22. Bye, 2020: We've Got Some Intentions For Ya!
Heyoo... and goodbye, everyone! For this year at least. Your deep conversationalists Meg and Fran are saying goodbye to 2020, this [insert any expletive of your choice here] of a year, with our last full episode. And we're ending it with a TWIST, baby: we're sharing our top three intentions for 2021 because resolutions are just so overrated (and, we think, unhealthy). Stay tuned at the end for a bonus: instead of what we're loving this week, we share the top three things we loved ... OF THE YEAR. What are your guiding intentions for 2021 and the top three things you loved in 2020? Share it with us!  LINK TO VIDEO OF EP: https://youtu.be/neqKpcpOR_g  LOVE LANGUAGES QUIZ: bit.ly/3r3fVPR  CONTACT: IG: @deepconvospod email: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com meg: @meg.sales.14fran: @fransales MUSIC: "best friends forever" - visceral beats "space makes me sad" - fiji blue

21. Why You're Not Manifesting
Manifestation. The law of attraction. Non-attachment. Attachment is suffering. Expectations lead to disappointment. We’ve all heard these concepts before, but what do they really mean? In this episode, we break down these concepts and what could be blocking us from drawing our dreams into our realities. Multi-faceted artist Lauren and her boyfriend, beat-maker and musician Sam, join us as we discuss mindset habits that cause us to suffer, among those placing too much importance on relationships, ideas, material things, titles, labels, and more. Pour yourself a steaming cup of pumpkin-spiced cider and join us in this enlightening deep convo.  LINK to video: https://youtu.be/1osh8tkcC3c Socials/Contact:   Lauren: Lauren Extrom on FB, @laurenalyssa2   Sam: “Sam Fishman drums” on YouTube; Cicada Madness onStitcher & Spotify   @deepconvospod   @meg.sales.14   @fransales   Email: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com  Music: Best Friends Forever, Fucked Up Today – MYSM Laundry – Visceral Beats

20. Urban Legends & Reddit Scary Stories, Oh My!
Happy Halloween (and Happy ... ?? ... Election Night)! It's a spooky episode (hopefully it will distract you for a bit). Meg shares her favorite classic Urban Legends while Fran scours Reddit for some scary true tales. BONUS: Fran critically analyzes all of them, and we both recount scary encounters we've had ourselves. What scary encounters have you had? Share them with us! 19. Quar-Dreams Continued: "Express Yourself"
We analyze another quar-dream; this time, it's Meg's. And it's pretty revealing (and we sound like we're high on something even though we're not...). 18. "I Complete Me."
The one. My soulmate. My other half. And the now-ubiquitous quote popularized by Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire: "You complete me." From Greek philosphers and the Bible to the questions our relatives ask us ("do you have a boyfriend? when are you getting married?") to what we've come to expect from Disney movies and rom-coms, the idea of us needing one, end-all-be-all romantic partner to become "whole" is a tale as old as time. But as Meg and Fran explore in this new episode, this idea is actually dangerous and takes away our power and agency. But how can we re-define the idea of "soulmate" in a way that puts ourselves first? Tune in to find out!  VIDEO OF EP: https://youtu.be/D_qY1ybMyo4 SOCIAL MEDIA: @deepconvospod@meg.sales.14@fransales EMAIL: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com MUSIC: "Honeymoon at the Holiday Inn" by MYSM "Best Friends Forever" by Visceral Beats

17. "Lean Into Your Moon Side."
Fran has been having super vivid dreams since quarantine started (whereas she normally never has dreams or usually never remembers them). So the last time she had one she knew she had to immediately record a voice memo for Meg. In this episode, we do a deep dream interpretation - initially for fun, but it turns out that, from practicing patience to why bagel holes mean sexual longing to learning to embrace her feminine "moon" side, Fran's subconscious has deeper lessons in store. Check it out and let us know if you've had any vivid dreams lately!   YOUTUBE VID OF EP: https://youtu.be/TXk5Slc2fnc  SOCIALS: @deepconvospod @meg.sales.14 @fransales  EMAIL: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com  MUSIC: Hello Mr. Princeton by Otis McDonald Fucked Up Today and Soft Cream by MYSM

16. "You're Tearing Me Apart, Lisa!"
This is sort of a bonus episode but not quite an extra episode. And it's pretty explanatory. We react to the cult classic hit The Room (2003) by the renowned auteur Tommy Wiseau. 15. Guys Spill the T … Again.
Hey folks! The gals are back – and we’ve got a full house. Jack, Fran’s friend/roommate, is back to spill the tea once again…and this time he’s joined by Mo, Meg’s husband. We’ve found even more “questions women are too scared to ask men” (according to the ever-reliable Internet), and we wanted to see which points Jack and Mo agree on – and which they don’t. (Heh-heh.) Of course, things get deep, but they also get super silly. 14. Being Resilient
Hi—it’s just Meg today. On an early Friday morning, I felt like sitting down with a cup of coffee and talking through my feelings, why I’ve been having a tough time as of late, and generally reflecting on my journey and all its ups and downs. I talk about resilience and what it means to me, in context of life events that will forever be a part of who I am—experiences like struggling with addiction, working through issues of self-esteem and inadequacy, and the willingness it takes to continually keep my chin up despite a traumatic stillbirth almost a year and a half ago in a foreign country. I explore the concept of “the choice”, in that whatever life has to offer us, the power and resilience is in the choosing. I think about the question underlying it all: do we choose to label ourselves victims, or is there some good we can find in this? Who is my higher self, and how can I tap into that resilience that is innately mine? SOCIALS:@deepconvospod @meg.sales.14 @fransales  EMAIL:deepconvospodcast@gmail.com  MUSIC:“Lanikai” by Pool Cosby

13. "Pack F---in' Light": Lessons in Travel
Heyooo, it’s just Meg and Fran again. We thought it would be fun to share a concrete list of life lessons we learned in the course of our travels, since we have traveled so much within the past decade. We both have learned a lot while traveling that we still apply to our lives today—both large lessons (like realizing we’re strong and more savvy than we thought via traveling solo, for example) and small (like appreciating being a minimalist—see: episode title). Meg and Fran have also traveled to starkly different places, so it’s interesting which lessons we have in common and where we diverge! 12. The Lady Boss Episode (Part 1)
Heyooo dear Deep Convos listeners! We’re excited about this week’s podcast, because we sat down with two awesome guests: Halley Platz, actor/playwright/producer extraordinaire, and Alethea Buchal, singer-songwriter/musician/former soccer coach. What they have in common besides pursuing a competitive career in the arts? They are both powerful lady bosses (although we prefer to just call them “BOSSES”) who have experienced their fair share of obstacles, both internal and external, expected and not, to get to where they are today. Meg and Fran were in awe of the resilience these women have developed along the way. Take a listen to some of the lessons Halley and Alethea shared us, from how Halley created her own process (and “made her own island”) in the face of resistance from her academic teachers and peers—to the point where she was able to hire her friends without them having to change who they were—to how Alethea found a way to use her diverse strengths as a woman and apply it to soccer coaching, bringing out the best in her students despite the sexism in the sport.  TIMESTAMPS:  (00:13:50) Part 1: Alethea: sexism she faced as soccer coach. Celebrating different types of skill sets as coaches. Halley: her first off-broadway show (A Real Bitch). What inspired Alethea and Halley to pursue their fields? Alethea’s strengths in bringing out the best in people, and Halley having to find her own process, especially because of her learning disability.  (00:36:25) Part 2: Women and assertiveness. Handling negative energy, especially from loved ones—and people in their own field. (Teachers, best friends, family.) And still knowing they have the goods to do it. When you are going to a higher level of yourself, or if something is worth pursuing, adversity is guaranteed to happen (see book recs below). What is the “why” of what you’re doing?  (00:55:47) Final Words: Don’t Give Up. Take Space. Follow Your Core Belies, Your Higher Power. Make Your Own Island. Meg’s Boss Moment.  (01:06:30) What We’re Loving This Week (with Meg’s special guest): Kicking Seafood Restaurant and Daily Rise coffee shop (Utah), Vox videos, Jimmy Fallon video of Hamilton cast performing “Helpless” live on video chat, Douglas by Hannah Gadsby. Quote of the Day by AOC.  BOOKS MENTIONED: Now Discover Your Strengths, The Obstacle is The Way, The War of Art, You are a Badass  LINKS: Video of episode: Part 1: https://youtu.be/LNI2NiHawHE; part 2: https://youtu.be/m-2g1v6tSrIHelpless by Hamilton cast on Jimmy Fallon: https://youtu.be/vo_s6PsVogI AOC’s speech in its entirety: https://bit.ly/2PkfUFq  SOCIALS: @deepconvospod/@meg.sales.14/@fransales (email: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com) Halley: @justhalz_, halleyelizabethplatz.com, follow on New Play Exchange Alethea: @akb_musik (Facebook and IG), www.akbmusik.com  MUSIC: Intro/Outro: https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired/visions Transitions: https://soundcloud.com/sofasound-beats/dreamwalk-feat-cay-caleb

11. Self-Gaslighting
Heyooo deep conversationalists, Meg and Fran are back! This time we’re talking about self-gaslighting. This might be a new term for you, but we discover that we’ve done this almost our whole lives. We talk about what it is and how we start unlearning it and make space for ourselves. What’s your experience been like with self-gaslighting? TIMESTAMPS: (00:01:28): Glows and Grows, Melange of Vices (00:10:41): Pt. 1 of Self-Gaslighting (Link to IG post below). What is gaslighting? The signs. Meg’s past relationship w/ these signs. Do women go through gaslighting more? Is gaslighting a symptom of systemic societal issues? What is “self-gaslighting?” Invalidating our own feelings. Honoring emotions and giving ourselves space. Emotions looked at as a weakness. Product = quality vs. quantity? Devaluing grief, devaluing anxiety. Unraveling takes work, investment. Need to be made of Teflon. (00:40:12): Pt. 2: Ways to unlearn gaslighting – self-affirming phrases. My feelings are there for a reason. Amplify your affirmations. Self-limiting beliefs. Auto-suggestion. Hardwiring happiness. Our well-being as spokes on a wheel. It’s not called “work” for nothing. (01:01:37): What We’re Loving This Week: Taste the Nation, Insider “Pro Acting Coach” series (extra rec: Nic Cage flipping a shit YouTube compilation), Morgan Harper Nichols on Pinterest, Society Six; LOVE IS BLIND SIDE CONVO; Brené Brown for Quote of the Day; “a Hard 75.” Link to video of episode: https://youtu.be/Xl2yAFyv-Hk  Link to self-gaslighting IG post: https://bit.ly/2CQJDTZ Link to “New Mindset Who This” Podcast: https://bit.ly/3g0n6m5 Link to Nic Cage Flips Out Montage: https://youtu.be/S73swRzxs8Y SOCIALS:@deepconvospod @meg.sales.14 @fransales EMAIL: deepconvospodcast@gmail.com MUSIC:Intro/Outro: https://soundcloud.com/bearcitysound/substance Transitions: https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired/visions

Extra, Extra #8: "Do you Speak Asian?"
Meg is back! In this bonus episode of Deep Convos Podcast, we (randomly) talk about some questions we as Asian Americans encounter all the time (some may call them "microaggressions"...but they're all part of the same spectrum). We thought it would be funny to source these questions from the Internet...with one of them being from Yahoo! questions... Do you relate? Any we missed? Let us know! 10. "Who's The Guy Who Asked This?!"
Hi. It’s just Fran again. We’ll keep you all posted when Meg can come back. In the meantime it’s a messy, chompy, sad, hodgepodge episode, with Fran tryna get used to talking to herself and her own face on mic. The first half is Fran’s response to the previous episode (Ep. 9, “Spill the Tea") by attempting to answer the “questions guys are too afraid to ask gals” according to the Internet. The second half, also according to the Internet, are “questions that are the quickest way to get to know someone.” Well, you’re gonna get to know Fran, all right. Hit is up via DM or email if you have answers to these questions! Timestamps: (00:04:15) my week (00:06:25) “Questions men are too afraid to ask women”: Why do women go to the bathroom together? How frequently do women masturbate? Does a wedding ring on a guy stop you from flirting? Why do women always go for the bad guy? (See Pretty in Pink reference.) Do we always have to make the first move? Can we split the bill? What are your turn-ons/turn-offs? etc. (00:29:55) Impromptu Roommate Mini Rant, “Quickfire deep questions to really get to know someone according to the Internet”: Do you rehearse what you’re going to say before making a phone call? When did you last cry? What is the greatest accomplishment of your life? Etc. (00:50:25) What I’m Loving This Week: Hamilton, Love is Blind, Nice Cream; quote of the day/week; bye! Extra, Extra #7: Social Anxiety Edition
It's just Fran! Struggling with what to talk about solo, she figured she would tackle some myths about Social Anxiety Disorder, something she lives with that she's disclosed in passing in other episodes. Hopefully it leads to a full episode (with guests!) about living with SAD, treatment, and how it affects relationships/work/etc., but for now Fran reads the official definition of the disorder form DSM-5 and tackles some big myths about it (like, "is it the same as shyness?").  socials:@deepconvospod@fransales email:deepconvospodcast.com video of episode:https://youtu.be/2lsNQ87NNKM music:https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired/warm-nights  links:what is SAD? https://bit.ly/2CkDTBt

8. Rolling With Life's Punches
Heyoooo deep conversationalists, your hosts Meg and Fran are back! This time our cool uncle Steven (who also happens to be a very insightful clinical social worker) is dropping by to unpack the saying “rolling with the punches.” What does that really mean when looking at major life events and how it shaped us today? How did we manage, and continue to manage and learn from, these challenges? Dive into the deep end with us—and we hope you get something out of the convo. 00:04:40: our weeks 00:15:40: part 1: “just make lemonade out of lemons” = the worst. Meg, alcoholism, grief, and numbing. Fran and religion. (“They are going through a lot of shit.” – Steven from the sidelines.) 00:35:45: part 2: “religion is like a dick.” Steven, appearance, and weight. Taking ownership of our own experiences. 00:43:50: part 3: how did we and do we “roll with the punches”? Meg and accepting the fuck-ups. Identifying her weaknesses. Learned behavior and looking inward. Soberness and the numbing effect. Fran, freedom, and the journey of being whole. She’s not shy and small. Steven, trust, and “the old body.” Feeling his body untangle and develop. Awareness helps make conscious decisions (e.g., the thumb exercise). Wrap-up: Strategies include acceptance, embracing the journey, and mindfulness. 01:14:00: Steven’s recs: “I Love Me” by Demi Lovato; The ILLUSTRATED Happiness Trap (acceptance commitment therapy); Hardwiring Happiness (positive psychology). 01:18:00: what we’re loving this week: Return to Zero, Native deodorant, Disclosure.
