Ornamental fishes are small colourful fishes kept in homes in aquariums for the purpose of decoration. They are usually kept in displayable containers such as glasses with one of its sides transparent. There are many indigenous species of ornamental fishes in the Nigerian waters and can be a foreign exchange earner for the country if it can develop its eco- tourism sector as well as export. This report highlights the economic potential of ornamental fishes and how Nigeria can tap into the fishery sub-sector to boost its revenue generation.

Since Nigeria obntained it's independence, the agriculture sector has witnessed a lot agricultural intervention programmes all aimed at boosting food production for local consumption, guarantee food security and for the export to earn foreign exchange, as well as address the challenge of poverty. Agriculture was the main stay of the nation's economy in the sixties and seventies until the oil boom era. Nigeria was famous for the export of crops like cashew nuts, cocoa, grandnuts among others. The sector was the highest employer of labour at the time. Sadly, the sector was neglected and all attention was focused on the oil sector. Widowhood rites and practices are going on in parts of the eastern part of Nigeria especially in Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Enugu States. River State and other parts of the south south Nigeria have these obnoxious practices predominant. These practices are so dehumanizing, barbaric and quite degrading and grossly immoral. The widow is usually the number one suspect when her husband passes on. Traditional practices has ensured that men retain material, social and moral dominance over women. The woman is regarded as a chattel in Nigeria and this dominates the customary laws and marriage, inheritance, succession and property ownership. The agony and pain of a woman who lost her husband is huge enough. However, this is compounded by private and public maltreatment which culminated in the violation of her guaranteed fundamental human rights to life, liberty, dignity of human person, acquisition of private property, freedom from discrimination and freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This report seeks to being to the fore some of these obnoxious practices and attract govern.ents attention with a view to finding a lasting solution to the inhuman practice.

Irregular power supply has remained a major challenge in Nigeria. This has affected development and investment in every sector of the economy.
