The Price You Pay For College
Why does college cost so much? What really goes on in financial aid offices in this country, and will going to college pay off in the end? These are all big questions we’ve explored before on this podcast, and in today’s episode, I’m speaking with an expert guest who has literally written the book on this important subject. Ron Lieber is the author of The Price You Pay for College: An Entirely New Road Map for the Biggest Financial Decision Your Family Will Ever Make, and what he shares today will give you a very different perspective on all things money, as it relates to the college admissions process. As you’ve heard me talking about in recent episodes, the Ivy League Formula Program is our intensive 6-month college consulting program, and it’s opening for enrollment very soon. Do keep in mind! We are only accepting 30 students this round, and it will only be open once or twice this year. To be notified when The Ivy League Formula Program opens up, you can put yourself on the waitlist at http://juliekimconsulting.com/waitlist, and Passion Project Bootcamp members will be given priority for the first spots that are available. To learn the strategies that help our students get accepted into amazing colleges using their Passion Projects, check out our free training at https://juliekimconsulting.com/masterclass. As always, if you have questions please reach out to our support team at info@juliekimconsulting.com. I hope you find this episode informative and helpful as you explore the financial aspects of college. Remember, ultimately is it you that is responsible for the outcome you will achieve, and no one else. This is why I highly recommend picking up a copy of Ron’s book because it will be one of the best investments you (or your parents) will ever make as you embark on this journey. Thanks for listening and see you next week with a brand new episode! SHOW NOTES: https://juliekimconsulting.com/episode-93-the-price-you-pay-for-college/

Competitions and awards: are they worth it?
Are you wondering if you should be participating in competitions or how many awards you should have when applying to colleges? (Or do you even NEED to get awards?!?!) These are questions I get a lot, so today on the podcast we’re going to talk about how college admissions officers view competitions and awards. I’ll be coaching my Passion Project Bootcamp student Simi, who is an amazing student (and person!), and I’m sure you’ll be able to tell this by the way she speaks and carries herself in sharing all about her Passion Project. Just like Simi has, you can also create a Passion Project and figure out how to spend your time wisely during the college admissions process. If you’d like to learn more about the specific strategies I teach inside my Passion Project Bootcamp and Ivy League Formula Program, check out my free training. You can register for the free training here or go to https://juliekimconsulting.com/masterclass.   The Ivy League Formula Program (intensive 6-month college consulting program) is currently full and closed. But the good news is that we’ll be opening enrollment in 1-2 months! So make sure to put yourself on the waitlist so you don’t miss our announcement! SAT vs. ACT during COVID: To take or not?
In today’s coaching session with my Passion Project Bootcamp student Patricia, I’ll be answering a question that I get often. With the policy changes due to COVID-19, a lot of students are now wondering if they should even be taking the SAT or ACT, so I wanted to look at this topic today on the podcast (fun fact - Patricia is actually from the very same high school that I attended, which makes helping her on this coaching session extra special to me)! In this episode Patricia not only asks about the SAT and ACT, but I also coach her on how to choose a major as well as a minor, and I share strategies with her for reaching more people and have a greater impact with her Passion Project. We share all the resources, lessons on how to stand out, plan for SAT and ACT, land research positions and more in my Passion Project Bootcamp 1-year college consulting program. This year I’m also hosting a bonus goal and mindset training for students enrolled in all of my programs, because I strongly believe that having the right mindset is what will lead you to success. How Mercedes is Impacting the Latino Community
Today I have a coaching session with my Passion Project Bootcamp student, Mercedes. I’m so grateful to attract amazing students like Mercedes who are so committed to their goals and motivated to achieve them. In this episode Mercedes and I cover a lot of different topics, and I actually got a little emotional after this call because of all that she is doing in regards to her Passion Project (and all that I know she will accomplish in the future).  Mercedes is currently in the brainstorming phase for her Passion Project, and from talking with her I can really sense how much she wants to help and give back to her community. You’re going to hear how she’s doing this, and why she’s so passionate about the political system in the United States. This episode really is a reminder that we are all here to do good in the world, and it reminds me why I do what I do in helping my students. If you are a committed student like Mercedes who wants to use the strategies that I teach to get or stay on the best path for getting accepted into your dream college, I highly recommend that you attend my free training! How many school clubs to join
Happy New Year! Happy 2021! It’s a new year, and even if it seems not much is changing during the ongoing global pandemic, it just feels like we have a new start in January 2021. To get the year started right, I’m sharing an amazing coaching session with one of my Passion Project Bootcamp students, Anjali. Anjali asks so many good questions in this coaching session, and a big one is about how many school clubs she should be joining. I reveal whether or not joining a lot of clubs will help your college application or not. As you’ll hear, the answer will be a bit different depending on your theme, which is why having a strong theme is very important in the overall process. Creating a unique theme for your college application is something I focus on teaching in my 1-year college consulting program, The Passion Project Bootcamp. Click here to learn more about our amazing program! She also asks a question about how to land research positions, and a few more college admissions questions that I think you’d find relevant to your current situation too!   So here’s your 1st step to take! How To Decide Your College Major
As we enter this new year, I am excited to share with you another coaching session I had with my Passion Project Bootcamp student, Erica! I’m sharing this coaching call with Erica on the podcast because I want you to see what it would look like if you were to work with me inside of The Passion Project Bootcamp or The Ivy League Formula Program. In this episode with Erica we cover a lot of different important topics, and I answer the biggest questions she has. This includes whether or not she should work on her Passion Project with friends, and how to motivate them if this is what she ultimately decides to do. We also look at how she can navigate things if there’s a shift in her academic interests and major, and so much more. I think you’ll learn a lot about the many ways to make your application stand out, and the different ways to show who you are to colleges that you want to get accepted to. Remember, it’s not about showing the best side of yourself always, and having 10, 20 or even 30 extracurriculars. It’s more about showing who you are in the most authentic and compelling way, and then backing that up with evidence.   If you are like Erica and have questions about the college admissions process, then I really want you to check out my free training! You can register for the free training here. This is where I share strategies that will help you land research and intern positions, create amazing passion projects, and get awesome results for your college admissions journey.  This is a brand new training, so even if you’ve attended one of my free trainings in the past, you’re going to want to attend this one!
