Digital by Design – Episode 002
CohnReznick Digital Advisory - Digital and Technology Trends for 2021: #1. Distributed Workforce 2.0Overview: This was the year of the distributed workforce; almost every company had to either activate their program or bootstrap a combination of tools to enable the capabilities required to keep the business running. Impacts: The name of different providers runs longer than we have time to mention on this show. But the tools and capabilities need to advance. We need to see capabilities that help automate the processes and inner actions we have with the individuals within one's organization. Capabilities that would be a material value would be as simple as scheduling and meeting. In the world of video meetings, these meetings often feel formal and highly structured. You also often only end up meeting with individuals in your trust circle. I hope to see more of using data intelligence to bring people together within an organization talking about like-minded things. #2. Cloud infrastructure and servicesOverview: There is no questioning that the Cloud is here, and 2020 felt like the year that companies realized that handcuffing that comes with not having their applications and data in the Cloud. Manymiddle marketed companies are faced with the same challenge, legacy systems, and legacy infrastructure. Thankfully the Cloud is becoming a more obtainable reality thanks to the fact that many of the predominant mid-market ERP solutions have moved to provide a cloud offering, core productivity suites are fully cloud-enabled, and the vast majority of all CRM are in the Cloud. Impact: When companies think about their move to the Cloud, it is becoming increasingly more achievable. Once they can move their core building blocks, it becomes a matter of migrating their data and their integration layers to enable cloud computing. The biggest gain companies will see from this is that the Cloud enables the organization to run faster and more efficiently. #3. Artificial Intelligence:Overview: A recent article from Forester highlight that AI software revenues will be less than 3% of the overall application market.AI in business apps will be the norm, prompting AI-centric and AI-infused applications to dip further. Impacts: We as consumers are already expecting AI services to be a component of the businesses we engaged with daily. The challenge, however, is two-fold. The first is that software companies struggle to keep up with demand in a meaningful manner in which embedded AI is bringing a material better experience to the end-user. The second challenge is a much deeper rooted issue with many organizations in which the organization's data is siloed with a single application and/or is not leveraged across the value chain. In either situation, organizations need to continue to assess their data and the potential use of that data to enhance the overall user experience and start to activate AI capabilities in capability pockets and expand those capabilities over time. This approach will enable organizations to make more informed decisions, detect changing demands or behaviors, and make adjustments at both a macro and individual level driving greater efficiencies and top-line growth. #4. Robotic Process Automation Overview: Robotic Process Automation, or RPA, is the use of software to automate business processes with examples like responding to emails and outreach, analyzing data, or processing transaction. RPA automates repetitive tasks and can free up talent work for analysis and or other organizational activities. Impacts: When thinking about RPA, middle-market companies should be not only thinking about how they can automate highly repetitive processes such as, say, order processing. Thanks to advances with a few key RPA solutions, the ability to activate RPA at an organization is easier than ever. The obvious advantage is that their bots, also called digital workers, never need breaks, and can work around the clock. #5. Change Management Overview: Due to COVID, technology in 2020 became an embedded part of our lives. No matter your technology literacy, you had to comply, and now that the door has open, I don't think we will see it ever closed. Impacts: Technology is changing at such a rapid pace; no matter your digital literacy, you will not be able to keep up. Organizations must develop change management programs that listen and act and educate users in various mediums. No longer is it enough to host a single training or have a process document. Organizations need to meet their audience in their preferred medium and continue to educate users in an ongoing manner across the written word, video, audio, and imagery.
