IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT just turned 50 years young. In this discussion with SLATE culture writer Aisha Harris we look back on 1967's Academy Award winner for Best Picture and its lasting cultural impact.

Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley joins host Steve Ryfle for a discussion of LET IT FALL: LOS ANGELES 1982-1992, his new documentary revisiting the Los Angeles civil unrest 25 years later. Ridley, who won an Academy Award for his 12 YEARS A SLAVE screenplay, is also the creator and show runner of ABC-TV's AMERICAN CRIME and the writer of numerous feature films. LET IT FALL aired on ABC on April 28, 2017 and is currently in theatrical release in the U.S.

Host Steve Ryfle is joined by writer David F. Walker (whose credits include numerous titles from Marvel, DC, and other comic book publishers, as well as a multitude of book, magazine, and film projects) to dissect themes of racism and white supremacism in GET OUT, the horror-comedy breakout hit of early 2017 from first-time director Jordan Peele.
