Desolation Angel April 26th 2020 - In the Days of the Virus - The Chronicles Episode 25
Tonight as we continue to bring voices, your voices, our voices to these days we live in, and gain perspective on what Covid-19 is doing to our lives, two more fascinating interviews. Brian McGolgan, a friend out of New Orleans, with an extensive background in the city's music; DJ at WWOZ, worked at Tipitina's. We talk music, especially on this JazzFest in Place weekend and he does have some stories (possibly one of the funnier ones I've ever heard about Mac (Dr. John) and his unique use of language), about R&B music. For anyone outside that city, you think you know music? Take listen and get an education, and we talk about live music forward after this is over.Skip Clark joins us tonight as well. A PdD and Professor of history and specifically, his concentration and classes he taught in the history of Europe during the Bubonic Plague years, the Black Death. He brings insight and expertise very few others can or could and we talk about that period, and it's lessons for today. As always, it's free to stream, download or listen to, just head out on the link. Desolation Angel April 23rd 2020 - In the Days of the Virus - The Chronicles Episode 25
Tonight, in the ongoing series of bringing different voices, your voices, our voices to the Covid-19 epidemic that's changing our lives, two really interesting interviews. Dwayne Brashears, from down in New Orleans, former program director at WWOZ (best radio station in the country) and we talk everything; JazzFest (which would be going on now), Mardi Gras culture, Mardi Gras Indians and Super Sunday, how Covid-19 is and will affect musicians, venues, restaurants from here forward, and as a long time Burning Man attendee, Dwayne and I talk cancelled festivals. (Annnddd of course, being a bit homesick, the intro music tonight is Galactic, and the outro is Allen Toussaint, and Mac (Dr. John). Our other guest is my good friend Elizabeth Whitacre, Buffalo resident and small business owner, and also probably one of the best card readers I know, we talk that, and what she saw beforehand, and keeps seeing now, and we talk about effects on small business, and we talk about trauma response, and keeping a business alive during this time. Desolation Angel April 19th 2020 - In the Days of the Virus - The Chronicles Episode 25
Tonight, we did our normal Sunday show with Greg Haley. Couple of things here. For those who know Greg and I, take a listen, because tonight, we were just "us", it's like sitting around at camp listening to the two of us get going on a normal roll on the things that he and I are known to talk about, regularly, economics, politics, society, and our take on all of it. About midway, both he and I do have some messages, a message for Brushwood folks that it would be worth your time to listen to. There's actually a pretty personal message from me to anyone who knows me near the end, and the music tonight? Well I got a little carried away, and there's a dance party at the end. Enjoy. Desolation Angel April 18th 2020 - In the Days of the Virus - The Chronicles Episode 25
Tonight, we bring some more light to the darkness. 3 beautiful human souls talking about art, mental and emotional support and wellness and resources, creativity, and some spiritual insights. Cynthia Voegel talks about art, 14th century art, and how previous epidemics informed and shaped art, and how that applies to today, and what may come, and has some very kind things to say about one of her mentors, Dr. Ken Payne (and we talk haircuts)Jessica Ewanic talks about trauma support, and emotional support peer to peer, and has a very comprehensive list of resources available, counseling available, phone numbers for everything from domestic violence, abuse, sexual assault, addiction and substance abuse, suicide hotlines (and we talk French Onion Soup)Jeci Skywalker talks about some of the spiritual underpinnings of what's occurring, shadow work so necessary to (gently) confront and staying healthy, well and creative through this, using personal creative processes (and we talk brunch)All 3 souls bring some true light and hope to what's happening, some resources and information. (And in the course of doing this one, I wind up revealing a whole lot of how I got from Kip BC [before Corona], who now seems like a couple of "me's" and a lifetime ago, to Kip AC [After Corona] and what's happening now for me, and what may be forward, didn't intend that one, but it turns out well.) So, in that effort to bring voices, your voices, our voices, a chorus of voices, and provide a living document of what these times are doing to the collective us, and how we're responding, that's tonight's show, a couple of hours of thoughtful, insightful, intentional conversation by these 3 to help light a candle, to go with all of your candles against the darkness. Free to stream, listen to, download or subscribe to, all paywalls are down, it's free.Kip See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Desolation Angel April 5th 2020 - In the Days of the Virus - The Chronicles Episode 16
Tonight, Sunday, we continued our series of bringing voices, your voices, our voices, to how we’re responding to the Covid-19 crisis with the return of Greg Haley, a Sunday show regular. In a wide-ranging conversation we talked about things like health care and what it will look like beyond this, the higher education system and what changes may occur there, and economic and societal look-aheads. He brings a thoughtful perspective, and one filled with hope, because along with fighting the current fight we have, we all have to look ahead, and Greg does. And fittingly, because I do open and close every show with a song, and not just any song this show. Bill Withers, gone this week from Covid-19, live at Carnegie Hall, now dark, and you do want to listen and sing along at the end as he leads the audience in Lean On Me, because that’s what we all need to do right now, so sing, brothers and sisters, sing it loud. Sing it so I can hear it in Buffalo, and we all can hear one another. Desolation Angel April 2nd 2020
Tonight, we continued our mission and series of bringing voices, your voices, to these days we live in. From here in Buffalo, Avi Shalom and Bridge Rauch lent their voices and gave interviews, and to my ears, brought hope and light. No matter where you are, or who you are, I ask you to listen to what they have to say, and the information they give. If you're in Buffalo, as two of the people intimately tied into the Buffalo Mutual Aid Network, they're a treasure trove of information, either for you, a family member or a neighbor. Please listen, as you may find some things out you didn't know, and have more resources for food, for help, for questions that you or anyone else may have, and hear a vision for the future beyond Covid-19. Free to download, stream, listen and share (and do so liberally). If you're not in the area, still more information to have to build and grow mutual aid networks wherever you are.
