Royal Treatment w/ Sheryl Dunleavy
Sheryl Dunleavy is the Founder of The Ann Parke Collection, an antique business focused mainly on dogs. The lineage of the items, particularly some like Staffordshire ceramic dogs, dates back all the way to the mid-1800s and can be traced to Queen Victoria. Prior to her reign, dogs had just been looked at as working animals. But Victoria, whose main childhood companion was a King Charles Spaniel named Dash, modeled a kinder, loving acceptance of her dog to society. When she became Queen, Victoria showed the public how dogs could be part of your home, your family, and that they should be treated properly. The public perception changed, spurring a dramatic shift around the domestication and artistic documentation of dogs. Today, Sheryl tries to honor Victoria's legacy – and how special it is to capture dogs through art – in her own collection of antiques. Constantly Curious w/ Ed Yong
Pulitzer Prize-winning science journalist and book author Ed Yong's latest book, An Immense World, looks at the different ways animals experience the world from a sensory level. While Ed was in the midst of writing about this topic, a canine companion came into his life (for the first time ever), and gave him new insights into his work. Raising his corgi, named Typo, allowed him to reflect daily about what his own dog might be feeling, and leaned into these thoughts with curiosity and empathy which enriched his life, reinforced his book research and made him feel closer to nature, and the planet in a more profound way. But when she herself was later diagnosed with "the c-word" (as she prefers to call it), everything changed. She was forced to confront the same difficult process she was helping patients through, and this time she had her own dog at her side to help persevere. This journey inspired her new book – Sit, Stay, Heal – reflecting on the lessons she's learned in her practice and own experience over the years. For more information about the episode, guest, and featured social media or links: www.dogsavethepeople.com/episodes/dr-renee-alsaraff - If you liked this episode, then please support our Independent podcast production, go to www.buymeacoffee.com/dogpeople to buy us a (virtual) coffee as a one-time donation or recurring monthly membership.

Bonus: Dog Walk Meditation | Leaving Negativity
This bonus episode features a sample meditation episode, Leaving Negativity, from a new spinoff series – Dog Walk Meditation – brought to you by the team at Dog Save The People. This walking meditation is designed to help us release the negativity in our lives, to open up to a wider spectrum of compassion and forgiveness. While humans may have a hard time letting go of grudges or negative thoughts, we can take a lesson from our dogs to more assuredly move forward. Dogs don’t linger on the past, they live in the moment and keep going. If we’re able to free our minds of unnecessary burden and instead let go, we can live a better daily life as a result. Dog Support System w/ Rachel Herman
Rachel Herman founded the PAWS NY nonprofit in 2008 to help provide crucial everyday pet care services to New York City residents in need. The non-profit organization recognizes the importance for dogs to stay with their loving pet parents, keeping animals out of shelters. This is done by supporting vulnerable groups dealing with obstacles such as health issues or financial hardships with dog walking, veterinary care, and food. This way, their clients stay happy together with their pets. The PAWS NY volunteers also bond with clients over their pets and provide a vital human connection, too.  Stay tuned for the ending, where a PAWS client named Joseph Paul speaks to how he has been able to stay with his dog Bonnie and provide valuable company to each other. Please consider donating to or volunteering for PAWS NY - https://pawsny.org For more information about the episode, guest, and featured social media or links: www.dogsavethepeople.com/episodes/rachel-herman - If you liked this episode, then please support our Independent podcast production, go to www.buymeacoffee.com/dogpeople to buy us a (virtual) coffee as a one-time donation or recurring monthly membership.
