Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness
The Defenders are back in the cinema for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and Xochitl Gomez. We chat about every moment in spoiler filled detail in our latest podcast. Synopsis for our Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Movie Review Directed by: Sam Raimi Written by: Michael Waldron Based on characters by - Steve Ditko and Stan Lee Chased by a demon in the space between universes while searching for the Book of Vishanti, America Chavez has a power that the demon wants. Both Chavez and Defender Strange are unable to escape. With Chavez captured by the demon, and with Strange injured and weakened, she will die if her power is extracted from her by the demon. Seeing no alternative, Defender Strange’s only option is to take the power himself, killing Chavez. But Strange is killed and Chavez accidentally creates a portal with her power that transports her and Strange's corpse to Earth-616, where Doctor Stephen Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, rescue Chavez from a rune studded octopus demon. Recognizing the runes on the demon, Strange consults Wanda Maximoff for help, but he realizes that she is responsible for the attacks. After acquiring the Darkhold and becoming the Scarlet Witch, Maximoff believes that controlling Chavez's powers will allow her to reunite with her children Billy and Tommy, taken from another universe, after she lost them in Westview. Strange refuses to surrender Chavez to Wanda, and she unleashes the Scarlet Witch against Kamar-Taj, killing many sorcerers. As she hunts Chavez in the ruins of Kamar-Taj, Chavez with no control of her power once again accidentally transports herself and Strange to Earth-838. Wanda uses the Darkhold to pursue Strange and Chavez by "dream-walking". She takes control of her Earth-838 counterpart, but is thwarted by a surviving sorceress in Kamar Taj who sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold and break the dream-walk. Enraged, Maximoff forces Wong to lead her to Mount Wundagore, a forbidden ancient ruin, to reestablish the dream-walk. While searching for help and trying to stop the Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange realises his counterparts in other universes have taken many different trajectories, but in each one he realises that his feelings for Christine Palmer have been the same. As Stephen, America and Christine escape Earth-838, their hope to retrieve the Book of Vishanti is crushed as Wanda destroys it. She takes over Chavez's mind, using her powers to send the others to an incursion-destroyed universe. Back in Earth-616, at Mount Wundagore, Maximoff begins the spell to take Chavez's powers. In the incursion destroyed universe, Strange uses its Darkhold to dream-walk in the corpse of the deceased Defender Strange back on Earth-616. With Wong's help, Strange saves Chavez from Wanda. Encouraging her to use her abilities, Chavez transports Wanda to Earth-838, where she sees Billy and Tommy recoil from her in fear while crying for their real mother. Wanda relents and uses her powers to bring down Mount Wundagore, destroying all copies of the Darkhold throughout the multiverse and apparently sacrificing herself in the process. With the threat of the Scarlet Witch gone, Chavez begins training at Kamar-Taj and Doctor Strange’s use of the Darkhold has unintended consequences. In a mid-credits scene, Doctor Strange is approached by a sorceress who warns him that his actions have triggered an incursion that he must help fix. It is the penultimate episode as as we chat about Moon Knight Episode 5 Asylum. A highly emotional look back through Marc and Steven's history. Moon Knight Episode 5 "Asylum" Synopsis Moon Knight Character created by: Doug Moench Executive Producers - Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Grant Curtis, Brad Winderbaum, Oscar Isaac, Mohamed Diab, Jeremy Slater Head Writer: Jeremy Slater Episode Written by: Rebecca Kirsch and Matthew Orton Episode Directed By: Mohamed Diab After their murder at the hands of Arthur Harrow, Steven and Marc are stuck in an afterlife with the Egyptian god Tawaret. This afterlife is a death barge on route through the Duat that resembles a psychiatric hospital. It is filled with their lifetime of memories. In order to pass over to the Field of Reeds, Marc and Steven’s hearts need to balance a feather on the scales of justice. Otherwise they will be condemned to the sands of the Duat. But Taweret thinks the oscillating scales are because of the missing pieces in each of their lives that is holding them back from balance. Marc has to reveal the most painful of memories to Steven. When they were children, Marc’s brother Randell drowned in an accident but his mother blamed Marc for his death. As their mother sank deeper into alcoholism she took out her pain and anger on Marc which led to him creating Steven Grant, based on the fearless adventurer from Marc and his brother’s favourite movie. Without any protection from his father Marc used Steven to shield himself from the abuse until he left home and entered the army. But he was kicked out and took a mercenary job with his commanding officer Bushman. On a job in Egypt with Layla’s father Bushman ordered everyone in the expedition killed. Marc was unable to save them and, injured at the foot of a statue of Khonshu, decided to take his own life. But Khonshu saw his potential and convinced Marc to give himself over and become his fist of vengeance, his Moon Knight. As Steven learns of their past and the truth of his mother he tries to absolve Marc of his anger, as he was just a child. This almost brings their hearts into balance but with time running out, Taweret tries to help them get to Osiris’ gate to get a message to Layla to save Khonshu and in turn save them, as she sees other souls, not yet properly judged, being condemned to the sands by Harrow. But as time ticks on and the scales are still unbalanced, other souls from the sands come to claim them and bring them into the underworld. Steven succeeds in defending Marc but is dragged into the Duat and Marc’s heart is balanced as he arrives at the Field of Reeds alone. In Moon Knight Episode 3 "The Friendly Type" the team takes an action filled trip to Egypt and we chat all about it in our spoiler filled podcast. Rest in Peace Gaspard Ulliel our thoughts go out to his friends and family following his untimely death. Moon Knight Episode 3 Synopsis Moon Knight Character created by: Doug Moench Executive Producers - Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Grant Curtis, Brad Winderbaum, Oscar Isaac, Mohamed Diab, Jeremy Slater Head Writer: Jeremy Slater Episode Written by: Beau DeMayo, Peter Cameron and Sabir Pirzada Episode Directed By: Mohamed Diab In the desert sands of Egypt, Arthur Harrow finds the location of Ammits tomb fully aware that Marc Spector is on his tail. Dispatching three acolytes to slow down Marc’s progress, they kill one of his contacts and attack Marc. The ensuing knife fight on the roofs above Cairo makes Steven Grant distinctly uncomfortable. But as both Marc and Steven fight for control of their body a series of black outs leaves two of Harrow’s men dead. But neither Marc or Steven can recall how it happened. The attempt to extract intel from the remaining acolyte doesn’t go well, and desperate to stop Harrow from releasing Ammit from her stone prison, Khonshu calls a meeting of the Egyptian Gods. Harrow is called to answer the accusations leveled at him, but he persuades the Gods that Khonshu, a shamed God, is using the Ennead and abusing his Avatar for his feud with Ammit. Khonshu is warned by the other Gods that any further violation of the ancient laws will see him punished. With few options left, Marc is given a new lead to find Ammit’s location by Hathor’s avatar Yatzil, who tells him to find Senfu’s sarcophagus, and is unexpectedly joined in Egypt by Layla, exploiting an uneasy relationship with a wealthy man called Anton Mogart who grants them access, under heavy guard, to the mummified body of Senfu. Layla implores Marc to allow Steven out so that he can help find the clues in the markings on Senfu’s body. But the delicate truce is broken by the arrival of Harrow who destroys the sarcophagus using the power of Ammit. As the dust of Senfu settles, Anton sets his guards on Marc and Layla, who are confronted by both Moon Knight, Mr Knight and Layla as they escape. In the desert, Steven deciphers the constellation that will help them navigate to the true resting place of Ammit but Khonshu must again turn to desperate measures. He turns back the night sky to align the constellation as it was back in ancient Egypt so that Steven and Layla can find Ammit and Arthur Harrow. But his actions once again provokes the anger of the Ancient Egyptian Gods , who imprison Khonshu in stone. Moon Knight Episode 2 Summon The Suit from Defenders on TV Podcast Industries
Fellow Defenders, we're back chatting about Moon Knight Episode 2 "Summon The Suit" in this weeks podcast. We're going spoiler filled so make sure you've watched the episode. Moon Knight Episode 2 "Summon The Suit" Synopsis Moon Knight Character created by: Doug Moench Executive Producers - Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Grant Curtis, Brad Winderbaum, Oscar Isaac, Mohamed Diab, Jeremy Slater Head Writer: Jeremy Slater Episode Written by: Jeremy Slater Episode Directed By: Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead Waking up alive and unscathed, Steven Grant returns to work to find the toilets out of action. The footage of the events of the previous night does not have the jackal that attacked him in the frame and Steven is heavily implicated as the culprit of the vandalism at the British Museum. Sacked from his job Steven checks out the storage container using the key he found in his apartment, to try and learn more about what the hell happened to him. ; and discovers a heap of military equipment, numerous fake passports and the stolen Scarab Beetle. In the container, as he tries to process this new discovery, he is once again visited by Marc Spector in a reflection, who explains that he serves Khonshu the God of the Moon and that he and, ultimately, Steven Grant are his avatar. Freaked out he runs out of the locker to be once again pursued by Khonshu. Escaping the storage facility he collides into Marc Spector’s wife, Layla, who recognises Marc but doesn’t know Steven. He brings her back to his apartment where he discovers that she is divorcing Marc Spector and she doesn’t buy the identity of Steven. But with a knock at the flat door she is forced to escape the flat as police arrive and arrest Steven Grant on the grounds of stealing and being the fugitive, the mercenary Marc Spector, wanted in connection for the execution of an archaeological excavation team in Egypt. After questioning, the police take Steven to Arthur Harrow at an inner city community he has rescued from decline. Arthur explains that he was once Khonshu’s avatar, the fist of vengeance, but grew weary of the ancient god’s justice to evil doers after the fact. He prefers a different sort of justice and that is why Harrow needs the Scarab Beetle to find his new god, Ammit, who he now serves, because she rooted out evil before it happened. Steven cares not for the type of justice meted out by Ammit and tries to escape with the Scarab, but another jackal set upon him. With Marc pleading to Steven to give him control and summon the soup…I mean suit, Steven calls forth Mr Knight, a psycho looking Colonel Sanders, and not Moon Knight, to fight the jackal. As Mr Knight has trouble dealing with the Jackal, he loses the Scarab compass, which Arthur recovers; but as the fight gets more dangerous Steven gives Marc control and Moon Knight kebabs the hound. Following the fight, the Marc Spector identity becomes dominant, refusing to let Steven’s identity come back, as both Marc and Khonshu have made a deal and that deal is leading Marc Spector back to Egypt. But things are not what they seem! Why does he wear ankle restraints to bed? A potential red flag if he were dating, but wait he has a date arranged with the attractive tour guide at work…he just doesn’t know how that came about! And why, oh why does JB the security guard at the museum keep getting his name wrong? His parallel worlds are about to get out of hand for Steven when he awakes to what should be a Friday to find himself on an Alpine field in Germany, a Scarab Beetle trinket in his hand, a voice ringing out in his head stating “the idiot is in control” and armed guards firing from the Alpine Schloss. Running to the local village for safety he encounters Arthur Harrow who is weighing the lives of volunteers from the village and passing judgment in the name of Egyptian God Ammit. Artur singles out Steven, but despite the blood on his hands, a revolver in his hand, the many dead bodies, the numerous crashed cars and being at the wheel of the Buddy Cupcake van, Steven doesn’t really know how he escaped the pursuing guards from that village! But with a jolt he wakes up in his bed, in his apartment and starts to get ready for work believing it was all just a dream. But things are about to get stranger as it’s actually Sunday, his fish Gus now has two fins, he’s missed his date and back at his flat he finds a cell phone and locker key hidden in his apartment. As he tries to comprehend what’s going on, he investigates a noise in his flat, but finds nothing until his reflection in the mirror, called Marc, seems to be talking to him. He flees his apartment but he encounters a large beaked creature, the God of the moon, Khonshu, in the corridor and flees back to his flat for safety. Back at work the following week, things don’t stay calm for long as he again encounters Arthur Harrow who is looking to get his Scarab Beetle back, but recognizes the chaos inside Steven Grant. That evening before finishing work an ancient Egyptian Annubis-like dog tracks Steven at the museum. As he runs for his life from the dog, he makes it to safety in the toilets. With the dog breaking down the door, Steven’s reflection tells him “to give him control”. As Steven embraces Marc Spector, Moon Knight emerges and fights off their attacker! Pursued by the Department of Damage Control, not even the help from his lawyer Matt Murdock, can ease the intrusion of the identity of Spiderman. As it begins to affect the futures of Peter, MJ and Ned when their University applications to MIT are rejected because of the controversy Peter asks Doctor Stephen Strange if he can help. A spell exists that may be the answer to Peter’s problems. Deep in the Sanctum Sanctorum and despite Wong’s warning, Doctor Strange casts a spell that will make people forget Peter is Spiderman. But it is a tricky and dangerous spell skirting the boundaries of reality. As Strange begins casting Peter keeps requesting alterations to the spell which causes it to become corrupted and run out of control. While Strange manages to contain the failing spell, weird things begin to happen in New York City and they all appear focussed on Spiderman. As Peter tries to convince an MIT administrator to accept Ned's and MJ's applications, he is suddenly attacked by Doc Ock aka Otto Octavius who he manages to disarm and then by the Green Goblin who manages to escape. He brings Doc Ock back to the Sanctum where he is placed in a holding cell next to Curt Connors in his Lizard form. But both adversaries don’t recognise this world’s Peter Parker. Doctor Strange reveals that the spell has begun bringing "visitors" from the multiverse who know that Peter is Spider-Man into their world from every part of the Multiverse. Armed with this knowledge and with the help of MJ and Ned, Peter decides to help capture any other possible visitors. Spider-Man manages to find and capture Electro aka Max Dillon and Flint Marko still in his Sandman form. While Peter wants to save Doc Ock, Electro, Sandman and Lizard, Doctor Strange believes they should be returned to their universe to meet their fate. But with Peter’s greatest adversary Norman Osborne, the green Goblin still at large, Norman uses his split personality and Peter’s desire to help others for his own ends, trashing Peter’s plan and unleashing tragic events for Peter Parker. With Aunt May killed and Peter desolate, MJ and Ned rally to his help, releasing Doctor Strange from the mirror dimension and recruiting two friendly neighbourhood visitors to his aid as they face off against his enemies at the Statue of Liberty. In the final battle the Spider-Men manage to cure their villains. At Peter's request, Strange fixes the spell, sending the alternate Spider-Men and their villains back to their universes, while making everyone forget Parker's existence. Marvel's What If Ultron Won? Episode 8 podcast from Defenders on TV Podcast Industries
For the penultimate and for the first time multiverses are tying together in What If? Episode 8 "What if Ultron Won?". An action packed episode filled with Easter Eggs everywhere. Marvel's What If? Episode 8 Synopsis Executive Produced by: Bryan Andrews, A.C. Bradley, Brad Winderbaum with Kevin Feige Head Writer: A.C. Bradley Episode Written By: Matthew Chauncey Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews One lost battle can change a multiverse! Tony Stark’s tech experiment has gone rogue as Ultron, having taken the Mind Stone and Vision's vibranium body, defeats the Avengers and begins his mission for peace on earth. After his nuclear obliteration of the human species, Ultron begins to bring peace to all corners of the universe along with the power of the remaining 5 Infinity Stones taken from a bisected Thanos. Eradicating planet after planet only Carol Danvers in space, and Clint Barton and Natashia Romanov on earth stand in his way. While Natashia and Clint look to an analogue piece of tech, in the form of Arnim Zola’s consciousness, to infiltrate and bring down Ultron and his hive; Carol decides to fight fire with fire but she is killed in a face-off deep inside the core of the planet Xandar. With his mission in the universe complete, Ultron hears the voice of the Watcher. Discovering the existence of the multiverse, his mission is suddenly renewed - peace in our time and across multiversal space. On Earth Barton sacrifices himself to allow Natashia and Zola, now in the body of an Ultron drone, to escape Ultron’s drone army as Zola is unable to upload himself to the hive. Ultron is no longer just off-world but outside known space! Being attacked by Ultron in the multiversal plane, the Watcher uses all his power to limit Ultron’s zeal to spill across universes and prevent their destruction. They battle across the multiverse until Ultron gains the upper hand. The Watcher flees and reluctantly accepts that he must intervene asking Stephen Strange Supreme for his help. Marvel's What If?
