Relationship Building and Networking for Success with Carrie Murray
Today's Elite Achievement guest is a speaker, host of the Get Carried Away podcast and an expert on networking and creating a community. Carrie Murray earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and her Master’s degree in Social Justice. After becoming a court advocate, she helped victims understand their rights and navigate the judicial system. She later became a teacher, an administrator, and a principal. In 2011, she started Prestique Academy, a school for twice-exceptional kids, all before leading her to where she is now as the founder of the BRA network. BRA stands for Business Relationship Alliance and is a network of powerful female entrepreneurs devoted to advancing women-owned businesses. Highlights 03:03 - I really wanted us to create a space where women didn't look at each other as competition, but as collaborators. And here we were hiring each other, working together, kind of keeping the money flowing between us. 08:49 - But if you are a branding expert, your best friend should be a photographer. Your best friend should be a videographer, a website designer. 10:58 - I think honestly, you have to be genuinely curious. And I really am. I'm really like, tell me more about what made you go into speaking for diversity and inclusion, what made you want to do law or be an accountant? Like, I'm really curious. And you have to be. If not, it kind of comes off a little bit fake. 21:39 - I think it's for when you're struggling. And you can be vulnerable. You have a safe place to be like, I don't know what I'm doing. Or, I've decided to leave this and now I'm going to do this. But it's that feeling of being accepted and vulnerable. Turning Your Passion Into a Multi-Million Dollar Business with Beate Chelette
Today's Elite Achievement guest is a former photo editor at Elle magazine in Germany. As a first-generation immigrant, she got herself out of $135,000 of debt by bootstrapping her passion for photography into a successful global business that she eventually sold to Bill Gates in a multi-million dollar deal. Beate Chelette is the Growth Architect and Founder of The Women’s Code. Beate provides visionaries and leaders with strategies and results-oriented, tangible tools and techniques to improve business systems as well as strengthen leadership skills and teams so that you can scale your impact. In this episode, Beate shares her business journey and how it eventually turned into a multi-million dollar deal, as well as other business tips and insights. Highlights: 05:51 – I fell on my knees, and I raised my fist, and I yelled at God for 2 minutes. And I said to him, if you have a plan this would be a really excellent time to fill me in, thank you very much. And then you surrender. 08:28 – I decided that I was not going to drown in a puddle. Because it's not worth it, drowning in a puddle. If you drown, you drown in the ocean, at least it's a better story. And I learned that I had to be very precise on how much time I was going to allocate to worrying about things that I could not change at that moment. 19:40 - I think most entrepreneurs are thinking that doing an incremental growth plan is the sensible thing to do. When we are building a business, the idea is not incremental growth. The idea is quantum leaps. 30:23 – Yes, that is the key: the attachment to the money invested in one strategy, and then holding on to that strategy until the ship sinks. Not every strategy is going to work. You're going to have to allocate money, two different strategies with the idea, like an investor. Breaking the Rules as an Overachiever with Heather Whelpley
Today's Elite Achievement guest is an expert on imposter syndrome and perfectionism. She has inspired thousands of individuals at various companies and conferences across the United States through her keynote speeches and webinars. Heather Whelpley is a speaker, author, and consultant who helps women let go of other people's expectations and instead make their own rules for life. Heather published her first book An Overachievers Guide to Breaking the Rules in 2020. In this episode, Kristin and Heather dig deeper into topics such as the inner critic vs. the true inner voice, manic mode, how to set boundaries, and much more. Highlights 06:24 It's always been this balance between self-reflection and outward action. Because I learned through doing both that if I'm completely missing the quiet and the space and the self-reflection, then I can take actions that are not really aligned to who I am, and that true inner voice, and my own values. But if I'm only doing self-reflection, then I'm not learning from others. 08:31 That was certainly true for me that I was trying to prove at least a part of my worth as a human through this external achievement by getting things done, by doing them well, by having them validated by other people. 11:24 So I think the first step in defining what success means to you is starting to unravel what it doesn't mean to you. To understand the definition that you've been given and sifting through what part of that works for you, and what doesn't. Because it's not about throwing it all out the window. It's about looking at it and saying, of what was given to me or what I've learned over the years, what still holds true for me now, and what doesn't hold true for me? 13:43 In every part of my business, even though I was in year one, I still felt like I was behind where I was supposed to be.  33:16 The problem is, the true inner voice is very strong but it's not always loud. And especially when we aren't used to listening to it, or it's kind of been trained out of us not to listen to it.  Connect with Kristin https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) https://kristinburke.com/breakout-plan (Breakout Plan) Connect with Heatherhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/heatherwhelpley?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_profile_view_base_contact_details%3BHpK5vj2dTiabmenyFVB5aA%3D%3D (LinkedIn) https://heatherwhelpley.com/ (Website) https://www.heatherwhelpley.com/speaking (Speaking & Webinar Info) https://www.heatherwhelpley.com/book (Book)

Think Big and Go Big with Julia Pimsleur
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin interviews Julia Pimsleur. Julia is a scaling coach, mindset expert, speaker and bestselling author. She is also the founder of Million Dollar Women, an education platform and community that is helping one million women achieve $1M in revenues.  Tune in to this episode as Julia talks about how she started building Million Dollar Women, shares the meaning and importance behind scaling a business and more ideas on how to become a successful entrepreneur. Highlights 02:53 – You need to be more than smart and driven and determined to succeed in the business world. 07:42 – Once you know these terms and how they work — what is scalable, what is not scalable? It's very obvious, and you want to help as many people figure it out as possible because it's a game changer. 11:28 – I always like to say you can only grow your business as big as you can grow yourself. 12:57 – Most people don't understand the entrepreneurial life except for entrepreneurs. So, while you don't have to ditch your friends in corporate America, you should definitely find an intentional community of people who really get what you're going through and can help you navigate the tough times and celebrate the good times. How to Hire with Amber Gray
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin interviews Amber Gray who is the Founder and CEO of Trusty Oak, a virtual assistant agency based in Austin, TX. Under Amber’s leadership, Trusty Oak was named the top freelancer hiring platform of the year and led Amber to be named Austin’s top businesswoman of the year, both in 2021. Join us as we discuss the process of hiring a virtual assistant and much more. Amber talks about her experiences before she started building her agency as well as their core values and what services they offer at Trusty Oak. She also shares her hiring best practices and common hiring mistakes to avoid. Highlights 07:23 – I did apply for a job and they said “You're overqualified for this position” and I had a light bulb moment that I could start a business that does this. 09:31 – Now I'm taking home a decent salary, but still not where I want to be, but it's still something that I can be proud of. 11:57 – So the number one thing to think about is that you need to know what you need first. 14:23 – A lot of people do want to work in remote, flexible jobs and we want the best of the best, so aligning for values is the main thing. Skills can be learned, especially if you’re resourceful. 28:47 – My mission statement is “500 virtual assistants have sustainable jobs and we want to support entrepreneurs to thrive and not experience burn out.” Connect with Kristin https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) https://kristinburke.com/breakout-plan (Breakout Plan) Connect with Amber https://www.linkedin.com/in/ambergrayatx/ (LinkedIn) https://trustyoak.com/ (Website)

How to Support Your Partner in Business and Other Relationship Advice with Joe Burke
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin interviews her husband Joe Burke. Joe runs a golf company in Southern California. He is smart with numbers and able to separate the emotions from business decisions, making him one of Kristin’s most trusted business consultants. Join us as we discuss how Kristin and Joe met, how a couple can learn to grow together, the importance of communication, dealing with conflicts, and how to support one another as a couple. Joe also gives advice on how one can support their partner in business and learn to adjust to a new lifestyle with an entrepreneur, as well as what “fighting for the good days” means to him. Episode Highlights 06:28 As far as telling people how to grow together, I don’t think there’s a secret recipe behind it. I think it’s how much you’re willing to give each other. 18:56 Everybody always used to ask what the key to success for our relationship was, and I kind of joke but I said it was our time apart. We’re both very strong, independent people and we get to spend a lot of great time together, but we also have our own space. 22:05 At the end of the day, all the way from high school to college to your early business career to mine, and to where we are today, we motivate each other and ultimately want to succeed for each other. 25:01 I’m not a ”grass is greener on the other side” kind of a person but I think that there’s always bigger, better opportunities out there if you’re willing to open your eyes, see them and look for them, and then put the work in. 30:32 We have to fight for those good days. We have to put in the groundwork and the day-to-day work to have those moments that are spectacular. On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin interviews Itika Oldwine, the owner of Oldvine Florals in Los Angeles and Oldvine Fragrance. Join us as we discuss what it is like to design floral arrangements for A-list events and celebrities, how the pandemic required Itika to revolutionize her business model and what it's like to launch a second business as a new momma. Itika talks about business challenges, progress and goals, what inspires her when she’s creating her beautiful floral arrangements, building trust with her clients and customers and much more. 07:00 As a creative I just follow what I feel, and it turns out to be beautiful. 09:17 I know people are depending on me and I don't want to let them down. It is being able to look at that person and say, “I did the best that I could do for you.” 15:55 For me, failure is not an option. We’re going to get to what we have to get to to make sure everything is successful. 20:23 A lot of times, people don’t ask. They have this assumption that they’ll be bothering people or others aren’t going to do it as well. I ask for a lot of help. 22:24 If you have an idea, if you’re passionate about something, if you work really hard, if you surround yourself with great people then whatever you want to accomplish, you can do it. The Power of Mindset with Desiree Maya
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces us to Desiree Maya who has over 15 years of consulting experience and is a credentialed Transformational Coach. Desiree focuses on helping her clients crush their self-limiting beliefs and embrace the unique individuals that they are. She is also the host of the Born Unbreakable podcast where she features inspirational guests with unbreakable spirits and stories of perseverance and growth.  Today, Desiree joins us to talk about how you can use your mindset in achieving your goals. She shares some stories about her journey as a coach and helping other people. Desiree also talks about building confidence, how to fight negative thoughts, how to handle your limiting beliefs and much more. Desiree also shares some great advice when it comes to building your success.  Episode Highlights 05:48 My motto is to be unapologetically you and I think I had to go on my own journey with that before I could believe it myself. 09:24 We're not here to satisfy everyone's desires of what they want for us. We're here to be the best version of ourselves and enrich the lives of those around us. Those who accept us and don't judge us are the ones that are meant to be there. 11:38 Being in a state of curiosity means that you can ask questions that open a dialogue of being in a space of mutual understanding. Most times, people don't have mal intent, it's just that they don't have the context or enough information to understand where you lie. 13:11 The first thing that I'd say about confidence is that it starts from the inside out. 26:47 It's easy for us to see other people at their best, and to see ourselves at our worst, because we know what that darkness looks like. We've been there.  31:45 I think that people are here because they want to challenge themselves and they're okay, even if they're a little scared to be uncomfortable. Achieving a BHAG with Nisu Patel
Hey goal achievers, happy new year! On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces us to Nisu Patel who is a Financial Advisor and Growth & Development Director at Northwestern Mutual. Last year, Nisu was honored as one of Northwestern Mutual’s top financial planning advisors in the country. He is the second youngest advisor to achieve this esteemed forum status and is the youngest within his home state of Alabama.  Today, Nisu gives us some of his best advice when it comes to achieving big goals. He talks about his journey from growing up around small businesses to becoming a successful financial advisor.  Episode Highlights 03:35 There were a lot of lessons I took away. There were some lessons that I wanted to replicate that I had seen, but then there were also lessons that I observed that I wanted to make sure I avoided as well.  09:45 In 2021 I went back to being a solo entrepreneur and solo business owner, and that forced me to focus on the most important variables and the variables that drove action in my business. This allowed me to be laser-focused and that laser focus, that kind of dedication, also raised my self-awareness within my business.  16:30 For me, having faith, trusting the process, having a game plan and believing in what you're doing allows you to be more abundant. 18:40 I think when you're talking about people and surrounding yourself with mentors, it's important to understand who they are and where they're at in life. 21:38 Investing in my business helped me accelerate my goals and timelines, and the growth that I've had.  31:07 I think it's important to put pen to paper and set deadlines during your thinking time. 33:57 I've got to make sure that I'm feeding my mind good fuel, because whatever we're dripping into our brain, that becomes reality.  Connect with Kristin  https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) Connect with Nisu https://www.instagram.com/ni5u_p/ (Instagram) https://www.linkedin.com/in/nisupatel/ (LinkedIn)

Top Lessons of 2021
On the last episode of Elite Achievement for 2021, we are diving into the top lessons Kristin learned throughout the year. Reflecting is a critical element in the goal-setting process. It’s important to keep in touch with what you’ve learned as well as the habits and behaviors you want to let go of.  Tune in to this insightful episode and learn from Kristin as she shares what has helped her grow personally and professionally this year. Make sure to look back and think about your own habits and behaviors that helped you evolve throughout 2021 so you’ll be able to take them with you for the coming year. Episode Highlights 03:01 I’ve learned a long time ago that intentionally pausing is really helpful for me to get clear on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.  03:55 Sometimes we can get so caught up in what we didn't achieve that we lose sight of the bigger picture. 05:39 By brainstorming to get this process going, I removed the pressure of figuring it all out at once and I gave myself dedicated time to get clear on what I really wanted to create.  07:17 Learn to recognize the difference between push and flow.  09:09 In order to remain in flow, I'm learning to lean into my intuition more. I'm learning to trust myself more. I'm learning I need to stop looking outside of myself for answers, and start looking within for what works for my business. 13:52 Once I realized that the people I hire have more time and the skillset to complete the task I'm hiring them for, it really helped me embrace delegation.  18:28 I know for me that business development alleviates stress and anxiety. 21:46 I encourage you to shift your perspective of tracking and move away from shame and judgement, and move towards perspective and understanding. 23:30 You can also make changes to leading indicators. If you're tracking them and you see you're not getting the results, you can start to pivot and make changes. Advancing Your Career with Nicole Case
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces us to Nicole Case who is a career and leadership coach for women leaders in the corporate world who are looking for a career upgrade. Nicole gives us a lot of amazing advice especially for those women who need help in deciding whether they want to transition in their career. Nicole talks about different topics from boundaries to feeling stagnant in your career, and much more.  Episode Highlights 02:13 I saw what the conversation was and what corporate executives valued in a leader. I noticed that it was kind of disconnected to what a lot of women thought they needed to get ahead.  03:46 I noticed that the systems and routines that I had put in place in my corporate job did not necessarily translate to being a solopreneur or business owner.  08:10 We don’t always give ourselves that grace, as the work that we’re doing as coaches requires a lot of thinking. We’re pouring ourselves into our clients.  10:30 Make sure you communicate clearly about what your expectations are and what your boundaries are.  17:03 I think we are all influenced by our upbringing and the values that our parents brought to us. As adults, we have to reflect on whether those are still the values we want to continue to take forward with us.  19:46 Hitting a plateau is super normal in everyone’s career.  24:04 Getting feedback is so critical in this stage because we are so deep into our own careers and into our own performance, that sometimes having a third party to give you a different perspective is really helpful.  30:39 The first thing for you to do as a leader is to ask your team and not make assumptions of what they need.  36:22 If you want to show up as more authentic in your corporate role, the first thing you need to know is yourself.  Connect with Kristin  https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) Connect with Nicole https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicolercase/ (LinkedIn) http://www.nicolecasecoaching.com/ (Website)

Finding Your Authentic Brand Messaging with Kathy Young
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces us to Kathy Young, the founder of  Rekindle Communications - a copywriting studio that breathes life into your message one word  at a time. Kathy brings her 2+ years of marketing agency experience to ambitious yet  hustle-averse creatives who value connections as much as they do conversions.   Kathy shares her expertise on different topics from branding to authenticity and much more.  Episode Highlights:  04:19 My mission is to help really thoughtful entrepreneurs grow their business through  connection, using words and through copywriting and brand messaging.   07:47 I just feel a lot more excited to show up for work and the work that I'm doing. I'm excited to  learn about my craft now.  09:20 I think now, people are starting to understand that social media is about connection at the  end of the day.  11:30 When it comes to finding that balance between both, it has to really start with knowing  what you want to talk about and then also knowing what your audience needs.  13:40 I think I've come to a point in my copywriting where I can take the stance that you need a  brand message to be impactful, period, in some type of way, shape or form.  20:00 A lot of times we're investing in people because of their values and because we align with  them.  26:52 I think the biggest thing with a lead magnet is you just want to make sure that you are  giving them a really quick win. You don't want to give them everything under the sun because  then they'll feel overwhelmed.   27:40 I'm really excited about growing my influence and working with more business owners.    5 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Website Copy in An Afternoon  https://bit.ly/EliteAchievement  Connect with Kristin   Instagram  Website  Connect with Kathy  Instagram  Website

The Lavender Lifestyle is dedicated to helping women find balance between life, exercise and healthy eating so they can step into their power and become who they were always meant to be. In this episode, Ashley shares her expert advice on leading a healthy lifestyle, finding balance and much more. Episode Highlights: 05:40 We could guide them from start to finish and help them not only transform their body but their mind. It’s so much more than a physical transformation – we’re helping women completely transform the way they think about themselves. 07:14 I learned that the magic happens in the consistency. If you’re consistently showing up for yourself, that’s when you’re going to see results. 11:26 We see women come to us and get started with fitness and they become much more confident not only because they’re seeing physical changes, but because they’re doing something for themselves. 13:06 You’re not always going to find motivation so the biggest thing you can do is just start. 17:33 We are really big on “No Foods Are Off Limits.” 22:57 When our clients come to us, the first thing we teach them is to appreciate something about their body. Find something that they love and focus on that. 27:13 It’s all about balance. Cybersecurity Will Save You with JohnE Upgrade
On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces us to JohnE Upgrade, a retired cybersecurity professional with 35 years of experience. JohnE authored the book “Don’t Hack” and is the founder of CyberD TV, which is the first streaming service dedicated to cybersecurity. He shares his expertise and passion with the general public to help in spreading knowledge about the importance of cybersecurity.  In this episode, JohnE shares with us important information about different ways you can protect yourself, your business and even your children in the online world.  Episode Highlights: 08:33 I knew this was going to happen – that there’s going to be crooks out there and they’re going to take advantage of this. It was the reason I was inspired to get into computer security which turned into cybersecurity.  16:55 Cybersecurity defense is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s something that’s a grind which has to go on day after day. We would not only have to build our servers in our network to certain standards, but we’d have to implement them in perpetuity.  24:14 I enjoy teaching people, and I also knew I was planting a seed there. I was able to eventually offset some of my responsibilities by educating others. 32:40 I think it all comes down to control for small businesses. Meaning don’t give out your passwords and don’t allow anyone access to do anything that might cause you problems.  39:00 You need to back up your data – there’s nothing more critical than having your data backed up. All it takes is one accident to mess it all up. 48:50 The holy grail of any kind of scammer or hacker is your social security number.  1:00:11 Communication is needed to keep your kids safe, so make sure to set clear guidelines for your kids.  Resources Useful Cybersecurity Links: https://losspreventionmedia.com/an-a-z-plan-for-corporate-cybersecurity-success/ (https://losspreventionmedia.com/an-a-z-plan-for-corporate-cybersecurity-success/) https://www.hvy.com/meagan-j-meehan/cyber-d-interview-with-cybersecurity-expert-johnny-young (https://www.hvy.com/meagan-j-meehan/cyber-d-interview-with-cybersecurity-expert-johnny-young) https://totalsecurityadvisor.blr.com/cybersecurity/why-cybersecurity-and-change-control-go-together-like-peanut-butter-and-jelly/ (https://totalsecurityadvisor.blr.com/cybersecurity/why-cybersecurity-and-change-control-go-together-like-peanut-butter-and-jelly/) https://youtu.be/i4b4xTA_LTI (https://youtu.be/i4b4xTA_LTI) https://cyberdefense.vhx.tv/tips-for-seniors-to-stay-safe (https://cyberdefense.vhx.tv/tips-for-seniors-to-stay-safe) The latest quotes from JohnE in “Business Insider”: https://www.businessinsider.com/by-halting-cyberattacks-threat-intelligence-gives-firms-an-advantage-2021-10 (https://www.businessinsider.com/by-halting-cyberattacks-threat-intelligence-gives-firms-an-advantage-2021-10) https://www.businessinsider.com/what-cyberattacks-mean-for-worldwide-security-2021-10 (https://www.businessinsider.com/what-cyberattacks-mean-for-worldwide-security-2021-10) Connect with Kristin  https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) Connect with JohnE https://www.linkedin.com/in/johne-upgrade-4aa083151/ (LinkedIn)

On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin introduces Melanie Hurley who started her company based on her desire to create a product that could make a difference, help others and ease her mind while painting her daughters’ nails. Melanie founded Piggy Paint in 2008 on her quest for a safer nail polish alternative for her kids. She has since become a serial entrepreneur and launched two other companies - Sophi Nail Polish and Rock the Locks.  In this episode, Melanie shares her journey as a “mompreneur,” giving us insights on the challenges she faced, the success of her companies and much more. Episode Highlights 2:42 I think the hardest thing was just trying to figure out how to do everything by myself.  4:19 In the beginning, I think the motivation for the company was that we put everything we had into it.  4:51 I’m kind of an “all in” person so when I’m passionate about things, I just go for it.  9:11 You have to have thick skin, be passionate and eventually you’re going to get a yes.  12:55 I think that our biggest mistakes are what brought us to this point of success. 17:19 Another piece of it is the “why.” For me, I’m not just passionate about selling the product, I’m passionate about our products.  Resources Connect with Kristin  https://www.instagram.com/meetkristinburke/ (Instagram) https://kristinburke.com/ (Website) Connect with Melanie Hurley  https://www.piggypaint.com/our-story/ (Website) https://www.instagram.com/melaniemhurley/ (Instagram)

How to Move Forward When You are Off-Track for a Goal
Do you sometimes feel that your plans are not going according to what you envisioned? Often, we get off-track from our goals in life, our career, our relationships and many more, but what do you do when this happens?  On this episode of Elite Achievement, Kristin talks about the struggles that come along with being off-track for a goal. She shares what her experience was when facing such challenges. Kristin recommends many things during this episode, but one stands out, which is going back to your long-term vision. Make sure that your goals still connect with what you are truly working for. She shares 4 lessons that helped her in her goal achievement journey. Listen as she discusses the important lessons that we all could learn from in facing the struggle of being off-track. Expect a discussion that will encourage you to keep going even though you face challenges. Episode Highlights: 6:05 If the goal no longer connects with your vision, then you have an opportunity to re-imagine that goal and set a goal that does connect with your long-term vision. 9:16 A competing commitment is an unconscious pact you have made with yourself to do something that will prevent you from reaching your goal.  15:26 I am used to embracing the idea of increasing your activity and focusing on what you can control and pouring more effort into achieving a goal, but that’s not always the best tactic. 17:57 It is an incredible reminder to be mindful of the thoughts I am thinking, the words that I am saying and to take a step back and ask myself, am I self-sabotaging my own results with what I am thinking and what I am believing and what I am putting out into the universe? 20:44 I'm sharing these learnings and my insights today to help you realize that part of that gap closing process is learning how to keep moving forward when you are off-track, and learning how to embrace tracking, reflecting and planning. Expect a discussion that will clarify your thoughts and push for self-care to achieve your goals.  Episode Highlights: 14:37 - So there's this sense that I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I am not sure where this is leading, there are no guarantees of an outcome. But I'm confident that I'll figure it out along the way. 22:19 – I actually now believe that self care is maybe one of the keys to making it through the challenges and ups and downs of growth and of transformation as people go through it. 30:20 - I think there's actually a point where it flips and the harder you work, the less effective you become. Because it's draining your energy. 37:25 - We need to be mindful of those negative mental narratives that show up on that pathway for change in growth.
