and Dalzavod, is the youngest embankment of Vladivostok. It opened in the fall of 2012 and immediately became one of the most popular places for walks and recreation of residents and guests of the seaside capital. This picturesque walking zone got its name in honor of the Russian emperor Nicholas II, who in May 1891, while still a crown prince, visited Vladivostok. The visit of the future monarch was planned in the framework of his round-the-world voyage, the sea part of which ended in Vladivostok. The crown prince was scheduled to appear in the city in June, however, due to the assassination attempt in Japan, he arrived almost a month earlier. Nevertheless, he managed to take part in all the events planned for his arrival, including the laying of a dry dock on the territory of the mechanical workshops, which later became the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Repair Center, which is today one of the oldest enterprises in the city. Part of the territory of the plant in the future and became the Tsesarevich Embankment. It represents a single architectural ensemble, harmoniously inscribed in the historical environment of the Vladivostok center. There is a spacious walking area, which is suitable not only for leisurely walks, but also for cycling, rollerblading and skateboarding. Right in the center of the embankment is a large playground, made in the form of a ship, with numerous slides, rope ladders and swings. The Tsesarevich Embankment is interesting for several original architectural objects. Here is a giant chessboard, a species platform "Bridge of Love", where lovers hang locks as a sign of their feelings, and the so-called Reconciliation Bed. The latter is a metal frame with carved flourishes, on which lies a wooden bed, made in the form of two inclined planes converging to the center with the phrase “I love you” engraved on them in thirty languages of the world. According to the authors, thanks to this design, quarreling lovers, crouching on the bed, will inevitably slide into the arms of each other. Next to the bed is a floor lamp, which illuminates it in the dark. The embankment is also decorated with a complex of reservoirs with dynamic fountains. There are also various shops, cafes and restaurants where you can eat, as well as entertainment centers. For those who come to the embankment on their own cars, there is ample parking. From the Tsesarevich Embankment there are breathtaking views of the new bridge, the sea and the ships moored in the Golden Horn Bay. How to get there. On any public transport route which passes through Svetlanskaya Street. Go to the stop "Lazo". Episode 14 - 9 december 2018 - The importance of Vladivostok. Tourism. Development. Great possibilit
Welcome to Vladivostok: The most developing Russian City on the Far East. In that video we gonna talk about possibilities, tourism and collaboration. In the family of Russian cities, Vladivostok is a wayward son: the kid who had all the opportunities but couldn’t quite get his act together. Vladik should be thriving—a port city on the edge of Asia—but every year 5,000 Russians move west, to Moscow or Petersburg, while Chinese workers move in. Traffic is bad. Water shut-offs are common. Accommodation can be expensive, catering to visiting businessmen or groups of Chinese tourists. The restaurant/café scene is, for a city of such international locale, a little bleak. But Vladivostok is an extraordinary place. China, the Koreas, and Japan are nearby, much nearer than even Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia. Moscow is a full nine hours away by air. But despite the Japanese cars clogging the streets, Vladivostok remains distinctly Russian. It also happens to be one of Russia’s greatest wandering cities. So walk. Sopki, long-dead volcanic hills, give the city patchwork layer-cake effect. Buildings rise from different levels and eras: a gutted wooden house at the foot of a Krushchevsky apartment block, then a shiny new casino, and beyond that, sea and sky. On Pushkin Street the American Consulate’s next door neighbor is a burnt-out shell. Wherever you walk, you’re going up or down, and it’s a rare moment when you can’t get a glimpse of the sea. Vladivostok is also a city where you can get away without leaving. Visit the Botanical Gardens and keep walking—you’re in the taiga. Explore the hills. Dug in are stone forts, with more on nearby Russky Island. If you want secluded beaches, you’ll have to make a small effort, but they’re out there too. The video made by Mr. Arthur O. Episode 8 --- Black Friday Sales
This week is rich for events. One is the Thanks giving day, which is an American holiday and the Black Friday sale, the new thing that penetrated in our Russian reality recently. Year by year it becomes more popular to make big Black Friday Sale in more and more stores. Besides, this year you can see Black Friday Sales in some restaurants and cafes. In addition, in some stores it is lasting during the whole week, not only on Friday. The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia. In the 1960's, police in Philadelphia griped about the congested streets, clogged with motorists and pedestrians, calling it “Black Friday.” In a non-retail sense, it also describes a financial crisis of 1869: a stock market catastrophe set off by gold spectators who tried and failed to corner the gold market, causing the market to collapse and stocks to plummet. Why is it called Black Friday? The term “Black Friday” (in the retail sense) was coined in the 1960s to mark the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season. “Black” refers to stores moving from the “red” to the “black,” back when accounting records were kept by hand, and red ink indicated a loss, and black a profit. Ever since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the Friday after Thanksgiving has been known as the unofficial start to a bustling holiday shopping season.
