Professional ice hockey is one of the most demanding sports on the planet. It is a game of skill that requires one to perform with speed, precision, and toughness regardless of whether the player is in the NHL or in the minor leagues. The evolution of players’ abilities and advances in equipment have also increased the demands on not only the athletes themselves but also those who are responsible for coaching and preparing the player for the next level. Enter Coach Billy McCreary. The name “McCreary” is a household name in the hockey world as many are familiar with the lineage which dates back several decades. Billy McCreary is continuing that lineage by taking the City of Danbury, Connecticut, by storm in his first year as head coach of the FPHL’s Danbury Hat Tricks. McCreary, a former professional player himself, has quickly transitioned into his second career as a coach and general manager and in Episode 21 of the Upbeat Hang, we get to hear of Coach McCreary’s journey to coaching as well his philosophies on development, discipline, and destiny.
